Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Emily McIntire comes an angsty best-friend's-brother second-chance romance and the second interconnected stand-alone in the Sugarlake series.

Elliot Carson left Sugarlake and has never looked back. Revered as the next big thing in basketball, Eli’s a star until an injury ends his career, sending him spiraling with no direction.

But he won’t go home.

He can’t.

Instead, he accepts a coaching gig at Florida Coast University, determined to leave his past behind. But fate has other plans when Becca, his sister’s best friend, shows up as a student and, even worse, becomes the new team manager.

Rebecca Sanger is the preacher’s daughter and the town's disappointment. When she ignores her family’s demands to come home, she’s cut off and needs a job so she can stay enrolled at FCU. She thought she had everything figured out, until Eli Carson—the person she hates more than anything in the world—ends up being her new boss.

Forced together, Becca and Eli’s hatred turns to heat, and they start an affair. But disaster quickly strikes, ripping them apart.

Years pass, and Becca’s back home, under her parent’s thumb, and living a mundane life. When Eli shows up out of the blue with a fiancée in tow, Becca is tasked with planning their wedding.

There’s only one problem.

Becca still loves Eli.

And he hates her.

For the second time in their lives, they’re forced together, and they’ll find out just how thin the line is between hate... and a love that lasts a lifetime.

Beneath the Stands is the second interconnected stand-alone in the Sugarlake series. It can be listened to alone, but it's recommended to start with Beneath the Stars for a full experience. Beneath the Stands contains mature content. Listener discretion is advised. Full list of TW can be found on author's website.

LOVE Becca... but not a big fan of Eli

Man this Sugar Lake series has got me feeling it all! I totally went into this book not liking Eli AT ALL! From that last book where he was a side character (but not a whole lot since he really didn't spend much time with his family) he made himself really unlikable to me. But given what I had learned about him and Becca in the book I really needed to know what happened with them.... so here I am.

The characters in this series are very FRUSTRATINGLY real! They could very much be your next door neighbors! Dealing with the same type of real life issues that we all see on a daily basis. So the stories have hit me in the gut. I kept listening, hoping that Eli would do or say something to make me like him..... and it was not there. Even when in his own POV the way that he looked at things, reacted to situations and things he said had me grinding my teeth. It literally was not until the last couple of chapters that I was in a place where I was ok with him. I never really got to like him. Honestly the only thing I really liked about him was Becca. How he was toward her (eventually) was what had me not wanting to cut him off all together! But I do think that he has potential to get better, which I am sure I will get to see a bit more of in the following stories.

Becca really only made me mad with her not wanting to tell Alina about her relationship with Eli. I understood her reasoning at first. But then to keep it from her when she was asking point blank, that was when I got mad about it. I am a huge fan of this book and I can not wait to get to the next one! The narration again took some getting used to (for me since I don't hear a lot of duet narration), but all the feelings were there and I was totally emersed in the story.

Second Chances

The second book in the Sugarlake Series.

A great story of lost love and second chances. Eli and Becca have known each other for years. Becca and Eli meet up again when she attends the same college in Florida where Eli is a basketball coach. Taking a job with the team and knowing nothing about basketball, Eli is given the task of teaching Becca all she needs to know about the sport. Spending so much time together, brings out hidden feelings that they need to keep quiet until she graduates. When that day comes, Eli can't wait to go public with their relationship until her parents show up and change everything for them.

Years later, Eli returns to his hometown with a fiancé and being the preachers daughter, Becca is tasked with helping them plan their wedding. Will Eli and Becca come clean with the people in their lives about their feelings for one another or will their stubbornness keep them from a HEA.

becca and Eli

Emily McIntyre gets deep into the souls of the characters. Not just the main characters, the secondary characters too. Their secrets , lies, twists, broken trusts, the intensity. There's a lot going on and the author brilliantly weaves the underlying themes throughout this very well written, emotional story.
Sarah Puckett and Theo Sinclair are wonderful narrators and portraying all the emotions, love, angst and feelings of despair to each and every Character.

Good

It started off so good the characters were great together then it started to sound a lot like the first book. Also I've come to find that it really drives me nuts when all the drama could be avoided if people would just communicate with each other! so I think others would enjoy more then I did because of that. The narrators did a great job I really liked both of them

so good

Sarah Puckett and Theo Sinclair did such a wonderful job telling this story and went above and beyond to make you feel like you where a apart of the story and they Brought the characters to life and I could not stop listening to this book.
“Lovin’ someone fully doesn’t mean you aren’t afraid. It just means you do it anyway, even with the fear, because they deserve all your pieces.”

I was so excited to read ‘Beneath the Stands’ because of the trope alone. Enemies-to-lovers is hands down my favorite. Well, let me tell you, Emily McIntire killed it with this one. The sass, the steam, and the angst had me up all night. I couldn’t put it down!

Eli is my new favorite book boyfriend!! There wasn’t a single thing that I disliked about his character. He had no will power when it came to Becca, and man was it hot!! Aside from that, I loved his back story and his POV. Diving into his grief was gripping, especially after already knowing Lee’s side. There’s always two sides to every story!

Becca was saucy and bold when it came to Eli and her friends. I adored her. As much as I hated her parents they were the perfect addition for her character development. I was living for that drama! Her character had so much growth and when she finally rises up you can’t help but smile.

Eli and Becca’s chemistry was insane!! Their story was laced with grief and beauty. ‘Beneath the Stands’ is definitely one of the best enemies-to-lovers romance books I’ve read. If this is a trope that you love and you haven’t read it yet, do it! You won’t be disappointed.

Forbidden love amazingness!

Forbidden love has always fascinated me and Emily just brought me my new favorite story! Ahhhhh! Eli and Becca are fire and gasoline and I am here for it. Their banter is epic. I absolutely love Becca's fire and Eli is so... I don't know... straightforward and dominating, yet a puddle of mush for Becca. That's the only way I can think to word it but even that isn't enough. They are the grand finale at a fireworks show!

Eli and Becca grew up together, hated each other. Becca is Alina's best friend so she's always been off limits to Eli. Then they get stuck working together and they realize that there may just be something between them. Something epic and extremely rare. They get each other in a way that no one has before. They get why neither one of them want to go home to Tennessee and the ghosts that drive them away from their families.

But, life happens and they end up having to go home and face their demons head on. It's an ugly, beautiful thing watching them grow together and apart. I can't get enough of their story.

Didn’t love or hate it

This was not a bad listen. I didn’t love or hate it. It was difficult to connect with the H or h since they didn’t have a relationship except that they grew up together. I wrote this review when I had less one hour before it was over. The H and h were still not together. When they were together, it was only sex. This author is new to me and I would give another of her story a try, maybe. I enjoyed the performance more than the story. Don’t take my word for it. Listen for yourself.

Loved it!

This was my 2nd book for Emily Mclntire and although it was the complete opposite of the spectrum of her other book I read it wasn't any less amazing. and THAT is how you know you've discovered an amazing author! This book was heartfelt with a dash of heartbreak all wrapped up in a nice little bow. The narrators we freaking perfect! They really brought the story to life!

Great Entertaining Story

***Audio Review***

Beneath the Stands is book 2 in the SugarLake Series by Emily McIntyre and my favorite so far! This is Eli and Becca’s story!!

A small town, second chance romance, best friend’s brother romance, this story brings steam and an enjoyable storyline.

Dual narration gives this story an extra depth level. Sarah Puckett and Theo Sinclair did amazing with getting these characters across along with their emotions.

5 stars!!
