Brady

What the hell do I know about raising a baby? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing.

Yet here I am, the sole guardian of my niece. I'd be lost if it weren't for Katherine, the beautiful girl who seems to have all the answers. Katherine, who's slowly finding her way into my cynical heart. I keep reminding myself that I can't fall for someone when we don't have a future. But telling myself this lie and believing it are two different things.

Katherine

When Brady shows up on a Harley, looking like an avenging angel - six feet, three inches of chiseled muscle, eyes the color of wild sage, and sun-kissed skin emblazoned with tattoos - I'm not sure if I should fall at his feet or run like hell. Because if I tell him what happened the night his family died, he might hate me.

What I don't count on are the nights we spend together trying to forget the heartache that brought us here. I promise him it won't mean anything, that I won't fall in love. I shouldn't make promises I can't keep.

Female narrator should not attempt a Boston accent

Female narrator cannot do a Boston accent. Every time she spoke as Brady I had to cringe. My overall rating would have been higher if she had not attempted (unsuccessfully) to do a Boston accent.

Easy to love

This book was unexpectedly perfect. It had it all - heartache, angst, feels, romance, and light humor. I loved how much Texas and Latino culture was thoughtfully put into it. The story was realistic too - real money problems that are relatable without magically coming into money and solving all their problems. I tend to roll my eyes when that happens because seriously that’s not how life works. I like romances that stay on this side of the fence rather than only face relationship or other issues and adding the convenient influx of cash that solves all problems.

Anyways... the romance was hot and sweet - not cheesy. I love that. Their chemistry throughout was good too. The only thing I disliked in a big way was the male narrator. He’s not bad at all, I just really don’t think his voice was right for this character and especially as the female voice. I honestly liked her for both parts, she did a good Boston accent for a man and her take on Cat was good too.

My best friend is half Texan, half Mexican and I felt like the author pretty much nailed her and her family’s culture and lifestyle. The male narrator’s voice was just not deep or masculine enough for Brady - the big sexy tattoo artist. His female voice was wayyyyy too airheady for the tough, hard working woman Cat is. If Sebastian York had done this, I’d have died from the hotness. My point is... many scenes were throwing me off because they weren’t matching the images the author painted in my mind - especially the steamier ones. I’d almost have preferred to have read this over listened, as this could be one of my favorites without the wrong voices tainting my opinion.

The beginning was sad but it maybe could have been done a bit better. You really don’t know his brother or SIL at all as individuals, so it’s more difficult to feel all the emotions that they’d have been feeling beyond basic sympathy for a tragedy. If they’d been described a little more, I feel like I’d have felt it deeper. I got pretty frustrated with how a little communication could’ve prevented so many obstacles but some people are just stubborn and I guess that is a pretty realistic take on relationships.

Overall, this book is a must read, unique and beautiful.

Ok, only

Touching story, characters were beautiful but the story was bit long winded, not to impressed with male narration.

PERFECTION.. NO WONDER THIS WAS A BESTSELLER

Brady was already struggling and juggling his life around to support his Mom and Dad, pay back loans and working two jobs - as a Tattoo Artist and stepping up to oversee his Dad's company. Then he got a call about his estranged brother that would completely devastate Brady, bring heartbreak, joy, challenges, laughter, love and totally change his way of life.. but first he had to meet Katherine.

Katherine had become a permanent fixture on her best friend's farm living with her, her husband and baby daughter and helping with any chores that needed doing around the farm. She'd left a successful career, a douche bag of a boyfriend and her previous lifestyle behind her - for a best friend, chickens, a horse, two pigmy goats, kittens, a raccoon and a sweet baby girl. Then a storm changed her perfect world, threw it into heartbreak and turmoil and Katherine was literally left holding the baby.. well, that is until a tall, handsome tattooed biker appears on the doorstep. When Katherine and Brady first meet there's too much to be done, too much heartache, pain and guilty consciences for anything to flourish between them - but, as they both try to cope with their loss, pick up the pieces and prepare for their futures.. attraction flares, passion ignites and love finally blooms from the ashes.

What great characters Katherine and Brady were - they both stepped up to challenges, were hard workers, unconditionally supported each other and were kind, thoughtful, caring and dedicated. Brady had never even held a baby before and he was thrown in the deep end but Katherine was there every step of the way. It wasn't easy for Brady to step into his brother's life but he slowly learnt that the so called 'perfect life' that he'd shunned his brother for choosing would turn out to be the perfect life for him too. However, first he had to lean heavily on Kat, tame down his raging attraction to her and ignore the building sexual chemistry between them by setting rules - never cross the line, never have mind blowing sex with her, never hurt her and never ever fall in love with her.. but Brady broke ALL the rules. Which all took a delicious amount of time to unfurl in this low drama/emotionally high sweet love story that had sorrow, grief, turmoil, passion, sex, romance.. and an expiry date.

Worth a credit? One Million YES' - an addictive storyline, a well paced romance where you get to see H/H's relationship evolve and turn from friendship to love, great characters, a drool-worthy awesome Hero, a strong loveable Heroine AND the narrators successfully brought the characters to life, injected all the emotions called for and made this listen unique, unstoppable.. and unforgettable too.

3.5 "Good But Predicable"

I enjoyed the first half of the book but second half was a slow & predictable, but not bad. The book was also repetitive for many chapters. No drama besides both characters whining about him not staying.
I am not a fan of lots of internal dialogue and this book has chapters of that.
It was also too cheesy for me, the main plot was of two people that wanted to jump their bones. I was expecting more, some drama (seeing the circumstances) or something different.
I am going to try another book from this author and see if that is better.

Stephen Dexter and Brooke Bloomingdale were good with the delivery of the story

Great book!

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was different from a lot of romance novels. The thing I liked about it best was how Katherine really respected and cared for Brady and Izzy. She demonstrated a real love by putting her true feelings and needs aside for what she thought Brady wanted. Lex Martin also provides a lengthy storyline which makes the dialogue more interesting!

An Adorable Read

This is the first time I've read anything by Lex Martin, but it certainly wont be the last. I loved the complete innocence of this story - two people brought together following the death of people they both care for and a baby both vow to look after in the absence of the parents. A very pleasant read.
