Publisher's Summary

A summer in Italy turns into a road trip across Tuscany in this sweeping debut novel filled with romance, mystery, and adventure.

Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn't in the mood for Italy's famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She's only there because it was her mother's dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn't around for 16 years? All Lina wants to do is get back home.

But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina's uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother's footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept from Lina for far too long. It's a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father - and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

Predictable

Although there were some twists and turns, it is predictable. Do read this before you visit Florence Italy though - it will give you so much to look forward to!

Amazing but predictable

I love this book! It has so many plot twists and almost relatable text in some way that it draws you in and makes you want to read more! On the other hand I did predict the ending at the begging of the book but it was still amazing the here the middle and the other plot twists. The narrator of the book was also very good and made me enjoy the book that much more!

Corny and boring

The premise of the story was alright, but the book itself was incredibly boring and cheesy. Lina was whiny and annoying, and there really wasn’t a sense of romance. If you’re looking for something that makes you want to listen through to the end and wondering what will happen next, this isn’t the one.

Cute teenage love story

Just a quick review, I didn’t think I’d like this book because it seemed it might be too young for me (I’m 35). I’m pleasantly surprised that it outdid itself and I listened through to the end. It’s a cute teenage love story that just makes you want to believe in love again.

Fun Listen

Really enjoyed this sweet story -- somewhat predictable, yet, a fun, relaxing listen. Enjoyed the historical references too.

Loved the story!

At first I really struggled with this book. I believe some of it was because I am 30 years old, and had a hard time relating to a 16 year old again. (Yes, I realize this is a young adult novel - I also live in Utah and wanted to support a local author) The things Lena worried about just seem so trivial. Once there was more character development along with more characters introduced, the story became much better. I am glad I stuck through it, because now that it's finished, I feel completely whole. This story had everything, heartache, mystery, suspense, fun, vicariously traveling through Italy, & experiencing a different culture was a huge perk! I believe Jenna Evans Welch has serious talent, and will definitely read her second book love & luck - which is a story about Lena's best friend; who you briefly get some story on in this book.

I hope that the author steps out of her comfort zone and writes in different genres or for older age groups. I think she has a lot of potential to be more diverse.

You should definitely read this, I believe it's worth the credit!
