Funny, cozy, suoer sweet

I love this book just as much when I read it the first time. The characters are so fun and unique, the story is sweet, and it made me want to go to Japan that much more.

Cute Trip To Kyoto City

If you really want to visit Kyoto City in Japan this book will be perfect for you, I didn't expect to finish it this fast but it was enjoyable as a abroad trip book, but there was barely any story in it
The plot is about Kimi, a girl who is trying to find her true passion and to discover herself so she knows which college to apply to, so she travels to her Japanese grandparents who lives in Kyoto and there she will discover more that she realize
I enjoyed the sights and the trip guided by Akira .. specially the last temple where they view the whole city, nice book if you want to waste some time on a book that has no drama but aesthetic feel

The narrator was good she gave the feels good enough

A bit dull with a lousy timing.

Kimi Nakamura is supposed to love art and to become an artist just like her mother. But she soon realizes at the beginning of the story that she no longer has a passion for it and did she ever really feel like that passionate about it? Or was it just her mothers dreams? She loves a good fashion statement. She's obsessed with transforming everyday ephemera into Kimi Originals: bold outfits that make her and her friends feel like the Ultimate versions of themselves. But her mother disapproves and they have a big fight.

Kimi then decides to go visit her Grandparents for the first time in Japan. This is unknown territory for Kimi and she is there to find herself. What she finds there she cannot believe. Love, hope, her dreams, and future all in one.


This book really didn't do it for me. One thing I can say is I wasn't into Kimi's friends. I wanted them out of the picture and so glad they weren't the main characters. Another thing was the fact of how long it took Kimi to realize her dream and goals on what she wanted to do with her life after high school. It felt like we knew it but she was staring at it in the face and not seeing it until the last 20 pages of the book. Ridiculous. Having her have a relationship during her Spring Break when she has to go home at some point was kinda dumb because of course that has "Falling in Love" all over it. Then what? She goes home and he says then they have to work on a long distance thing? Or he purposes too her wayyyyy to early? Those endings both suck. So yeah it so was just an okay read. Glad I read it for a reading challenge. The prompt was "Read a book set in Japan, host of the 2020 Olympics"....

this book was so cute but it taught some life lessons about self-discovery forgiveness, love, and going head first towards your dreams!

A wonderful adventure

I was so excited to read this book after reading the synopsis and it was a great decision to get it! The writing is so vivid that I can clearly imagine myself revisiting Kyoto and all the places Kimi went to while listening to her journey. The characters are relatable and I just love the overarching theme of the story.

Akira is also a great character but quite realistically, the way his lines flowed and how the narrator portrayed him felt a bit of a stretch for any Japanese man. But, there are always exceptions and I still think he had soul to him.

The interaction between the characters is so natural and entertaining. They all felt like people. I felt the pain she felt during and after that moment with her mother in the art room, the awkwardness I felt in the early stages of my relationship with my first love and even that “good itch” Kimi was talking about after.

I will never look at mochi the same way after the story. I recommend!
