Publisher's summary

From the outside, I live a charmed life: hockey legend for a father, my own promising future in the league, a great family, awesome friends. It’s not untrue, but it’s not quite that simple either. My dad’s advice has always been to make hockey my number-one priority—at least until I make it to the pros.

So going into my senior year of college, I have a plan. I’ll put in the effort required to pass my classes, play hockey like my life depends on it, and avoid relationships. All I have to do is stay focused on the end game. It should be easy.

But when a woman literally floats into my dock, just before summer ends and my senior year begins, I can’t resist one last hookup. What harm could a one-night stand do? It’s not like we even exchanged numbers. Everything is fine until I run into her on campus. It’s a big school. I should be able to avoid her. Except she happens to be in my class. And she’s not a student. She’s my professor.

Just excellent!

The story is great - a hot, athletic, privileged guy who has a hook up that changes his life. His deep issues, concerns and secrets become apparent when he 1. has to write about a childhood memory and 2. is able to protect the teacher he is so attracted to from a bunch of drunk guys.

The characters are great. There's one conversation between an oversharing mother and son who has inherited the same trait that was hilarious. It's called the "Verbal Diarrhea match."

The story is sweet and complicated.

Loved it!

Ok read

It was a good read. Just a little slow for a bit, but the ending got better. Loved Maverick.

Student teacher romance!

When I read Little Lies I became obsessed with this world and these characters! I couldn't wait for the next installment of this series. I listened to both of these books on audio, and I highly recommend them! Maverick is spending the summer at his familial lake house and that's when he meets the heroine and they have a fling for the summer. When it comes time for the first day of his senior year he recognizes the heroine and realizes that she is his new professor. Over the course of the first semester, they start to run into each other more and more on campus, and they can't deny their attraction to each other anymore. I loved the chemistry and angst in this romance! It was so good. I also loved how protective Maverick got over the heroine once he found out that her ex was bothering her. This is also a reverse age gap! I also really enjoyed how they both had to work really hard for their relationship because it made their hea so much more satisfying! Such a good taboo, student-teacher romance! Definitely a new fav of the year!!

Maverick & Clover

I really loved Little Lies so I was excited to read Maverick story. This has age gap (she’s 8 years older), hockey romance, forbidden love where she is the professor and his the student. This isn’t my favorite in the series but I did enjoy it and the audio I highly recommend.

Sigh

I liked the story, but it was honestly for the side characters. Maverick wasn’t interesting to me… Clover wasn’t much better.
Maybe I could’ve enjoyed the story more if it wasn’t for the constant heavy sighs and loud swallows by the male narrator. It annoyed me. I’m not an ASMR person. It broke the story up for me. You’ll get a cadence then it is broken because we have to swallow…. Loudly… Andi was amazing. It’s too bad the males mouth noises drive me crazy.

Mav & Clover😍

After reading Little Lies I couldn't wait for Maverick's book. Helena did not disappoint, this book was truly amazing!! Maverick has been battling has demons since he was a child feeling guilty at what happened with has sister Lavender. He meets Clover over the summer and they connect for 1 night. However when he returns to school he finds out she is his professor. Can you say awkward? lol. These two have some ups and downs and a little soul searching. With the obstacles the 2 face can their love survive? You will have to read, or listen, to find out!!!

Lovely age-gap romance

This book is about Maverick, the son of Alex and Violet Waters. Raised in a world of hockey, he meets and hooks up with an older woman while on summer vacation from college. Once he’s back in class he realizes that she’s his professor.
She tries to rebuff him but he’s gently persistent because of the strength of their connection.

Great narrators!

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎧

I knew this was probably going to have a lot of drama because the first one in this series was full of it. But I was pleasantly surprised. This did have some of the drama but in a very different way.

Maverick has an incredible night with a woman, and they go their own way, only for that woman to surprise him and become his professor.

Clover is subbing in for a professor she did not expect to see the man she had an incredible night with.

They have to keep it professional even when it's hard.
I loved this dynamic! I liked that she was older. His mother was a peach.
It's great to listen either way.

Sweet

This book was good. Maverick is swoon worthy for sure! I also liked Clover. However, I didn’t really fall in love with their love story. Something about their romance wasn’t romantic (enough for me at least). Maybe it was because their romance was in a bubble that was carefully constructed for the most part. I’m not really sure. However, I totally understood the conflict for Clover. Maybe their relationship did at times feel out of balance also because he wasn’t about to confide in anyone while she had at least one person to confide in. 🤷🏽‍♀️. Anyways, some points that I loved:
* BJ. He was hilarious with his sleeping but I guess not fully because he somehow managed to fully pick up on conversations and other things while he looked like he was passed out in the arm chair. He was also surprisingly insightful.
* The conversation between Maverick and his parents (mainly Violet) when they find out he’s been sleeping with his professor. I could not stop laughing at Violets tangent. It was hilarious. Side note: I didn’t really care for Violet in the Pucked series, but she is really good in this series. It was also hilarious in the previous book how she set up catfish social media accounts to stalk her kids.

P.s. I wish River would get his own book. Just putting that out there.
