Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author K. Bromberg comes a stand-alone contemporary romance about trusting fate and finding yourself again.

Jack Sutton was the man I didn’t want to need.

His know-it-all attitude. His annoying suggestions. His outlook on life.

He was determined to help me while I had resolved to figure it out on my own.

But he taught me things I’d forgotten.

How to trust. How to believe in myself. Who I was

The problem?

I went and fell in love with him.

---

Tatum Knox was the disaster I should have walked away from.

Her ruined reputation. Her failing business. Her chaotic life.

She hated me at first sight and yet intrigued me all at the same time.

I was only supposed to be there six months.

I was supposed to use that time to make amends for things I’d done wrong.

Instead I fell in love with her.

---

They say it’s better to have loved and lost, than not to have loved at all. Does that hold true when the love is based on a lie to begin with?

Then You Happened is a stand-alone enemies to lovers, small-town romance. Full-length at 107,000 words.

5 ⭐️.. A PROMISE, A PASSION & A PLACE TO BELONG

When I start a new KB book I settle back and relax because I know that the journey she’s about to take me on will be good, will have intense multi-layered characters, will be filled with feels and will have sizzling chemistry too.. and Jack and Tatum’s story didn’t disappoint. A woman isolated, bent but not broken struggling to keep the horse breeding ranch her dead husband had gambled into debt a year earlier, robbing Peter to pay Paul, hated by her small town residents, lied about and lied to, alone, desperate, strong-willed.. and needs a miracle. Well, that miracle happens when a stranger tries to step-in and help with a six month life-line to try to do the impossible.. turn her failing ranch around.. but the jaded disbelieving woman takes some convincing. Then, when Jack’s hired, the manoeuvring around each other starts along with the letting go of walls, boundaries and fears, the slaying of enemies and rumours, the building-up of the horse breeding business, the slow clarity to finally see the picture perfect lifestyle they could have and the love and respect earned and given sets a solid foundation. But there’s a deadline approaching, a commitment pulling Jack elsewhere and he’s got secrets.. big secrets.. secrets that’ll devastate and destroy those solid foundations until there’s nothing left but the rubble of two broken hearts.

This was a very entertaining story.. with its initial conflicts, it’s slow climb as friction ebbs and lust steps in, with its passion, chemistry, sex, tantalizing secrets and it’s character development as two people who’d once broken ties with their families to ‘go it alone’ learn to trust one-another and learn that they never want to be alone again. It’s a dual POV story with a HEA ending and a sweet well-deserved Epilogue - and the narration by Grace and Brian brought its chapters and it’s characters to life.

Worth a credit? Yes absolutely.. a sssexy mysterious cowboy with a secret and a strong proud widow who’s been there done that with secrets and has her shattered heart and tattered dreams to prove it and, in Ms Bromberg’s safe hands, she guides the pair through muddy waters and turbulent skies into fresh dreams and new beginnings.

So Worth It

So, at the end of the book K. Bromberg said she struggled with this book, to find her creativity. I just want to say thank you for writing this book. It's a great love story, simple but rock solid. I love strong female characters. I compare all of Ms. Bromberg's book to her Drive series and, I mean this as the best compliment ever, but nothing compares to that series. The narrators of this book were GREAT. I'm not sure if I've ever listened to Brian Pallino before but I have added him to my "preferred" list. Sometimes, as I'm listening to a book I'm following along in my Kindle and I would have really miss some emphasis if it were not for the narrators. Great job. Worth a credit? Absolutely.

Loved Jack and Tatum

I haven’t read many books by this author but each time I do I’m reminded of how real the characters are, how easy they are to connect with. Jack and Tatum are no exception. Their connection pulls you in, lights them up and makes for amazing camaraderie, foreplay and passion. The fights are sexual tension and self preservation, but they are inevitable and it was beautiful. The last chapters broke my heart and made me hate a man so selfish he broke not one but two people. Will? Great supporting character the last few chapters.

Great cowboy romance!

This was a great story written by a favorite Author with excellent performances by Grace Grant and Brian Pallino. The story was well written with interesting characters. Very stubborn characters, but it fits them perfectly. Some people are just so very reluctant to accept help they can't get out of their own way. Still others can get convinced they aren't worthy of love or worthy of another person. It can be frustrating as a reader, but it just shows you are invested in the story and the characters. I would recommend this audiobook!

Then You Happened

I loved how Tate was able to pull herself up and overcome all she had gone through. I felt that it was a well written and interesting book
This book is for someone who is looking for a book that you want to cheer for someone and wipe a few tears along the way also.

Beautifully written

I'm not sure I can adequately put into words how much I adored this story. I was a bit taken aback by how standoffish Tatum was at first, but as her backstory unfolded, it was easy to see how she came to be so distrustful. Her growth and transformation was beautiful, and I could not be happier with the way things worked out.

Good story but overly drawn out

An emotional, overly long romance between a couple emerging from tragic pasts involving their separate impetuous behaviors in their early 20’s, that place them a few years later in each other’s paths. Their story involves saving a horse ranch while coping with grief, anger, and self esteem. The dialogue drags in several places but the story develops into a hot, steamy story set in a small, somewhat backward town in Texas hill country. The narration is well done but sadly this is one of the last stories narrated by the late Brian Pallino.

Highly enjoyable!

I didn’t even realize how glued I became to this story! From the very beginning, it sucked me in, and at every turn, I became more invested in these characters! I loved both Jack and Tatum. I also have to give some special credit to Fiona and Will, one for lightening up the story, and the other for tugging on my heartstrings!
It was obvious that Jack was keeping secrets. I just had no idea of what it would be. Maybe I missed something, but it really threw me for a loop (in a good way.)
The narrators were excellent and made this a pleasure to listen to!

Time fades all scars. Even the ones we can't see.

This book was intense. These two couldn't decide if their connection was hot or cold.

"Then why do you always call me Knox?"
"Because it reminds me that you're another man's."

Honestly there was something about these two that just really worked for me. Horses, stubborn widows and hot ranchers... what's not to love?
Tate's had a terrible time since she left home in the name of love with her now-dead husband and the strength in her was brought to life by Grace Grants amazing performance. Brian Pallino as Jack Sutton was the perfect combination with K Bromberg's story. Jack shows up to take up the head rancher position on Tate's failing property and he's anything but friendly but determined to keep a promise to his old man.

Soon, he falls for the beautiful widow.

"Like a jackass, I just stand there and stare at her. At Tate. At the woman I want but have known since day one that I should walk away from."

He can't help it though, and things get more complicated when she returns his feelings but the impact of the secrets Jack has been keeping could destroy the happiness they have found. It was a twist I hadn't seen coming.

Romantic story with unusual twists

An emotional story which had Tate a widow and ranch manager Jack, working out trust issues when trying to save a horse ranch. But both holding back important information which could destroy their developing relationship. I really enjoyed this story and the narrators did an excellent job in making it come to life. This is the second book I've read from this author and I'm looking forward to the next one.
