Publisher's Summary

A jock tutor and a determined sorority girl in this fun and sexy college sports romance.

Blair

What's the probability of insulting the one guy on campus I need to help me pass statistics? If I knew, I wouldn't be standing in front of Wes Reynolds begging him to tutor me.

Basketball player, sexy, arrogant, always sleeping through class...these are the things I knew about him. What I didn't know is that he is a seriously smart jock.

Wes

What's the best way to get rid of the peppy and unrelenting girl that keeps asking me to tutor her? If I knew, I wouldn't be staring at her tan legs and attempting to teach her statistics.

Sorority girl who's fine as hell, determined, and a ball buster...these are the things I knew about her. What I didn't know is that she is all the things I didn't realize I wanted or needed.

Or that one semester with her would change everything.

Fantastic Twist on the Typical Sports Romance!

Overall 4.5 stars
Performance 5+ stars
Story 4 stars

This book surprised me in the best way! I loved the author's twist on the typical sports romance/tutor trope! It was so refreshing to have the hero be the tutor and not just this over the top, big man on campus jock. I really enjoyed the gradual build up between Wes and Blair. There's definitely an attraction from the start, but they develop a true connection and really get to know each other through the course of the book. They had such great banter and back and forth. Wes is this ornery and grumpy guy, while Blair is a burst of sunshine. Their personalities were such a complement to the other and I loved how they were the light to the others dark.

There are some bumps along the way as they struggle with the depth of their feelings, as well as trouble with a horrible ex and changes in their future game plans, but overall the angst level was pretty low. I did want to throat punch Wes a time or two towards the end, but he did do some pretty good groveling to make up for it. ;) The secondary characters were just as fun, especially Vanessa and Joel. I'm a little wary since Joel is quite the manwhore, but I'm excited that his book is next.

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke were AMAZING! I loved their narration and both were able to do male and female voices so convincingly. I've listened to quite a few audiobooks with Erin Mallon, but this was the first time listening to Jason Clarke in more than a small supporting role. I have to say, that I was totally blown away by Jason Clarke's performance. He voiced each character so amazingly and uniquely, that I had zero problems figuring out who was speaking. I am so impressed at his range and ability to voice so many characters without them all blending together. Truly a fantastic performance! It doesn't hurt that his voice is damn sexy too! ;) This is my first book by the author, but it definitely won't be my last!

4.5 Fun & Steamy Stars!

I fell so hard for this hilarious, sweet and steamy romance! I wasn't sure what to expect but this story was so refreshing, moving and funny. Blair and Wes had the most awkward beginning scenes. I just wanted to save poor Blair from putting her foot in her mouth! But it was the perfect start to the romance between the overworked Blair and the popular basketball nerd. I loved how Jenshak took her time building their relationship. Bringing in their friends who made this story even more fun but heartrending at times as well. Blair and Wes are so perfect together, balancing their strengths and vulnerabilities. I totally swooned over Wes and all his alpha protectiveness! This story was multifaceted and made my heart hurt at times. Narrators, Erin Mallon, and Jason Clarke were amazing as Blair and Wes. I easily felt all the fun, passion, heartbreak, and love these characters felt. I loved the chemistry between Clarke and Mallon and think they compliment each other so perfectly and I was easily lost to their storytelling.

Love it!

I absolutely love everything about this! The story and narration were both great! Blair and Wes were both fantastic characters, the side characters left me wanting more from this series, and the writing had me engaged from beginning to end!

I loved watching Blair and Wes fall. There was just something fantastic about watching them transition from strangers to friends to so much more. The conflict was believable, and the chemistry was perfect! Both of these characters were so well developed. I felt like I knew them and understood where they were coming from. I also liked that they had their own struggles outside of their relationship.

I seriously can't wait for more of this series. The side characters not only added to this story, but they were developed and left me wanting each and every one of their stories!

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke did a fantastic job narrating this! They brought the characters to life and had me hooked from the first word to the last. Seriously, these characters popped off the page. Every emotion came through in their performance!

Smart, Hot, Jock indeed

I loved everything about this book. The story is great and believable. It flows well and keeps your interest throughout the entire book. The characters are all well developed and likeable with the exception of the bad guy and he is true to form. You get a good picture of the surroundings so you can picture you are there with Blaire and Wes and all the other great characters we get to fall for in this series. Rebecca Jenshak was new to me on this one but I am hooked on her words.

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke, just having those two listed is enough to know how good the audio is on this one but let me say they did an outstanding job. I was lost in their voices. Erin is fantastic and I love listening to her but I think I could listen to Jason Clarke read the phone book and be happy. They were both perfect with these characters. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. I loved this and highly recommend it.

A great sports romance!

I loved this story, although I wish there would've been more of a violent revenge on the ex, it was a great read! Plenty of laughter and romance.

A strong start to the Smart Jocks series

The Assist was my introduction to Rebecca Jenshak's writing, and now, it's also my first audiobook listen from her. Narrated by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke--two of my favorite narrators--this audio had a great balance of humor and angst with college life and basketball as its backdrop, and balancing those two--the humor and angst--isn't necessarily an easy thing to do yet Jenshak does it impeccably well in this series starter. Blair and Wes were main characters who were easy to like, and these two were by no means your typical sorority girl and college jock, respectively. I must give kudos to Jenshak for taking the story in a direction that surprised yet impressed me, choosing to take the proverbial road less traveled. Alongside the author's great writing, Mallon and Clarke elevated the story even further, bringing both Blair and Wes to life and work seamlessly well together, which isn't always a guaranteed thing when two narrators pair up. Overall, The Assist was the sort of sports romance audio that serves up exactly what it promises--sports and romance--and doesn't skimp on either one. 4.5 stars for the story, five stars for the narration, which equates to a 4.5-starred listen. ♥

Fantastic slow-burn, sports romance! #MustListen

Sports romance is kind of my jam and The Assist by Rebecca Jenshak was such a refreshing take on this trope.

Blair is drowning in her statistics class. She decides to bite the bullet and go to Wes, captain of the basketball team, and ask for information on the team’s math tutor. But she quickly learns that he’s no stereotypical dumb jock and is quite the math wiz. When Wes reluctantly becomes her tutor their chemistry intensifies into a fantastic slow-burn that even this slow-burn hater absolutely loved!

Aside from a fantastic romance there was so much great storytelling throughout. The banter was fan-freaking-tastic between not only the two MCs, but also the supporting characters. There was the perfect balance of feels and laughter that I couldn’t get enough of this story.

Narration was done by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke. Both audio favorites of mine and it’s clear why. Both absolutely hit the nail of comedic and emotional aspects of the story right on the head! They took a five star book and elevated it to a ten star audiobook. FAB! #MustListen.

Great Story with Great Narration

The Assist by Rebecca Jenshak was a fantastic story with fantastic narration! Jenshak really puts a twist on the athlete/tutor romance. It's actually the jock that is the tutor. There isn't anything sexier than a smart man, and Wes is an athlete too! No wonder Blair fell for him like she did!!!

Both Wes and Blair were great characters. They complemented each other perfectly, making each one better. There wasn't too much angst. They both have to adjust their life expectations when life throws them a curveball. That is a part of becoming an adult. Wes had a few moments when I wanted to throw something at him, but he does redeem himself. I really enjoyed watching these two fall in love.

I also loved the secondary characters, like Vanessa and Joel. However, my favorite by far was Gabby, Blair's childhood friend. I really LOVED her, and she is a big reason that Blair is the wonderful person that she is. I'm so glad to see she has her own story in a later book.

The narrators, Ern Mallon and Jason Clarke, were outstanding narrators. I didn't just enjoy their voices, but they made me believe they were Blair and Wes. They pulled me heart and soul into their story.

I'm so glad I found Rebecca Jenshak, and I'm looking forward to listening/reading more from her!

Jason Clarke & Erin Mallon fabulous duet narrators

I just love this book. The author Rebecca Jenshak made it not just about basketball the game, but basketball behind the scenes. How the players feels it in their heart, about what it really means to play the game to WIN!The story also had an opportunity to show that all jocks are not stupid, that they do have a brain. The author put some action into it, had a part where you wanted to punch someone, and I definitely don't want to leave out the HOT SEX between Blaire & West.

The narrator's Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon were more than sizzling through my ears because that is what they were giving us throughout the storyline. They had awesome chemistry, like they were meant to do this book together. They're in my "Top 10 List of Duet Narrators" that I would like to hear together in other books, cuz ya they were that sexy hot together. I do recommend this book for sure to others. You'll definitely understand why I gave them 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Suits a young person really interested in sport

Ok, so, I disliked the heroine right off the bat, she was pushy and judgemental and cringe worthy. To me, the ‘dark secret’ driving her behavior was a plot device that should have been dealt with by law enforcement. I liked Wes way more until he ghosted her and was all around sulking bc sport was life. Full disclosure, as a 50yo Australian I just thought he was immature but this could possibly appeal to readers who enjoy a ‘coming of age’ type plot. Both narrators suited the characters and I would certainly listen tothem again but not in this series. This title was accessed as a #Audiobookreviewobsession reviewer

This was an awesome listen!!!

Wes is a college basketball player. He has no time for a relationship, and isn’t looking for one.

Blaire is a college student. She has been burned by a boyfriend and is still being blackmailed by him for a mistake made. She doesn’t want a relationship, nor does she have time for one.

What happens when you’re living out the dream your best friend has had for both of you, and due to an accident, isn’t ready to live it out for herself??

What happens when you meet someone, when you’re not looking for a relationship of any kind, but it comes into your life and you don’t know how to handle it?

What happens when you lose what you believe you’re good at, maybe the only thing... and how do you deal with the relationship you didn’t want, but now have, through all of the disappointment and fear that you’ll never be enough?

The great part of this book is being able to read about this and find out the reasons for the questions and what the answers are. It’s a tremendous book! Rebecca Jenshak is a fantastic writer, and Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke... need I say more!! The narration is spot on!!!!

I loved this!!!

Sweet contemporary sport love story

The overall story was solid and kept me entertained, I really enjoyed the dynamics between all of the characters. The ending felt realistic and not rushed. I will definitely continue with the rest of the series. I absolutely loved the narration slightly more than the book itself. #Audiobookobsessionreviewer

A story of love that can happen even at the most unplanned times. I loved listening to this book. The college and basketball references were exactly how I would see things happening in real life. So realistic and the perfect getaway listening to this book.

A cute, sweet, sexy story and a great audio

This was a cute college romance that was sweet and light. I can't say there was anything exceptional or too memorable about it storywise but the audio was amazing. Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon did an outstanding job reading this story. If you pick this book, definitely take the audio experience. It was a great pleasure listening to those two as usual. They put so much emotion in every story they perform and this was not an exception.

That was a nice and refreshing story. It had some intense parts, but it wasn’t overly dramatic and left me smiling at the end. I loved the idea of the sexy smart jock and the girl who needed help with her statistic class. It was kind of fun to read. I had some good laughs with this plot. It was a sexy read and definitely had enough to offer in the steam department. But the story was a bit slow in other terms, a bit uneventful and kind of predictable for the most part.

So all in all this was a nice, sweet story, perfect for in-between books maybe. It was somehow light and fluffy. But it managed to put a smile on my face and left me with a positive feeling altogether. But it was the audio experience that raised the rating of this one for me.

Audible performance makes the story more fun

I highly recommend the audible version of this story. The performers did a great job and I'm pretty sure I'd be content to listen to them read the phone book. I debating rating the story itself lower due to typical relationship drama, but decided the way that the story was written/performed made what could have been a very typical contemporary sports romance a lot more fun. Because of the humor, I can see myself listening to this one again and I almost never repeat the same story twice when there are so many new stories out there.

This was my first book by Rebecca Jenshak but I've already looked up the next in the series. I will also check out some other books performed by Jason Clarke and/or Erin Mallon.

Sports Romance

The Assist by Rebecca Jenshak is a college sports romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke.

This is the first book of Rebecca’s that I have read and it definitely won’t by last. I absolutely loved Wes and Blair’s love story. I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book The Fadeaway.

Erin and Jason did an amazing job on the narration. They brought the story to life and made it so easy to follow along.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Sports Romances.

Assistance Provided

Blair was being overworked and needed help in a class so she asked the jock about who was tutoring him, but he was one of the smart ones. This crazy introduction leads to a friendship that develops into a relationship. Their funny cute relationship leads to more friendships being made and great chemistry.

love love

This story is quirky from Blair's side of things and like Wes says, she's got guts. not one misunderstanding but 2 more and the girl doesn't lose heart.
Smart jock and figuring ways to get him to tutor you while also dealing with a side sadness of missing a best friend who fears venturing out after an accident makes for a well balanced read.
plus Jason's voice is, oh my goooood
