Publisher's summary
From UK bestselling author Gillian McAllister comes an astonishing, compulsively twisty psychological thriller about a mother who witnesses her teenage son stab a man and then seizes on an unconventional way to try to save him, deemed “perfection, every word, every moment” by Lisa Jewell.
Can you stop a murder after it’s already happened?
Late October. After midnight. You’re waiting up for your seventeen-year-old son. He’s late. As you watch from the window, he emerges, and you realize he isn’t alone: he’s walking toward a man, and he’s armed.
You can’t believe it when you see him do it: your funny, happy teenage son, he kills a stranger, right there on the street outside your house. You don’t know who. You don’t know why. You only know your son is now in custody. His future shattered.
That night you fall asleep in despair. All is lost. Until you wake . . .
. . . and it is yesterday.
And then you wake again . . .
. . . and it is the day before yesterday.
Every morning you wake up a day earlier, another day before the murder. With another chance to stop it. Somewhere in the past lies an answer. The trigger for this crime—and you don’t have a choice but to find it . . .

Love this book!
I've listened to a lot of great books lately, and this one is no exception. The story was creative, and original, and the suspense was exciting. As the story unfolded and each clue was revealed I kept trying to put it all together and figure out the whole plot, but there were constantly new revelations that I hadn't considered, which continued to keep me on my toes. This unpredictability made it even more exciting. I was entertained from beginning to end! I highly recommend this book!

Great story
I loved this book. Don’t listen to the reviews about “getting too political”. There is literally one mention of an American politician in a negative light, which is by far less then what you would see on the news. Anyone who is offended by that small segment of the book must have some extreme sensitivity that affects their ability to enjoy a fiction story. The book and it’s narrator we’re very good. The story was unique and interesting.

Finally!
This is probably the most enjoyable book I’ve read/listened to in years. I finished it in one day, couldn’t turn it off. It grabbed me from the very first chapter and it kept me invested until the very last. It reminds me of The Time Traveler’s Wife, which is one of my all time favorite books, but I love how this author focuses on the dynamic between mother and son for so much of the story.

Not just a great mystery....
By itself this was a great suspense story that held my attention from the first sentence to the last. I love this book, though, for the author's ability to communicate both the emotional devastation and joy in being a parent seamlessly within the story. I'm a working mom to three teenage boys, and I'm not sure I've ever connected to a character's feelings about motherhood so strongly, which was surprising to find in this type of fiction. Highly recommend!!!

ignore the whiners...
i can't believe how sensitive they are and they call they left snowflakes. whine whine whine. anyway, the book is very good but i will warn you.. you must pay close attention or i had to. it's hard to follow with lots of characters and that weird time thing. i has a hard time but i enjoyed it nonetheless. its not political, as is their RIGHT the characters express their opinion which is maybe two lines in a long story. don't pass this up because you are part of the cult.

Unnecessary politics but good story
I enjoyed this book very much but absolutely agree with previous reviewers about the political comments. they were 100% unnecessary. regardless of which aisle you are on or echo chamber you are in, throwing in cheap jabs against a politician (that’s not even your country’s politician) is exactly that...cheap...and low brow.
makes me hesitate to read anymore from this author

Henry at Work invites listeners to rethink how we work today by exploring an aspect of Henry David Thoreau that has often been overlooked: Thoreau the worker. John Kaag and Jonathan van Belle overturn the popular misconception of Thoreau as a navel-gazing recluse who was scornful of work and other mundanities. In fact, Thoreau worked hard—surveying land, running his family's pencil-making business, writing, lecturing, and building his cabin at Walden Pond—and thought intensely about work in its many dimensions.

Story
Henry at Work invites listeners to rethink how we work today by exploring an aspect of Henry David Thoreau that has often been overlooked: Thoreau the worker. John Kaag and Jonathan van Belle overturn the popular misconception of Thoreau as a navel-gazing recluse who was scornful of work and other mundanities. In fact, Thoreau worked hard—surveying land, running his family's pencil-making business, writing, lecturing, and building his cabin at Walden Pond—and thought intensely about work in its many dimensions.

Story
It’s the mid-'90s. Grunge and flannel are fading as the Spice Girls and Hot Topic conquer the malls. Cherry gloss glistens on the lips of the youth. Modems hiss as America comes online. And in a fog-drenched cove at the edge of New England, something terrible awakens when a fisherman reels in a gruesome catch: the remains of a young woman. Remains still pulsing with furious life.
