Publisher's summary

A spicy, only-one-bed Formula 1 romance from New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg.

Surely this can’t be the only solution to overhaul my tarnished rep—faking a romance with the good girl intern?

But that’s what my agent says. Just a few months of taming my ways—of shedding Formula 1’s party boy image—will land me a lifetime branding deal. One I desperately need.

The key condition?

Pretend I’m madly in love with my new girlfriend. The quiet wallflower who I figured wouldn’t put me in my place. Yeah. This girl is anything but that.

Maddix Hart is defiant and intelligent. Loyal and real. Determined and sexy. And damn it to hell, before I know it, she’s in my head, in our bed . . . and if I’m not careful, she’ll see there’s more to me than the man I show the public. She’ll discover the man I hide from the world. The one who struggles to live up to the unrealistic expectations that should never have been mine.

All I have to do is make sure no one sees the truth behind our farce.

But instead, I let my heart get involved. I begin to believe the lie. And now with everything on the line—the deal, a championship, us—am I willing to risk it all to make her see what the rest of the world believes? That we belong together.

Fake dating in the Formula 1 world

I really like this series and that the world is interconnected but able to be read/listened to as a stand alone. Cruz is a Formula 1 race car driver who needs to show that he's dependable and part of a couple to get an endorsement contract. Maddix is chosen as one of the choices for Cruz to choose from. He decides on Maddix since she's a regular person. They have an attraction that turns to love even though he won't admit it. When the board votes to give him the contract, Maddix can leave Cruz has hangups from his family and can't ask her to stay. Will he decide to overcome his problems and will it be too late? I loved Kit Swann and Robert Hatchet's narration and especially Robert's accents. I'm looking forward to another book in this series.

An Absolutely Wonderful Romance & Narration🎧

It is great to be back in K. Bromberg’s exciting Formula 1 racing world again for another amazing and smoking hot sports romance novel. This book is Cruz Navarro and Maddox Hart story, a story that not only captivated my attention the entire time, but tugged on my heartstrings too. Cruz has racing in his blood, his father raced before him and you would think he would be his biggest supporter, instead he is his toughest critic and not in a good way. Cruz is going to make a name for himself in the circuit and racing world, but he also made a name for himself as the bad boy party goer. His agent is working on some sponsor deals that would set him up for life, except the sponsors are hesitant to sign him because of his reputation. They present him with an ultimatum to clean up his image, and his bad-boy ways, and show the world he is settling down. Maddox Hart was looking to advance her marketing career, heard about the new client they were signing up, and wanted in on the meeting. Her boss allowed her to sit in, telling her to set up the meeting room, while up there she saw someone on the verge of a panic attack and she talked him down. Not having any knowledge of the Formula 1 race world, she had not known that person was Cruz and the client they were signing on. She also did not know what her boss was planning. Cruz was adamant about signing, wanting his independence from his father and to be set for life financially, so he agreed to go with their new plan, except for one thing. He was not picking his fake girlfriend from the choices they were ready to present. He pointed to Maddix and chose her instead. Maddix’s boss convinced her to go with the plan, that it would further her career, but she had no idea what she was getting into and neither did Cruz. K. Bromberg puts a unique spin on the fake relationship trope, I loved the complexity of the characters and how everything played out, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. This story is entertaining and has the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. K. Bromberg, thank you for another brilliant story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧And for the wonderful narration, Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann are the perfect cast to bring these characters to life.Their did an amazing job portraying the characters, and I loved how they took each role, ran with it and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the character would sound. Hatchet nailed it as Cruz, grasping his every aspect of his personality, from his arrogance to his insecurities, and all in between. Swann’s Maddox was spot on, she too grasped every aspect of her personality, her strength and determination, her wit and her caring heart. Both were fantastic performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and had you feeling each one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and their narration elevates this already brilliant story to another level. Thank you for another amazing listen.

2024 Favorite!

On The Edge by K. Bromberg
Narrated by Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann
Contemporary F1 Racing Romance. Book 2 in a series but easily stands alone.
I was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

On The Edge is the second in K. Bromberg’s Full Throttle Series but it completely stands alone. In fact, if there was any crossover from Off The Grid I didn’t even catch it. So have no fear if you just want to jump right into this one, because YOU NEED TO. Full disclosure, I am an F1 Girlie, it’s the only sport I watch. It’s also the wealthiest, sexiest, and fastest sport in the world, so it’s always surprised me that there weren’t more F1 books. It seems that will be changing this year, but I can’t imagine one better than On The Edge by K. Bromberg. (I will have a list of all the F1 romances I can find next week).

You absolutely do NOT need to know anything about F1 to love this book. Kristy did a great job of introducing any newbie to the sport without it seeming like she was teaching. But just an FYI: there are only 20 drivers from around the world that are in F1, and their contracts range from 1 million to 55 million per year not including huge sponsorship deals. And most of them are also HOT!

Cruz Navarro is one of the top racers on one of the top teams. His grandfather was an F1 legend, his father was an F1 racer, and it’s up to Cruz to bring back the family glory. His family life looks good for the cameras but behind the scenes, it’s toxic as hell, so he blows off steam by partying and being a playboy. As he’s about to sign a huge branding deal, the company throws a wrench in the plan—no deal until he cleans up his act. And to do that, he needs a steady girlfriend.

"What are you willing to sacrifice to get to the next step?"

They have a list for him to choose from, but he chooses the “wallflower”—the intern sitting against the wall in her first big branding meeting. Maddix Hart is down-to-earth, has a wonderful family, and has lived a sheltered life. She is promised a promotion if she goes along with the ruse, and why not? She will get to travel the world in private jets! Maddix knew nothing about F1 and had no idea what she was really in for—especially since paparazzi often bribes hotel staff so they have to make it look REALLY real by sharing a bed!

"If we're going to fake it, is it so bad if we enjoy it while we do?"

On The Edge by K. Bromberg had a perfect balance between the sport and the romance. The racing scenes were exciting but Kristy found ways to weave the romance through those scenes as well. Cruz is from Spain (check out Carlos Sainz when he was at Mclaren for my vision), and he comes from a very prestigious Spanish family and the family scenes were emotional and added so much to the story. The story is similar to the real-life story of Jos Verstappen, Max Verstappen’s (the current world champion) father who was known to abuse him to make him a better racer. So it felt very realistic.

“She’s the only high I’ve ever chased that’s stronger than the track, and I’m not sure what to do about that.”

Likes:
•I loved Maddix.
•All of the traveling around the world.
•Maddix’s family.
•It stood alone without any problems, I didn't even catch if there was crossover.
•Flawless pacing.
•Superb balance between sport and romance.
•Amazing character growth.
•Exciting racing scenes.
•Just the right amount of sex. It was hot, the scenes were numerous, but it never took me out of the story, and it never felt like more sex than story.
•Both characters felt REAL.

Dislikes:
•NONE

The Narration:
Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann are both new or fairly new narrators to me and they were both phenomenal! As much as I love audiobooks, I find that I usually don’t get as deeply connected as when I read, but these two, plus K. Bromberg’s writing were a perfect combination. I think the audio even made it better.

The Down & Dirty:
Hands down, On The Edge by K. Bromberg will be at the top of my Best of 2024 list. I know it’s early to say that, but since I only had five 5-star reads last year, it’s not an easy rating for me to give, but I didn’t even have to think twice here. Even if you know nothing about Formula 1, it doesn’t matter, Kristy explains it all without it feeling like she is talking down to fans of the sport. You also don’t have to read the first in the series if you don’t want to because this stands alone. The pacing, the dialog, the characters, the action, the families, and the emotions were all just amazing. K Bromberg has written a lot of books I have loved but she has outdone herself, making On The Edge my new favorite.

Note: Want some real-life F1? The season starts back at the end of February, but in the meantime, check out Drive to Survive on Netflix.

The story is great! Maybe a little nutty in the beginning, but it gets so much better.

Everything about this story was fabulous!!

I absolutely LOVED this audiobook!!! The narrators did the most amazing job bringing this story to live! The banter, the spicy burning chemistry between the characters and the genius plot that K. Bromberg deliver was just pure perfection.

Cruz Navarro is a famous F1 driver and well know playboy. He wants to continue his family legacy but most of all he wants to make them proud but his father makes it very difficult with his constant criticism of him. So when an opportunity comes for him to land the biggest deal of his career he says YES to a "fake a romantic relationship" but what he never expected was Maddix.

I think from the first moment Cruz and Maddix met there was such a great chemistry between them. Maybe it took a bit longer for Cruz to realise how incredible Maddix was but once he did I loved how passionate and incredible Cruz was for Maddix.

Maddix was just a sweetheart. I loved how she was able to come out of her shell but also how she little by little broke into Cruz's walls.

I think the story balance so well, the romance along the adrenaline of the F1 racing world combine was so so good and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Steamy Formula 1

Am I a formula 1 fan? No...well...ok YES I AM (now)! Cruz has my heart, it's official. There's nothing I love more than a reformed playboy with a complicated family dynamic. Add in some fake dating and forced proximity while you're at it?? K Bromberg de-liv-ered! I loved this listen!

High octane love on the track

I love sports romances and the adrenaline combined with the developing relationships. But I do have to admit that racing is not a top sport for me....unless it's a book that's written by K Bromberg. She always seems to capture the characters, their love of the sport, some sort of drama and does it in a believable fashion. On the Edge is no different.

On The Edge is the second book in the Full Throttle series. It's fast paced, opposites attract, fake relationship, forced proximity, family trauma goodness. While it is the second book, it's a complete standalone (and was actually my first one I've read in the series).

Cruz Navarro is racing royalty, but his reputation proceeds him. He's known for his playboy ways so he must clean up his act if he wants to sign his next deal. That's where Maddix Hart comes in. At first she's just someone working on his campaign, but when the playboy picks her as his fake girlfriend, the chemistry ignites and before we know it they are crossing all the lines.

While I love a good fake dating romance, you are going to have to sell me on the playboy aspect. And Cruz had IT. Yes, he is a total playboy and loves his women, but his cocky ways seem to stem from something a little deeper. He's good looking, talented, and sure of himself when it comes to racing and women, but it's family that holds him back. The people that should love and support him most that bring him down. When Maddix brings a calm into his storm, he can't help but be balanced by it and fall for the woman that is beautiful, smart and out to do a job so she can succeed in her own career. These opposites come together while traveling on the racing circuit and their chemistry explodes! They balance one another out and stand up for each other when they need it.

Overall, this was a great sports romance with a great grovel in the 3rd act. The playboy fell and he won the woman back in the most spectacular way while coming to terms with who is really there for HIM. I'd also like to take a minute to address the audiobook narration. The narrators Robert Hatchet and Kit Swann brought Maddix and Cruz to life and gave me the high octane feel of the racing world that really upped it a notch. I definitely want to check out the first book now and continue on in the series.

Fake Dating/Forced Proximity/Sports Romance

4.5 Stars

There is just something about stories where the couple starts out not wanting anything serious and watching that morph into something real that gets me every time. I love the denial one (or both) of them has that the feelings their experiencing aren't anything more than lust. And I love the moment when they realize it's been real either the whole time, or way longer than they thought. Those are some of my favorite stories, and On the Edge definitely has a sample of that and I loved it.

I haven't read many racing sports romances, but I've really enjoyed this series from K. Bromberg. On the Edge was a gripping story that had me refusing to put the book down because I just had to know what was going to happen. I loved the Maddix put herself out there to experience more from her life, and I love how she went for what she wanted. I loved that she stood up for herself at every turn, no matter what. She was a fantastic female lead. I loved the growth we got to see for Cruz over the course of the book, and I loved the groveling he did to get back on Maddix's good side. I appreciated how his backstory was revealed and how it played a part in the story, and I love the way Maddix supported him through all of it. I loved the relationship the two of them developed and I loved how they cared for each other.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I loved this book as well. I can't wait to see what else this series has in store for us.

Sugar and Spice

Cruz Navarro is about to sign the sponsorship deal of a lifetime… IF and only if he cleans up his act of playboy price of Formula 1. They present a solution: pick a girlfriend from one of these folders and pretend you are settling down. He turns the tables on them and picks the “wildflower” sitting on the meeting. Take that, corporate goons!
When Maddix Hart helped the cute (but obviously panicked) guy before the meeting, she had no idea that he was THE Cruz Navarro. Now, he says he wants HER to participate in this crazy charade? No way her boss will go for it… Well, he does and her job is now on the line.
Soon “Madds” and Cruz are jet-setting all over the F1 circuit, staying in his condo in Monaco and Cruz is not at all what Maddix was expecting. She’s equally a surprise to him. They are perfect for each other, but Cruz has been hurt by people who were supposed to love him unconditionally. Will he be able to open his heart again and make fake into real?
When I pressed PLAY for this one, I just couldn’t stop. Cruz is that tortured soul hero that K. Bromberg writes so well as well as one of the sweetest ever! Cruz is fun, but “Cross” is to die for… “Madds” is the good girl next door but she is definitely no “wildflower”! She brings the bad boy to his knees and pulls Cross out in the open with her loyalty and her love.
Narration: narrated by a duo that enchants you from the first words. Kit Sawnn is phenomenal, going from wallflower Maddix to Madds and all the other characters flawlessly. Robert Hatchett is the was an amazing choice for Cruz, the bad boy with a cinnamon roll “alter ego”. I was afraid for the Spanish, but he did a great job!
This one was sugar and spice and everything nice!
