Publisher's summary

I did something I’ve never done.

I couldn’t help it. The man I met at the bar was too gorgeous, too fascinating, too sexy. The next thing I knew, we had a one-night stand.

Except....It turns out, he’s Denver Gilchrist, lead singer of the Road Kings, the legendary band that broke up five years ago.

How was I supposed to know I was sleeping with a genius rock god? I’m just a piano teacher who plays jazz on Thursday nights. I have a happy, single life with my cat. I don’t need Denver’s brand of chaos.

But now, I’m addicted. And so is he.

Denver is a poet, a talent, a complicated intellect, a lost soul. He can bring me to life, but he can also break me to pieces. Stories like ours don’t get happy endings - but I won’t know the end, until I risk it all.

What a *itch

I cannot stand Callie’s character; she is a real piece of work. Not sure why the female character is usually the bad person. What Denver sees in this self-absorbed woman is beyond me. Narrators did a great job with characters.

Rock stars settling down into middle age

This is a well written introduction to a series about 4 members of a rock band called the Road Kings. They had taken a 5 year break after suffering burnout from the tours but at age 37 they are each craving the music they make together and are maturing and finding themselves as adults. The first story centers around the lead singer, Denver Gillcrest, and his attraction to a very talented piano teacher, Callie, who performed weekly at various small supper clubs and bars, playing mostly jazz. Their characters are developed and some of their backstories disclosed throughout the story though it is clear at the end that Denver and Callie relationship has hit some milestones in trust and declarations but has still a ways to go for the HEA. The other band mates stories have been sketched out and foreshadowed for the future books as well. Drummer Axel and his neighbor/friend/ on tour guardian against substance abuse Britt are getting closer. Guitarist Neil is missing his daughter Amber but also her mother Raine, now a divorcee and a Realtor. Finally there is Stone, the most stubborn and serious rocker of the group who seems to particularly clash with a music journalist named Sienna. Hopefully each of their stories is equally engaging as the band’s story continues through the next 7 weeks of their reunion tour, a possible 2 week extension, and the probable work on an album upon return from the tour. Also their will definitely need to be more on Denver and Callie as readers are now invested in seeing more of a conclusion to their story.
The narration was excellent as Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke a professionals and both have the perfect voices for these characters. Well worth the credit and looking forward to the next book!

Well that definitely sucks you in

This is a story that from the beginning pulled me I couldn't stop listening. I enjoyed it I would say that I feel like it needs more or I want more let's put it that way I mean it ended good I want more more and I know there's a book two, But I believe that goes into the other band mate, And I can't wait I'd love to hear stories about all 4 band mates to be honest. And hopefully all 4 band mates get books. Both narrators, What can I say anybody who's ever listened to either of these narrators know that they are just at the top of their game they're outstanding. I think there are the ones who make the story even more though the story alone is 5 stars at least. The story is entertaining keeps you involved that's all story needs to be. I recommend.

You’ll want more

Cali and Denver find each other and hit it off in the very beginning of the story. The story takes you through how these two unlikely adults connect with each other. The story ends very abruptly leaving you wanting more and an actual conclusion. As always Andi and Jason both do a fantastic job brining the characters to life.

Swoony Rockstar Romance!

Duet by Julie Kriss is book 1 in her new Road Kings Series. Kriss delivers in this strangers to lovers rock star romance bringing all the swoon, steam, and good feels! I was mesmerized from start to finish with Callie and Denver's story, and I found myself falling in love with their journey to find their own HEA, so much that I didn't want it to end!

This audiobook is narrated by Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke. (two of my favorites) Andi Arndt captured Callie, a thirty five year old piano teacher who also plays in jazz bars at night, perfectly. In Andi's performance you could also feel Callie's hesitancy, her reluctance to trust, as she battled within herself to figured out her true feelings and love for Denver. Jason Clarke brought a broody, charismatic tone to his performance of Denver, a thirty seven year old retired rock star god, which was oh so dreamy. (There is even a touch of singing.) Denver and Callie's instant chemistry is off the charts hot and will make your heart absolutely melt!

Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook! If you love a rock star romance with a hunky rock star lead singer, a fierce talented piano teacher, a one night stand that lead to so much more, a Road Kings Reunion Tour, a nosey uninformed reporter, supportive band mates, a trip to New Orleans, more steamy times, and a HEA that will sing to your soul, then you will love Denver and Callie's romance. I am looking forward to more from Julie Kriss and the Road King Series!

A Refreshing Romance

Finally a love story that has all the feels without overdoing the sex scenes. It actually has a story of each of the characters and back characters.

Nothing can top narrators Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke and together they are dynamite. They gave life to Denver and Callie as no other narrators could do. I've listened to many romance books and the best ones actually have a storyline.

I enjoyed this book tremendously and I will go back and read it again. I'm onto book 2 and like that the other band members, friends and families are included in each of the book series. The next book can't come soon enough.

Kudo's to Julie Kriss on creating a worthwhile read. I'll be looking forward to reading more of her books. :)

Very original story and characters!

The narrators for both the male and female leads were good. Especially Andi Arndt. When the book ended, I wanted more. The story was thorough with character discriptions and quirks. Backstories were real. I felt like I really knew them. Very good.

The Road Kings are on Fire!!

This book is absolutely everything I love about live music. It’s a deliciously sweet and sultry experience - the kind of seduction that’s bone deep and playful and everything in between.

Denver and Callie are unapologetically real from their first interaction to the very last page. They’re intense is consuming and insanely hot.

‘His gaze was pure fire, taking in every inch of me. I couldn’t hide, and I didn’t want to.’

I seriously cannot express how much I loved this book. Julie Kriss has given us an unforgettable experience with the irresistible bad boys of rock. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the Road Kings!

Jason Clarke and Andi Arndt were an incredible duo and absolute perfection!

The story is good, the narrators are great as always…

I feel like the story is a great story but it kinda dragged in the middle and then it just ended as the story was getting really good. I am thinking the story of Denver and Cali will pick up in the next book? Or will the next book be about another band member? If so, then Denver and Cali’s story just stopped without any closure. I guess I’ll see in book 2.

Can't Wait!!

I'm a huge fan of Jason Clarke, so I'm hoping that Ms. Kriss uses him for the rest of the series. Also loved Andi reading the role of Cali. Can't wait for the next book in the series. :-)
