Publisher's summary

The pumps fail. The walls break. The city drowns.

The Alt Apocalypse is the newest groundbreaking series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every audiobook dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse: a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

Different heroes will emerge in each novel. Different characters will survive and perish. Your favorite character dies in one audiobook? He or she will be back in the next. In the end, you'll unwind the loose thread that connects every character and every stand-alone story.

In Torrent, Abrahams plunges his characters into an unforgiving flood. College students on vacation, a family trapped and unable to swim, a journalist out of his depth, and a doctor prepared but overwhelmed all face the rising water. The beginnings of a conspiracy begin to surface, possibly connecting strangers and their roles in catastrophes they only vaguely recall.

Some live. Some die. All struggle.

Nailbiter!

I love the idea for this series where each seperate book is a different apocalyptic scenario. In this story a massive flood puts the characters into a very wet situation. At times the outcome looks bleak then a character rises up and becomes a hero of sorts. In some situations the characters find the strength to overcome and survive. Its a fast paced story filled with suspense.

The writing has solid and reached into the human soul. What people really might be thinking or feeling. The descriptions were enough for me to envision the situations and feel like I was there yet they weren't so much they took away from the story. Well written, well narrated. The only thing that didn't grasp me was this happening in New Orleans. Maybe because that already happened and its an obvious mark. Its was a fantastic listen either way and I highley reccomend it for anyone who loves disasters, suspense and characters that will return in another scenario!

Strong premise

this is the third book in the series, but i was told i could read it in any order. Every book has an apocalypse situation and is different for each one. I thought the series was very strong and would probably continue and read from the first one.

FLOODS

Absolutely love this series as it is different takes on post-apocalyptic/dystopian stories and no zombies with some of the same characters in 1St ash and radiation 2nd burning inferno 3rd Floods, Rain,( nonstop hurricanes). Loved the characters of Dr Steven Konkly, Keri, and Dub Daniel and Maggie make appearance , love to see the people helping out each other. Cannot wait for next book Affliction, keep them coming. I also recommend the author’s Travelers series. Recommend to anyone who likes post-apocalyptic/dystopian with great narration. Easter Eggs Maybe?

Wow, what a story! You can put yourself in this situation easily. This book gives hints that something is afoot in a parallel universe, matrix kind of way. That is the best way I can describe it. Tom Abrahams keeps you on your toes.

Interesting premise

This is the first alt apocalypse book I’ve read and I am very interested to see how all these books tie together. I like the idea of using the same characters just in different situations in each book, leaves more time for action over character development which has already been done for the most part.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

This was all to real for way to many people.

The Alt Apocalypse Series has an interesting premise, but I am beginning to think their is more to it than completely separate stories as presented.
This is the first book I have read/listened to in this series. I have read another book by Tom Abrahams and it was good enough to make me interested in this series.
This book was well written and as usual their is no better narrator for this genre than Kevin Pierce.
This book felt more real than other books I have read in this genre mostly because it has already happened in real life. That being said... If you still have nightmares about Katrina stay away from this story. It was way to real for me and I was not there to be fighting those memories.
I did have one issue with the story. The end was very abrupt. Stand alone stories generally do not have cliffhanger endings or characters in them that have nothing to do with the story at hand. The extra character's in this story are what makes me think this series is more than just a set of stand alone stories. We will see.

Best book of the series

Ash was okay, the fire book I couldn’t finish, but this was a good book. I really like where it’s going and maybe this should have been book #1. This has the end of the world and dark matter by Blake crouch mixed together to make one interesting read. Really excited to see where the next one goes with the cause and effect.

all to real.

Pros, How does a writer write 6 and half hours about a flood and keep it from getting dull or boring? No clue, but he some how did it.. Listening to this book, time flew by- fast.
Keven P did an stellar job as always!

Cons... there was one story line that took place in L.A. that I could not figure out how it fit in..

Another good chapter

This is the fifth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to pretty much anything he writes. I enjoy his style and the way he writes realistic scenarios. They are not complicated or overly convoluted stories. This book is not either. They are localized apocalypses. I love how the characters are repeating in this series, yet their scenario, success and outcome varies.

This is the eighth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Kevin Pierce ). He is this series, this genre. He does so well narrating this (and others by Tom Abraham’s) that I look for his name when I’m offered new books to listen to. His character voices are distinct and narration style brings out the trials the characters face.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

Great Halloween collection; Scary!

Alright I admit it. This book scared me; it takes some of the most terrifying things imaginable and puts them in a set of short stories. From drowning through an airplane crash and all sorts of other terrible things

I will go over one story briefly to give you a taste of it without spoiling the rest. Have you ever been on an airplane and there is a great deal of turbulence and you wonder if it is getting a bit too rough? Well extrapolate that - a lot rougher; and the lights start to flicker. Yikes!

Now imagine a whole series of mini books like that all put together in one volume; It is hard to pick out a favorite since they all will scare you.

Older pubescent and adolescents it would be okay to let them listen to it but young children under the age of 12 in my opinion it might give them nightmares. It is that scary of a book

I was given this book by the author to review The book did it's job it scared me LOL
