Publisher's Summary

In the next installment of the New York Times best-selling Throne of Glass series, follow Chaol on his sweeping journey to a distant empire.

Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the king of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica - the stronghold of the southern continent's mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both - and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.

What's Chaol been up to?

First of all, I adore this book series. Right from the beginning. Having said that: Chaol is not my favorite character by any means. He's blindly loyal, broods too much, and has made some really bad decisions...which is exactly why we needed this book. I want to go right back to where we left Aelin, but the fact is that this book tied several pieces of information together. We learned so much new information as well, and Chaol got a lot of personal redemption. He's still not my favorite character, but I really like Yrene. We got a ton of character development out of Nezrin, which was needed.
In the end, this will not be anyone's favorite book of the series, but it is a necessary part of the whole.

filler

This was an almost cheesy filler novel that follows Chaol on a love/healing quest. Very little took place to further the main plot. I don't mind romance, but please, please- a little more action! Kill something or someone already! A few information bombs are dropped- but too few and too far between to save the book overall. This novel ends where it should have begun! Don't expect Dorian or Aelin!

good narrator

the narrator was good, I am just disappointed that it only mentioned aelin at the end. And I wasn't aware that it would only be about my least favorite characters. The last book ended so well and I was super excited to see how it would continue...But then it didn't.

Maas did it again!

This book! I can't say I wasn't a little disappointed when I realized this book was just Chaol and not the last book in the series like I expected but once I started listening I couldn't stop. Maas' stories are always spellbinding and this is no exception. Chaim's story is just as good as any other book Maas has written and it made me love Chaol all over again. Can't wait for the next one!

another epic installment!

Sarah J Maas nails it again. I laughed, I cried (like a baby) and got totally sucked in AGAIN!! Non stop listened to this audiobook and am hungry for more! I wish I didn't have to wait for the next one, I'm so hopelessly addicted and a year is a long time in the desert with no water ;) I suppose I can just reread the entire series again as well as her other ultra amazing series starring the beautiful Feyre to pass the time... but in all seriousness; this audiobook is worth every cent and I will treasure all of these books for years to come. I am absolutely enthralled with SJM more and more with every book I read. Her unique and clever writing style, the character and world development and most especially her intricate way of weaving a tale and the endless well played twists and turns that often leave surprised tears in my eyes or a giant smile on my face (I'm still smirking about the scene on Rolf's ship with Caleana and that bowl of rubies from the last book!). While I usually appreciate books that give me as much as 5 times more listening hours than other books for the same credit I find that sometimes the books can be too dry, too descriptive or needlessly long but with every single SJM book I feel almost bereft when I'm done, so non existent is the boredom even after nearly 30hrs of listening. I really can't say enough how much I love these books and even though I was hesitant about this one being from different characters POV than the other books and not including Aelin at all, I was very pleasantly surprised with the fact that it fits in very naturally with the series and may be one of the best so far. Highly recommend!! ALL of the thumbs, way up in the air!

Good, but not great

Just didn't quite live up to the other books in the series. For me the flow of the story and contents were too far off. Felt more like a novella than a continuation of the series. Still exited for the next book to come out.

Surprised!

I'll be honest. I expected to hate this. A book without Aelin did not interest me at All. But it was in the series so I figured I would go ahead and read it. Boy was I surprised! It was brilliant and never once did I miss the other characters. I was drawn in from the first word in till the end of the book!

Boring

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Less romance and more action.

What could Sarah J. Maas have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The original character had depth and colour to his personality, which was lost in this book. Unfortunately this was below par.

What didn’t you like about Elizabeth Evans’s performance?

Her delivery which is becoming very drawn out.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Tower of Dawn?

Probably about half the book. Not much happened but it took forever to come to a conclusion

Any additional comments?

I think this was more of a romance than science fantasy. Which is not to my taste. However, others might prefer it that way.

Wonderful story, beautifully performed.

Elizabeth Evans brings Sarah J Mass's story to life so brilliantly. I love the way she portrays even if the characters. I've listened to the whole series many times. They are great for adding a touch of magic to a long day in the office!

I just want to cry!! I waited so long for this!!!!

I was new to SJM and instantly became the best author I have ever read. I recommended her to Friends, family, colleagues even random people I met.

However this book left me feeling like it was just something released because it had to be. There was none of the humour and witty banter and more importantly there was no excitement beyond the same battle scenes that were very similar to the previous ones.

I really hope the next is going to be soon as I need to get to the GREAT BATTLE SCENE soon or I will die of anticipation!

These are only my opinions and they are not intended to offend anyone.

Don't even know if I can be bothered to finish

What would have made Tower of Dawn better?

If it wasn't just about Chaol. Last book left us hanging with Alein kidnapped and a lot of drama going on, to leave us with effectively a 2 year wait from that book to the book after this being published with no word of whats happening to the main character. If Chaol was still the same as the initial books then fine, but he's just become too grumpy, annoying and self pitying and 22 hours listening to that is wearing... I'm almost at the mid way point and don't know if I can be bothered going right to the end. Massive let down as other books are great

What will your next listen be?

no this, thats for sure.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

as I haven't yet listened to the end I can't comment but so far... none.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment.

Any additional comments?

the last book didn't involve any Chaol so it makes sense this one should feature him heavily, but maybe the last book and this book should have been sliced and mixed together so there was a bit of both in each to make it more interesting.

Outstanding

I started listening to this book thinking that it'd be just as rushed and lacking in detail as assassins blade, the other spin off from Aelin's plot line but I was so wrong this book was amazing, just as good as the rest of the books. Give it a read.

Fantastic, yet I missed the other characters

Sarah J. Maas has such skill for intertwining all the main characters with brilliant perfect twists, you sometimes don't see coming. It's worth listening to the prequel to the throne of glass- The Assassin's Blade, as this will be all the more evident and add to the story immensely. After the cliffhanger in the last book, I was a little disappointed with this one not really including any of the other characters and now have to wait a while for the next instalment.

Regardless, I enjoyed this story and it's well worth the read even though I find the other characters much more fascinating.

Always amazing

I always love SJM books, and this was no exception. Loved the narrator - Elizabeth Evans is always brilliant in the way she reads the narrative and voices the characters. Extremely easy to chill out and delve into the story.
