I wish I chose another

I am disappointed because there is no way to choose a particular book or verse in this audio-book. It is the Bible after all and chapter and verse are quite important. The background music is distracting and I've fallen asleep many times while listening, maybe over dramatization is the right format.

Good narration, distracting music

This would be one of my favorite Bible audiobooks if the music were less distracting. It's not so much that it's repetitive -- though it is, at times -- as that it's sometimes too loud.

Ronnie Meeks is a great storyteller, and the NCV is probably one of the best translations for audiobook listening; it's a translation, not a paraphrase, but it sticks to a simple vocabulary and uses straightforward syntax. It's similar in a lot of ways to the CEV or GNT versions but is (in my opinion) better than either of those.

I'm hoping that this will be made available in Audible's new enhanced format. There's a good possibility this will smooth out the clash between music and narration, as it did on Audible's version of The Bible Experience.

One note about the way music is used here. Each chapter has its own musical background. The music varies in quality (some is quite good, some mediocre); all selections are composed, or at least recorded, in a loop, so it can play through the whole chapter regardless of how long the chapter is. The music usually fits the mood of the beginning of the chapter, though sometimes, if there are abrupt transitions within a chapter, it doesn't always fit by the end. Still, I find that having the music helps in listening. If the volume-control issues get resolved, so much the better.

NCV OT AND NT

this is not what I thought it would be. There is not separation of the books and therefore you cannot choose one to listen to at random.

Why the music?

Would you try another book from the author and/or Ronnie Meek?

I think he did a good job of reading, but the music was very distracting. I wish I had not purchased this book. In fact, if I can return it I will.

Of course the story is good. It's the Bible after all.

The format left it hard to find a particular book or passage. Guess I'm too old to try this.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

As a first timer to audiobooks bible, I loved it

Nicely done; music in the background; Comes in as 7 part series. You can make a guess which chapter you want to go. But you can bookmark it. Narration was good.

Don't purchase anything from Audible.com

Audible.com will take your money and you will get nothing in return. Audible.com is a dishonest business. I'm not happy that I bought this from Audible. It won't download. Bad company.

Disappointed with suggestions

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

There should be a menu with each book listed, with chapter and verse. Also there should be the printed text of the verses as they are read. This way I can pick what I want to hear from the menu and be able to view the verses as they are being read. This way a person will comprehend more of the passage.

What other book might you compare NCV Audio Bible to and why?

There are many apps available that do what I suggested above.

What didn’t you like about Ronnie Meek’s performance?

His performance was good but the music could be lowered some.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed that the index was not good.

Any additional comments?

Easy Listening

I like this translation of the bible. The narrator makes this translation easy to listen to. The music in the background at times is surprisingly NOT annoying, but complimentary.

Not my favourite version

If you like this version then this is a good resource. However, it was not for me. Again, there are difficulties in locating specific Books / Chapters. Good for listening in Biblical order though.
