yung pueblo’s path to deep healing began only after years of drug abuse had taken a toll on his mind and body. Searching for a way forward, he found that by honestly examining and addressing the anxieties and fears that he had been running away from, he no longer felt like a stranger inside of his heart and mind. And once he dedicated himself to meditation and trusting his intuition, he started to finally feel mentally lighter, with more love emerging from within. This was not an easy journey, and it's one that he is still on, but it showed him that real healing is possible.

Used in my Psychology class
I teach high school psychology and one of the hardest units that we study is the unit on the biological basis of behavior. So much of this book can apply to it and many more units in that curriculum.
On top of that, I’ve had the pleasure of contacting the author herself and she is as generous and giving as this book suggests she would be. There is a lot to unpack, reflect, and apply. I’m looking forward to revisiting this book again in a few months.

So many big ideas packed in a small book
This book is literally mind blowing. The author uses great examples backed up by good science to show how our brain can be our best friend or worse enemy depending on the situation. Thankfully, Ellen Petry Lease also gives us the solutions to make our brain an ally to achieve our goals and build the type of life that will make us truly happy.
