Publisher's Summary

Willa Knight: Dweller. Slave. Non-magical being.

In Minatsol, being a dweller means that you are literally no better than dirt. In fact, dirt might actually be more useful than Willa. Her life will be one of servitude to the sols, the magic-blessed beings who could one day be chosen to become gods.

At least her outer village is far removed from the cities of the sols, and she won't ever be forced to present herself to them... Until one small mistake changes everything, and Willa is awarded a position to serve at Blesswood, the top sol academy in the world - a position that she definitely did not earn.

Under the sudden, watchful eye of the gods, she will be tasked to serve the Abcurse brothers, five sols built of arrogance, perfection, and power. They are almost gods themselves, and under their service, she is either going to end up sentenced to death, or else they are going to ruin her so badly that she will wish for it.

Either way, she is in trouble.

This is a full novel, 90,000 words. Book one of five in the Curse of the Gods Series

Good storytelling with a kinky side!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline and voices were excellent. The main character seems to have been ripped off a comedy stage! She is very humorous with the associated insecurities you would expect from a young comedian. The relationships between the characters develop nicely with a very kinky undertone. One warning though -- if bad language makes you squeamish, you should probably skip this one (your loss though!)

WHAT WAS THAT!!!!

Ok first off I NEVER give things 5 stars. If I like it it gets 3. If I REALLY like it it gets 4. To get 5 stars I have to have loved it so much that the moment it's over I want to go replay it. THIS book is one of those rare finds. Honestly I just finished reading 2 series that were both 6 books long and fairly dark and I wanted something based in a different world that would put me in a good mood. I nearly skipped this book until I saw how nearly all the reviewers noted how funny it was. So I caved.

All that said, I loved the book. I had me laughing so hard at times that my sides hurt. :). The authors find a nice balance between humour and realistic consequences. The one down side to this book is that it IS the first in the series which means that most of the book is focused on world building and character development. Also, there are a LOT of characters to meet and get to know and at times you have to be careful or they begin to blur together. But there is a story told fully here and it sets a great foundation for the future books. I can't wait to see where the authors take the story from here but in the mean time, I'll probably be replaying this one a LOT.

Simply WOW!

Okay I'm in love with the brothers. Jaymin and Jane are a powerful combination. The dynamic and chemistry between and and Willa is breathtaking, seriously I held my breath throughput the story. Oh my gods! I cannot wait for the rest of the series. The narrator was on point. Her style was very hypnotic; it definitely kept me inside the story. Made it really hard to put down the headphones 🎧. I hope the rest of the series gets released into audiobooks because I will be waiting...🤞💋

Addicting, funny, and original

Loved the brothers and the main character. Loved her running dialogue with herself. Honestly hilarious. Listened to this book at the end of a road trip and my family didn't get me back until I finished the book since the Drive ended before the book 😂

Only downside is that I am discovering this book 1 with no more available and I'm pouting about it. Wish audible had a way to earmark a series anticipating more books 📚

Quirky, Fun, and Smart

Just when I said I was done with YA, this light hearted gem falls into my lap (on recommendations list). After the first few mintues I was concerned I might have wasted one of my credits on a silly children's books disguised as Fantasy. Luckily, I decided to give this clumsy unlucky Dweller a few more chapters.

This novel really surprised me. I didn't even realize I was hooked. I'm not big on comedy but Willa's smart remarks and bad luck made me giggle a few times. The story behind the goofy falls and awkward nudity is actually quite interesting. Five brothers with different powers take Willa into their clique. She has to learn each of them and they have to adjust having a fragile human girl around.

My only negative criticism of the book is the ending. It just ends. Not in a draw dropping cliff hanger, but more like the editor just chopped half of the last chapter off to save pages.

I'm glad I found this book. If you are looking for a funny fantasty novel without the overplayed love triangle then you'll enjoy this journey into the world of Sols and Dwellers.

Oh Yeah.

Hell to the freaking yeah. I was beginning to become disappointed with the Audible Romance Package selection. I stumbled across this little gem after being disappointed with my last five books. I can only handle so much dark romance.

This. This is joyful. People complain about the childishness of the heroine and I totally get it. I can see how most people would be frustrated with her. But I freaking love it. It reminds me of Usagi in Sailor Moon. It's just... ridiculous and silly and joyful. I keep thinking she's that clumsy because there is more than meets the eye to her.

Anyway. I started squealing with joy even more once I realized this is actually a "reverse harem" story. So. Yeah. Hell to the yeah. I'm lovin this. I'm loving the narrator - even if she speaks too fast sometimes. She's cute. She does the part of Willa justice.

I'm ready for the naughty adult parts. Maybe? Hope they come the next few books? It's nice to read something again that really builds up to that.

the perspective was weird.

One minute she is believably 18. Then the next, I'm wondering if she's so naive that she's a child. I wouldn't recommend this story to anyone. The performance was good considering how bad the content was.

Good story but narrator should slow down

Would you listen to Trickery again? Why?

I would definitely listen to this again

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trickery?

I wouldn't say there was any one part that was entirely memorable, but it is still a good book

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She was really good with the various voice changes and handled the challenge of changing the tones of the 5 brothers well

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were a few moments that gave me the giggles and certainly a few shocks

Any additional comments?

My only grumble was the narration speed. The narrator sounded more like she was speed reading the story which made it hard to keep up on occasion and did spoil the effect of the story slightly.I tried reducing the playback speed but that just made it too slow

Wonderful wonderful wonderful

I loved this book, the storyline the characters the world!!! My only dislike was the lack of differentiation between the brothers. The narrator did not make a big enough difference between them.

Strange but fun

This book is...odd. There is a bright, irreverent tone to the writing and engaging characters. However the plot doesn't build and there's an obvious twist coming which I guess they have saved for later novels so it all falls a bit flat. The dynamic of the heroine lusting after five brothers and vice versa means there's not so much of a romance going on, rather a PG orgy. The narrator - as commented by another reviewer - does have a rather rushed style and personally I found the male voices both abysmal and indistinguishable. Overall the confidence of the writing carries it through, but it is quite flawed.

Wonderful

Beautifully crafted and highly entertaining first instalment of Curse of the Gods. I cannot wait for the following instalments. Jaymin Eve and Jane Washington are fabulous together. Eve is a fantastic storyteller always bringing characters to life with a unique understanding of human nature with all of it’s flaws and endearments. This is the first time of encountering Washington and I cannot wait to dive into her other stories. I highly recommend this series to anyone wishing to escape into a wonderful new world of the fantastic.

This is a must read/must listen to

I read this book already and got excited when I learned it was available on audiobook, but some of my favourite books have been read by narrators that I just could not listen to so there was also some aprehension as well

My concerns were null and void, the narrator is AWESOME! She really brought this amazing story to life, her voice IS Willa! The quality is clear as a bell with no weird background noises and her voices for the other characters are excellent and slip in seamlessly

I highly recommend this book and the audio, it's lovely to listen to, relaxing, soothing, exciting and draws you deep I to the story, I very highly recommend

Forgot that I hadn't reviewed this

As always, I first read the pixels version of the book and when I saw it was out in audio decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did as the narrator-Vanessa Moyen-is excellent and gives the dialogue (and Willa's inner monologue) a verve that is both hilarious and enjoyable. I could tell which characters were speaking with no problems and there were genuine laugh out loud moments at certain points when Willa and the Abcurse brothers were interacting with each other. (I think it would make a great film actually) I'm going to listen to this again, & the 2nd book, as they're genuine pick-me-ups that leave me feeling cheery when the book ends.
The third book is out soon in e-book form and I'm hoping that the print and audio versions won't be far behind (& that the narrator for no.3 is Vanessa as she's excellent.

Love Willa's internal babblings

Love the unusual quirky relationship they have its not what I expected at all.

She's just as feisty as the five brothers so gives them more than a bit of sass back, any other dweller would have floundered from the get go.

I'm intrigued to see how their relationship and friendships develop across the next books.

Some people found the narration too fast judging by previous reviews, I have had no problem with this. I quite like the pace, it keeps the story going and me interested.

Willa is an interesting character and does not conform on any level, but she's funny and sincere whilst still being ditsy as hell. her inner babblings and lack of self censor make me chuckle, she seems to have no filter most of the time.

The brothers seem to have taken her under their wing for some reason, I get the impression this kind of thing does not normally happen in their world so they are all breaking boundaries and upsetting the norm.

Funny, adventure, no slow parts

Great narrater. I have enjoyed listening to her voice in other books as well. I really enjoyed the story. It seemed like a cross between Hive Trilogy and The Lazy Girls Guide to Magic series. No slow parts. Plenty of funny parts. More violence in the second book than the first. In both the first and second book there are the hot guys but more funny than too mushy romantic. I can’t wait for more books.

outstanding!

I was a little skeptical at first but this has been one of the best literary experiences of my life
It almost has it all, comedy, suspense, action, lust and love
Saddened it was a little short, but I'm excited for the next chapter
