Story
It's one thing to hear a life-changing truth or to have a conceptual grasp on spiritual wisdom. But it’s another thing to "walk the walk" - or to put into practice the good advice we've been given. What does it mean to walk the walk in our everyday lives? According to Pema Chödrön, it means being down-to-earth, genuine, and perhaps most importantly, it means engaging in the teachings in order to actively confront anything and everything we’ve heretofore rejected in our attempts to find happiness.

We live in difficult times. Life so often seems like a turbulent river threatening to drown us and destroy our world. Why, then, shouldn’t we cling to the certainty of the comfortable - to our deep-seated habits and familiar ways? Because, Pema Chödrön teaches, that kind of fear-based clinging keeps us from the infinitely more powerful experience of being fully alive.

We all have fears, but when we look closely at them, we discover that behind each fear resides a basic fear of ourselves. We're afraid to look at our habitual styles of thinking and behaving because we might not always like what we see. Ironically it is this fear of honest self-reflection that keeps us trapped in patterns of stress and discontentment. Here is a vision for moving beyond this most basic fear to discover the innate bravery, trust, and joy that reside at the core of our being.

Learn how to use the gift of pain with Pema Chödrön, a Buddhist nun in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition. She teaches that it is in suffering where you will find the seeds of your awakening and that vulnerability is actually your greatest spiritual resource. You'll learn how to create your own spiritual retreat, the key teachings necessary for cultivating your own "soft spot" - the gateway to your own noble heart, the promise of the Four Limitless Ones, and the teachings on the Six Paramitas: the Buddha's own map of the journey to enlightenment. This program was recorded within the peaceful shrine room of Gampo Abbey, Chödrön's home on the cliffs of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary, groundbreaking book, the nation's leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs.

Not bad. Kind of streatched it a little
I got both meditation summit books and I think they would've been better off trimming a couple of the meditations and just going with one book. Some good meditations. What these are really good for is possibly finding new meditations. I don't think I'll be buying too many books from the author who did any of the meditations in this one. Maybe one. I found a couple in the first book. The two meditation summits combined are okay to pretty good. The first book is definitely better.

Helpful bites and opportunity to try different meditations
I liked this introduction to many teachers. This is not a drive to work book. About half is meditating. The sound quality is not controlled like a studio. Sounds like FaceTime- except for Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chodron (retreat recording?). But this doesn't diminish the quality of the interviews and the information transmitted. I, personally, had a breakthrough moment with Thich's meditation. I hope the next one will have more Q & A. Love Tami's questions.

Wish the audio quality was better
I was looking forward to this audio program considering that the content had a great collection of speakers that I wanted to enjoy listening to but unfortunately the audio quality detracted from that experience. Although the sound quality of the interviewer was clear and reminiscent of an NPR host, the actual speakers who were being asked questions and talking sounded poorly mic'd, distant, and tin can toned that was closer to sounding like Charlie Brown's teacher than a high quality Audible program.

I selected this book because I'm a fan of Joseph Goldstein. Tara was somewhat tolerable, Each successive speaker after that got progressively worse. Thich Nhat Hanh was terrible. I had to stop. Returning the book.
