Story
Most people only ever rely on their conventional intelligence (IQ) to get them through life, or worse, believe it to be the best indicator for success. For years this was thought to be the case, that IQ was the most accurate predictor of a person's potential, whether it's getting a leg up in your career or simply building better relationships in business/family life. However that is no longer the case. It's now commonly known that Emotional Intelligence (EQ) has the biggest impact here.

Misleading
There is a saying - “If you have met a person with autism, you have met one person with autism”
This book has some good general information however I found it to be very misleading to those seeking information about themselves or other adults who are on the spectrum or looking into an ASD evaluation.
This book specifically touches on one person who’s experience was fairly simple, and didn’t need much professional intervention. What it does not do is touch on the fact that these methods may work for some, but most likely will not for the vast majority of people with ASD.
Whether you’re looking to get answers for yourself or someone else, be sure to look into other authors and experts on this subject in conjunction to this book, so you can be sure to have the most beneficial information for your situation.

Good information, difficult to hear
This is a fair top-level overview, although like most resources for autistic adults, much of the cited research has to do with autistic children. It can be helpful, but I was hoping for more adult resources. Also, some things didn't translate well from text to speech for me, such as the phrase, "we'll get to that." I thought the narrator's voice was very soft and their s's sounded like f's. I found that trying to follow their diction was distracting from the content.

This is a great listen for adults who are either questioning about themselves possibly being autistic or if they have been diagnosed and are researching the basic details of their diagnosis. Great information. And although I prefer to listen to books at 1.4 speed, It was intelligable and easy to listen to the narration.

The start is surprisingly patronising
The book ends better than it starts. But overall there's a lot about stigma of autism which I have been blessed to not expense, so it felt irrelevant to me. The author repeatedly explains how supportive her parents were and how she overcame her challenges using neuroplasticity. Maybe it is helpful for someone.

A good reminder to check the runtime
This is basically a pamphlet that provides very little benefit. The message here is:
'there is nothing wrong with you'
A good message to be sure. But I was hoping to read practical tips on how to manage the communication difficulties associated with autism. As an adult, it's hard to find tips that are reasonable for someone to implement. A personal perspective on how to deal would be good. This wasn't it.
The universal message in this area seems to be an expectation that adults who have gone undiagnosed too long have found a way around this. In reality it's not that simple and you often don't realize how you seem to people who are too polite to call you out. This causes social issues you may not be able to identify.
I don't really like leaving a negative review on something that seems pretty personal, but there's just nothing here I see that would benefit another person. It seems more like the author working through things for their own benefit. Which is fine. But not worth the credit.
