Female Narrator Ruined For Me

The story line was really interesting. But that darn female narrator’s voice made me cringe! Authors should really consider the narrators and how impactful they can be. If you can get passed the female voice who reads super fast then have at it.

Bad Narration

I’m sorry, I really want to like this book. The story line sounds interesting but I couldn’t get past the first 2 chapters with the female narrator chosen. I has this very weird inflection about her voice..almost like she’s asking a question for every single sentence. It’s very hard to describe but I just couldn’t. I wish there was an option to choose a different narrator :(

what

i do not understand why this has such good reviews. the sudden obsession between the main characters is based on so little its jarring and I can't get into it even if i try. male narrator is great, but Erin Mallon's vocal fry is like nails on a chalkboard for me. stoppppp just talk normally. drawing out the end of a word isn't a way to add intensity or some nonsense. its just annoying.

Can’t wait for more books in this series

Well this was my first book by Molly McAdams and it will most definitely not be the last. This story got me invested in the characters. I so wanted to know what had happened to Rae. I couldn’t figure out was it was so that was a surprise. The story is not predictable at all and the evolution of the characters and the relationship is near perfect. The background on Emberly has me very curious for the next book.
The dual POV narration was excellent. Both narrators did a wonderful job giving life to the characters and the story. Highly recommended!!!

I just don’t know

The story is so slow and the plot seemed so secretive that by chapter 10 you still have little to no idea what the main character’s issues are. Jason was the saving Grace as far as the performance. No offense but the female lead voice kind of makes me want to delete and never listened again. Her voice was a bit annoying and creepy when she imitated a male voice. Her voice always seemed the same breathy, yet congested like she getting over a cold. It doesn’t really mesh with a romance book. I skipped some of her chapters

The first but not the last

This may have been the first book by Molly McAdams i've listened to, but it will most definitely not be the last! I personally Love Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke as narrators, and to have them come together was fabulous! I loved the foreshadowing at the beginning, I loved the personality traits, and the clear love between Rae and Sawyer from the beginning. Everyone carries baggage, but these two carry more than their average load, and they still somehow change and evolve! I LOVED this book, and can't wait to start the next the series!

Can't stop rolling my eyes

DNF for me. Couldn't get past my dislike of the heroine, who runs away from and ghosts a man who loves her one minute and is eyeing another man ten seconds after that. And one of the first things she tells new man? "Dont fall in love with me," Wow, must be so good to have a magic body part!

Loooooooong road

I know quite a few reviewers are very happy with this book. However, it isn't for me. I listened for several hours before I just couldn't take anymore back and forth, her deep , dark secret and his angst over his past girlfriend with weight issues. I get you have to build up the drama , but it just went on and on. I won't be getting the rest of the books.

Loyalisa30

Molly McAdams truly evoked every heart wrenching emotion possible with Rae and Sawyer‘s roller coaster relationship. Betrayal, abandonment, distrust and dishonesty were only a few of the issues brought to life in this story! Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke did an amazing job narrating. Both truly expressed all the intended emotions from exasperation to hopefulness to love and everything in between. Loved it!!

My new favourite series - 4.5 stars

First in a series of small town romance stories, and yes, I’m going to be listening to the rest of this series on audio (because, Jason Clarke, need I say more - he just makes audio better).Sawyer Dixon has been badly burned, his childhood sweetheart broke his heart, he missed his shot at the NFL, and to say he has issues is an understatement. So when Rae Jacobs breezes into town, reminding him of everything he’s lost, he takes an instant dislike to her. Rae also has her issues, and let’s just say - Sawyer Dixon was never in her plan, oh, and the secrets, let’s not forget the secrets, she has a few of them. Enemies to lovers? Maybe. Small town romance? Yes. Grumpy bachelor? I’ll say. Addictive? Most definitely.

Could not finish!

I’m so annoyed. The story is good, Jason Clarke’s narration is perfection but my god… Erin Mallon’s narration was sending me insane. She is too fast first and foremost. The speed in which she’s talking actually tensed my body.
Second, why oh why does she have to announce her chapter…”Chapter Fouuuuuuur” for example?! The up, down of her voice on certain words. It’s just tooo much.
And third… I know it’s good to pronounce words correctly but Ms Mallon and her ‘check-ED’ ‘scrunch-ED’ ….. gaaaaa just too many to even attempt to write here!!!
I can’t finish and sadly will not even attempt the other books in the series as I can see she is the female narrator for the other books too.

Dreadful

What a complete waste of time. The storyline was just repeated over and over just to pad it out. The language was terrible with the f word every sentence- just unnecessary. Don’t waste your time on it.

This was good but could have been better…

My gripe with this was that I felt like there was too much repetition of the same, central conflict and that the cycle of conflict started too early. I really like the construction with the flashbacks (though flashbacks of Rae’s life would have made it even better) as well as the characters. They were flawed and real…

But yeah, I felt like every scene between the MCs was the same thing over and over and over and over, with little other dialogue. This made it hard to see how they could be so in love…

I’ll keep going with the series and we will see.

First time listener to this author A great listen

The story dealt with an extremely distressing scenario, which I felt was written well and was incorporated into the plot with sensitivity.

Always delighted to discover new authors.

ridiculous

Erin Mallon's performance was awful. The story overall was ridiculous; who walks around and tells random people to not fall in love with them?

Great news series

I really loved all the characters, and have to say it was awesome having their back stories revealed without the over reliance on flashbacks too many writers foist on us. Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Worthy

A story within a story is always a way to keep you interested and this one has that with both main characters. Keeps you intrigued to the end.
Other reviewers have not enjoyed the narration however I’ve listened to both of them before and get that it is a little monotone but wouldn’t say it was grating it just their way and you soon adjust.
As it’s a free book it’s definitely worth the time and I wouldn’t have been disappointed if I had paid for it.

great story

Absolutely loved this story. So sad, passionate, romatic, suspensful and exciting. Ray goes on a bit but still a good story. The male characters are so brudy, lovable and charismatic they are hard to resist.

Nice storyline

Truly captivating storyline. I enjoyed the unusual status of each person and their lives they shared. I couldn’t wait to finish the book it was very complex and very true of life.
