Better sleep

I had not heard of the vagus nerve before coming across this guide. I've been sheltering in place since April 22, and my sleep schedule is none existent. However, I am returning to work in less than 2 weeks, so I've got to get back on track. I'm hoping the techniques I found in this audiobook will help. Its a clear and easy guide.

Interesting nuggets of information

Fascinating practical application of Porges' Polyvagal theory and how regulation of the cranial nerves can impact us in surprising ways.

A very useful update of the understanding of the stress response and related states. Stress & relaxation are insufficient descriptors on their own and the polyvagal theory offers a much more rounded understanding: adding mobilised with and without fear, and immobilised with and without fear - allowing for greater understanding and potential treatment of these states.

The author's self-help exercises and treatment techniques are adapted from craniosacral therapy and osteopathy and surprisingly effective for being so minimal - proving in and of themselves that the point is to activate the body to fix itself rather than apply a fix to it.

Something to definitely keep in mind and work at.

I have so many health issues outlined in this audiobook and I never would have thought to attribute it to this nerve. It's crazy how much it controls and how important it is to stimulate the nerve to keep your overall health up. It's not even doing hard things, but things that are easy to incorporate into your daily routine. The guide did a great job outlining the impact of this nerve and how it relates to common health problems (think: depression, anxiety, frequent headaches, migraines, etc) and laid it all out. Then transitions to things you can and should be doing to help the nerve, or work it out. Something to definitely keep in mind and work at.
