Publisher's Summary

What is self-esteem? A type of confidence? Or something far greater? In Self-Esteem, Caroline Myss casts a new light on this often misunderstood subject, redefining self-esteem as an actual core power that is essential to our evolutionary progress. In fact, Myss teaches, your potential for success in life is determined by how greatly you esteem or value who you truly are. Beginning with a look at its roots in childhood, and branching into the real world of daily experience including finances, relationships, and spirituality, Myss illustrates the incredible changes that come when we nourish this life-giving force. Building on her revolutionary best sellers Anatomy of the Spirit and Sacred Contracts, Myss explores:
  • How your strong self-esteem threatens other people - and why you must strengthen it anyway.
  • How your intuition, spiritual guidance, self-healing capacity, and your self-esteem all depend on each other.
  • Plus, special guided exercises for cultivating healthy, vibrant self-esteem, available only on this audio session, and much more.

"How would your life change if your self-esteem improved?" Myss asks. Now you can find out, with this energetic template for radiating the quiet power of your own self-esteem.

VERBAL & MENTAL SPAGHETTI. Waste of time & money

I was extremely disappointed with this "book" (which turned out not to be a book at all). It's a live recording of a Self-Esteem seminar. I would probably have been ok with that format if it were organized in a very efficient and effective way but unfortunately it isn't. She might be using notes to make sure she covers all the topics but the continuity is terrible. If you've heard the comparison between people that think like a spaghetti noodle and those that think like waffles, you will understand what I mean. Each point is laced into a mesh of diverging and converging thoughts which makes it very difficult to build a mental strategy for dealing with low self-esteem. Most of the audio is spent just "talking" about the fact that people suffer from low self esteem. The benefit of the traditional book format is completely lost in this seminar version but to be honest, the content is so weak that a "book" format probably wouldn't have helped.

To make matters worse, when the moment finally arrived to actually DO something to improve self-esteem, you're given a very short (15 minute) exercise instruction. It was like digging three feet into the ground to recover a peanut. NOT recommended!

Maybe a little too simple. Can be helpful.

Would you ever listen to anything by Caroline Myss again?

I found her stories entertaining but this book is a bit boring and too simple for me. I understand and know all the things she talks about. I thought this book would dive deeper instead of just touching the surfaces.

    Condescending "self help"

    What disappointed you about Self-Esteem?

The author is condescending and self important in the extreme.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not anything by her.

What didn’t you like about Caroline Myss’s performance?

She rambles on and on and assures listeners that she knows everything because she spoken about the topic "like a thousand times before." It's really unprofessional.

Slow talker, mostly fluff-not meaty in content

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

people who have never done any personal development

What could Caroline Myss have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

talked faster, it was a little insulting with all the unecessary pauses while listening to fluff. i'd understand if there was a chunky concept, but all in all not made very interesting, and assumptions stated as facts -not intelligent

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Self-Esteem?

    entier first and second chapter

    Any additional comments?

track skipped some content in first/second chapter

    4 Hours of pure torture

OMG this is terrible! This lady drones on for over 4 hours of sleep inducing vagueness. She tries to over explain everything to the point where she makes no sense at all, and appears to lose her train of thought constantly. Her nasally voice is so annoying it is torture to listen to. She is in a world of her own, like someone on LSD... as you listen to her, you keep asking yourself WTF?

I think my self esteem and self respect is lower now because I allowed myself to get ripped off. Walk away (if not run) from this one. I hate the fact that self serving people like this author (and I use the term loosely) are even in business.

Good one, could have been better

The book started quite well, focussing on key points as well as ended as well quite well, focussing on what one must do i.e. action items, however the middle portion went into meditation, new age stuff , which was a bit fuzzy to follow.

    To the point.

Caroline is not afraid to ask you to ask yourself the hard questions and she is there to help you if you are not very happy with your answers. This is a content rich and life-enhancing presentation--highly recommended.

The BEST Book/Recording on Self Esteem EVER.

I've read so many books & listened to so many tapes on the subject, and this is the first one that really told me what to do about low self esteem and how to raise it up. I've recommended this to everyone I know who might even be slightly interested. In my case, it's changed how I act in the world and how I interact with myself. Priceless. Thank you Carolyn, is all I can say!!!!!!!!!

    Wonderful

Definitely a must for the frustrated and worn weary of the self-help, make-me-feel-good-about-myself books that are out there ... this is the one. A rewinder, over and over again.

A great listen for those ready to change.

I have enjoyed this a great deal. She casts self esteem in a whole new light and encourages you to do more than listen and hope that things will change. Take her suggestions and watch yourself grow. Just one simple thing like- keeping your word to yourself is making all the difference for me. I keep my word when I commit to something for others in my life but I'm pretty good at sabataging myself. That simple concept was a light bulb moment for me.

    Made me feel worse!

    Any additional comments?

This is ANOTHER waste of my time and money. Maybe some people will find this useful (i can't think who tho...) but for me it was just a completed cliched repeat of the same old nonsense we have all heard a million times before. Self-esteem issues are not so simple as they make out. Sorry but hated it, waste of time.
