Acerca de esta escucha
Most people think of retirement as taking an extended vacation. In fact, it’s more like running a marathon. But all too often, people only realize that after they start running.
Fortunately, with a little planning, you’ll be able to run that marathon easily — as long as you need to — for a happy, successful retirement.
In How to Retire and Not Die, Gary and Max Sirak walk you step by step through the process of winning that marathon and living your best retired life. Embark on a guided journey of self-discovery and learn to identify your Likes, Loves, and Hates. Understand what you truly need to be happy, and create a clear Plan for meeting those needs.
Create your ideal WishList, learn about the two pillars of successful retirement, and build the custom retirement plan that’s right for you. With a little patience and practice, you’ll be enjoying the retirement of your dreams.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

What does it take to have a truly happy retirement? Is it money? An active social life? A long-lasting marriage - or maybe a new one? Finance expert, author, and radio host Wes Moss asked more than 2,000 of the nation's happiest retirees to find out - and their answers may surprise you. Through a series of revealing surveys, Moss noticed a pattern of distinct, recognizable habits that the happiest retirees shared, from the simplest of lifestyle choices to the smartest of financial strategies.

Originally written to get the attention of baby boomers, Mitch ended up starting a revolution by showing us that everything we had learned about retirement was wrong—we needed a "new retirementality."

The crisis of unfulfilled lives unfolds gradually, often with acquiesced boredom and a flimsy search for purpose. Our relevancy comes into question, or we succumb to the idea that the future will be one of slow-moving ambition and then an even slower glide into comfort as the flush of freedom fades. We can change this outcome if we want to. We should want to. The 60-Something Crisis: How to Live an Extraordinary Life in Retirement is the first book to circumvent the tired approaches of finding purpose, or using reinvention to discover a path of fulfillment after sixty.

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Great advise delivered with wit and humor
My husband and I enjoyed listening to Gary’s retirement advise during a long road trip to visit family. His life experiences and practical exercises helped us look at retirement with a new perspective. I’ve recommended this book to several friends and colleagues. Everyone agreed the book was entertaining and thought provoking. Much better than listening to retirement advise that focuses only on financial planning. We’re in our early 60’s with plans to retire in a couple of years so this is a perfect time for us to begin making our lists as Gary instructs.

First part of book was strong. The second part not so much.
The three Ps are golden. The constant stories get a little corny after a while. There is a lack of research and a too heavy reliance on the author’s own experiences and biases.

Good read, good inspiration to get my plan done
A few glitches in the audio but not bad. I so needed this. I wish Gary had some PDFs to help build my plan

Thanks for pulling me back from the brink!
I came into retirement like Bruno, minus the riches. It’s still a work in progress with your help, I may make it. Thank you!

Fun book for planning retirment
Not a financial book but a book on how to plan day to day retirement once you get there. Being somebody that has a lot of hobbies I thought I was prepared for this. After listening to this book I realize that I will need to plan a little to make all my wants and desires in retirement work.
Loved the enthusiastic and easy to listen to style of this author.

Not just a one time read!
I’ve read this book twice now and have used it more like a reference guide going into my third read! Sound advice, relevant stories and examples and good humored. Definitely helping me to my retirement marathon!
