Publisher's summary

Asperger's Syndrome, or high-functioning autism, is a form of autism that falls on the autism spectrum. Asperger's Syndrome can be seen in adults and in children if you know what to look for. Many people who can be described as hypersensitive, odd or eccentric have Asperger's Syndrome which has gone undiagnosed. Some of the greatest comedians, singers, actors and inventors have Asperger's syndrome. They specialize in what they are good at, and they can become highly successful in doing so.

In this book, we will discuss the different overt and covert traits that can be seen in those with Asperger's Syndrome in its list form. If you feel that you or someone you know has Asperger's, it is essential to have the diagnosis confirmed so that the Asperger's person can seek help in learning the skills that are essential to making them more successful in their ambitions.

Asperger's Syndrome children and adults have an underdeveloped brain on MRI scans. They lack the brain development in certain areas that help them to keep up with their peers. They may be advanced in specialty areas, but they may lag behind their peers in normal development of other areas. Their nervous system and their emotions are often sensitive. They often feel alienated from their peers, as though they do not fit in. Asperger's can cause depression, and possibly even suicide, if it not recognized early.

Very Helpful

What did you love best about 56 Traits of Aspergers Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, and Autism Spectrum Disorders?

I found that the descriptions or personality traits of children and adults very helpful in identifying the "whys" of how certain people act.

What does Mike Norgaard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It was calm and easy to listen to. And, I could do a couple of other things while he was narrating. Multi tasking...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

Just A List

This is not really a book so much as a list.
I didn't notice it was only 20 mins long when I ordered, it is not worth one credit.

Disappointed

As a person with Aspergers & a mom of a son with it, this book was rather disturbing. I believe that some of the traits listed were bogus. l agreed with maybe half of the traits listed in this book. Very disappointed. I hope others don’t use this as a reference.

To The Point

Enjoyable in that the book actually bulleted important facets of childhood asperger's syndrome. However, it did not address adult Asperger's in this particular book.

Aspies

Short and really see no need for it as Aspergers needs thorough explanation for folks to grasp this disease or condition.

My Husband Whom I Love Dearly

It took me a long-long time to understand that my "Husband" has highly functional autism....I saw earlier traits and just thought that it was because he was an only child and brought up in a well to do family....I ev en thought maybe it was because he was a lock key kid....basically raised by like male friends as a child throughout most of his life!... :( But I was able to understand that yes I was close but that it was more than his environment for his development as a child it was that he was born this way....especially when I saw some of the same traits in his close family members. And my general practitioner and phycologist also helped....a lot.... :)
