Smart, savvy suspense

The Silent Girls by Dylan Young is a very, very good audiobook. The intricately woven plot provides an excellent and suspenseful crime thriller that keeps its edge until the last pages. I connected with the main characters on our protagonist team, tasked with cleaning up an old cold-case mystery while monitoring a new one that appears connected to stave off mistakes made in the earlier case that sent an apparently innocent man to prison- or is he innocent?
This is one of those rare books that grabbed me from the first chapter and had me riveted. It is smart, savvy and extremely well-written, with keen attention to detail and a grittiness typically seen only in the most admirable suspense thrillers. This is one to admire and one to pick up right away, in my opinion. Tamsin Kennard’s narration was a pleasure to listen to, and this American listener thought her accents were ace. An easy five stars for The Silent Girls.

Polished and Sophisticated

Of late, so many of the mysteries I’ve read have been sloppy, filled with continuity issues, or just plain over the top.

While this novel may not be as fast-paced as the aforementioned novels, it’s well-written, smart and polished in a way those novels and novelists could never be. There’s a, what I’m guessing will be a storyline throughout the series, “Silence of the Lambs” parallel, but I think it works.

I rarely solve the mystery and I did so in this novel and pretty early on. I’ve wracked my brain and I attribute this not to any failing on the novelist but rather it just being on of those occasions in which I had real clarity of thought.

My only sadness is that there are only two novels so far but I suppose that means I have many more to look forward to!

Give me more...more...

Great story. Captivating and just enough bread crumbs to make you think twice or maybe even three times as to "who done it". Great narrator, and I am a critic of narrators. So kudos and bring it on!

A very enjoyable read

I enjoy thrillers but I don't always enjoy police procedural's. I found this one enjoyable. In my experience with thrillers many times the female protagonists can be frustrating and unrealistic. I enjoyed this book because the main character portrayed well and was actually believable.I wouldn't call this "a gripping thriller packed with mystery and suspense" but a good book nonetheless.

Good read

Gratefully, the narrator was very good. The story was interesting with just enough surprising twists

One of my favorites!

Great, suspenseful book with a “Silence of the Lamb” type feeling. Perfect narration by Tasmin Kennard- my favorite narrator to date!

Good first book

The opening of this book drew me in completely. The rest of the story with its earlier and now unsolved cases and the large number of characters tended to drag just a bit. The ending was a surprise which helps a lot.

This first in a series book was an easy and fairly quick read/listen. This genre is a favorite of mine and some are really really good. I will have to get the second book to see if this series will rank in that category.

I struggled to finish👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

I chose this one because of Tamsin Kennard (🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟) and even her awesome narrative skills could not save this. My first and I last book by author Dylan Young. I hard a hard time following the plot. Characters got lost throughout. This was one convoluted mess. I’m happy that I paid a few bucks and did waste a treasured credit. Definitely not recommended.

Twisty

This author new to me. Character development good. Plot full of twists and turns. Evil and gripping. Accent of narrator a bit hard for me to follow (my problem, not narrator).
