Publisher's summary
Stan Weir is mourning a tragic loss when he meets a mysterious nine-year-old girl, who claims to be the reincarnated spirit of his late wife. Marcy Keef is a single mother trying to make ends meet when her daughter Erin starts describing 'past life memories'. Neither wants to believe Erin, but as violent secrets are revealed, the truth becomes harder to deny.
With echoes of Stephen King, Second Skin is a propulsive thriller about grief, guilt and truths better left unknown.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

CORRUPT FILE! DOES NOT DOWNLOAD!
After repeated attempts, during which Audible literally seems about to blow chunks after this download HANGS - unplayable at 2.4 MBs, I've reported the error twice. I've also permitted the unplayable file to reach a nearly complete download, which resumes after a lengthy interval. I am then informed of a FILE ERROR(!). I've done *this* twice, again with the same results. I really DID want to listen to this book...

Good short listen
I don’t know if this was free or a bargain, but either way it was a good deal. An engaging story and good narrator. I ran out of credits because of extra time for listening during walks while dealing with the Covid-29 quarantine situation and selected this because it was either free or inexpensive. It was too short to be worth using a credit for, but I did enjoy it. Might look for this author and narrator again.
