Publisher's summary

I did something I’ve never done.

I couldn’t help it. The man I met at the bar was too gorgeous, too fascinating, too sexy. The next thing I knew, we had a one-night stand.

Except....It turns out, he’s Denver Gilchrist, lead singer of the Road Kings, the legendary band that broke up five years ago.

How was I supposed to know I was sleeping with a genius rock god? I’m just a piano teacher who plays jazz on Thursday nights. I have a happy, single life with my cat. I don’t need Denver’s brand of chaos.

But now, I’m addicted. And so is he.

Denver is a poet, a talent, a complicated intellect, a lost soul. He can bring me to life, but he can also break me to pieces. Stories like ours don’t get happy endings - but I won’t know the end, until I risk it all.

Swoony Rockstar Romance!

Duet by Julie Kriss is book 1 in her new Road Kings Series. Kriss delivers in this strangers to lovers rock star romance bringing all the swoon, steam, and good feels! I was mesmerized from start to finish with Callie and Denver's story, and I found myself falling in love with their journey to find their own HEA, so much that I didn't want it to end!

This audiobook is narrated by Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke. (two of my favorites) Andi Arndt captured Callie, a thirty five year old piano teacher who also plays in jazz bars at night, perfectly. In Andi's performance you could also feel Callie's hesitancy, her reluctance to trust, as she battled within herself to figured out her true feelings and love for Denver. Jason Clarke brought a broody, charismatic tone to his performance of Denver, a thirty seven year old retired rock star god, which was oh so dreamy. (There is even a touch of singing.) Denver and Callie's instant chemistry is off the charts hot and will make your heart absolutely melt!

Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook! If you love a rock star romance with a hunky rock star lead singer, a fierce talented piano teacher, a one night stand that lead to so much more, a Road Kings Reunion Tour, a nosey uninformed reporter, supportive band mates, a trip to New Orleans, more steamy times, and a HEA that will sing to your soul, then you will love Denver and Callie's romance. I am looking forward to more from Julie Kriss and the Road King Series!

⭐️ WHAT A GREAT STORY.. & WHAT A GREAT START ⭐️

What a lovely sweet journey and definitely not your typical Rockstar romance.. Cali and Denver are two thirty-something characters who instantly click, act like adults, talk things over, speak their minds, respect each other and their feelings and have sizzling chemistry the moment they meet. Unaware of his Rock God status as lead singer of the Road Kings, piano Teacher Cali meets Denver in the Bar she sometimes plays piano in and they instantly connect on all levels and smoothly move the ’action’ back to Cali’s. And their one night together forges a connection neither one wants to walk away from. Yes, Cali soon finds out that her new boyfriend is a Rock legend however, to her he’s just Denver.. but should she risk her heart and her safe comfortable lifestyle by taking a chance on happiness? And, when the band that broke up five years ago gets an offer too good to refuse.. where does that leave their relationship?

Worth a credit? Yes definitely.. and this angst-free romance was pretty much a non-stop listen as their attraction, relationship, feelings, emotional insecurities and steps forward were deliciously brought to life by Andi and Jason (❤️u J x) whose five star narration always delivers perfection. It was a bit of an abrupt ending because I was expecting to be slowly weaned off this couple with a pacifier of an Epilogue.. however, now I’m looking forward to more from the other varied members of the Road Kings just as soon as you can Julie 😉.

that's it?

that's the epilogue, come on. i loved the book and the characters and the narrators. But i was expecting more from the epilogue. Besides that, i can't wait to listen to Neal, Stone and Shimmes story. i hope it comes out on audio. i see that the second one is on Kindle. I'll wait for the audio version. Just felt unfinished but again it was a really good story if a rock star and a piano teacher. it feels like there's should be more to the story.

Well that definitely sucks you in

This is a story that from the beginning pulled me I couldn't stop listening. I enjoyed it I would say that I feel like it needs more or I want more let's put it that way I mean it ended good I want more more and I know there's a book two, But I believe that goes into the other band mate, And I can't wait I'd love to hear stories about all 4 band mates to be honest. And hopefully all 4 band mates get books. Both narrators, What can I say anybody who's ever listened to either of these narrators know that they are just at the top of their game they're outstanding. I think there are the ones who make the story even more though the story alone is 5 stars at least. The story is entertaining keeps you involved that's all story needs to be. I recommend.

What a *itch

I cannot stand Callie’s character; she is a real piece of work. Not sure why the female character is usually the bad person. What Denver sees in this self-absorbed woman is beyond me. Narrators did a great job with characters.

A nice switch up from hardcore erotica

If you are into serious erotica, this audible book may not be for you. I liked this story because it was just a story. Some mild sex, but it was not the focus of the storyline. Andi Arndt and Jason Clark are always a pleasure for me to listen to. I liked the characters Denver and Cali. I liked how Denver was vulnerable. Cali had a few moments when she played the freaked out girlfriend after being strong (that is so trite, and so many stories use the trope. Don’t like it at all). The Road Kings seemed like they were some fun guys. It felt like the story ended somewhat abruptly. Overall, I liked the story because it has low drama. I have listened to it twice now. Cali’s mother is, well, a jerk.

Wowed by new to me author, need more!

I saw this book as a recommendation and even though I have Kindle Unlimited and could have easily read this quickly, I decide to use one of my many credits after listening to a sample of both narrators voices . I am very selective regarding narration. A great one can make the story and a terrible one can ruin it for me. In my opinion, both narrators here enhanced this beautiful romance more than I could have expected and I hated the thought of stepping away from Duet, even to sleep. The longing, the emotional connection between the characters poured out from the words I heard spoken between them. The supporting characters and Road King band members were very well done and believably portrayed by both Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke, which added to my enjoyment.

Aside from the excellent narration, the sometimes tender, often raw attraction between Denver and Cali oozed its way out of each chapter and directly into my heart. Learning to trust was a big part of their story and they both needed something more than just their music to complete them, but neither had ever found this kind of bond in anyone else the same way they now felt it with each other. An almost spiritual connection, both mental and physical were palpable between Denver and Cali.

I just loved their story, it was a refreshing take on the rockstar romance trope, still filled to the brim with what make them so addictive- music, lyrics, tours, gorgeous musicians and the wit, insight and closeness that comes when longtime friends feel like family. In the end, Denver and Cali's heartfelt love story are now permanently engraved in my heart. I can't wait to read more about them in subsequent books featuring the return of the Road Kings, somewhere in the future. This one is a definite recommend from me and I'm going to add Julie Kriss to my list of must read authors.

A Refreshing Romance

Finally a love story that has all the feels without overdoing the sex scenes. It actually has a story of each of the characters and back characters.

Nothing can top narrators Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke and together they are dynamite. They gave life to Denver and Callie as no other narrators could do. I've listened to many romance books and the best ones actually have a storyline.

I enjoyed this book tremendously and I will go back and read it again. I'm onto book 2 and like that the other band members, friends and families are included in each of the book series. The next book can't come soon enough.

Kudo's to Julie Kriss on creating a worthwhile read. I'll be looking forward to reading more of her books. :)

Absolutely fabulous ❤💖❤💖

A rock star book which stands out, not just because of the plot line, but because it is also well written with interesting, rounded, relatable characters. They are all mature, not jaded, but on different trajectories than in the past. This story has just me engaged and intrigued. Callie, with her well organised, risk averse life, and a serendipitous meeting with another deep, solitary soul. Andi Arnt and Jason Clarke are simply outstanding. Their ability to capture and deliver the nuances, emotions and communication between the main and other characters, has a thoughtfulness and warmth which creates a link with the listener, inviting them in to share in the narrative. Absolutely brilliant 👏 💖💖💖💖💖
