Publisher's Summary

Tormented her entire life by inhuman voices, Jennsen seeks to end her intolerable agony. She at last discovers a way to silence the voices. For everyone else, the torment is about to begin.

Richard Rahl and his wife, Kahlan, have been reunited after their long separation, but with winter descending and the paralyzing dread of an army of annihilation occupying their homeland, they must venture deep into a strange and desolate land. Their quest turns to terror when they find themselves the helpless prey of a tireless hunter.

Exploited by those intent on domination, Jennsen finds herself drawn into the center of a violent struggle for conquest and revenge. Worse yet, she finds her will seized by dark forces more abhorrent than anything she ever envisioned. Only then does she come to realize that the voices were real.

Staggered by loss and increasingly isolated, Richard and Kahlan desperately struggle to survive. But if they are to live, they must stop the relentless, unearthly threat that comes out of the darkest night of the human soul. To do so, Richard will be called upon to face the demons stalking among the Pillars of Creation.

Epic edge: listen to more in the Sword of Truth series.

    "Favorite SOT book so far."

Although it has the least appearances of Richard and Khalan, still one of my favorite so far. I just wish OBA suffered more!!!!!

    Story
    "Uncomfortable story, repetitive ending. "

(Don't worry, no spoilers!) I love the idea of another back story to help flesh out the SOT universe, but 90% of this story is just either grotesque or uncomfortable, with very little emotional respite for the reader. If you have read the rest of the series, you'll spend a lot of time *wanting* to care about some of these newer characters, but being unable to because they are on the "wrong side." So, I didn't really get attached to anyone and thus my "personal investment" was low for such a long book. Then, the last 90 minutes or so feel like Goodkind realized he needed to tie things up before his deadline, and all the characters are suddenly in exposition mode. The big climax happens, reason and rationality wins out as always, and in an instant, characters who had technically been at odds for their entire lives are suddenly best buds. Also, one very important character's death really feels like an afterthought in order to clear the way for another thread to begin. One of the main characters is highly traumatized and mentally ill from lifelong abuse, and had become dangerous for reasons explained in the book. This tragedy is not addressed properly by the end and frankly is a gaping hole in the "reason and rationality" thread of SOT. I'm glad for the purpose of the story, but not so much in how it was done.

I am spellbound by the story. Enraptured by the narration and thoroughly in love with the characters. I can hardly wait to purchase the next book.

"Suffering through Jim Bond. Strange story"
What disappointed you about The Pillars of Creation?

59 chapters of build up for a 1 chapter 'Meh' ending.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Imagine Marvin the Manic Depressive Robot reading for Audible.

    Any additional comments?

Goodkind has offered us a poor man's Atlas Shrugged (if you value it by the word). I am a fan of the idea but there is little subtlety to the presentation. I will keep reading the series. I am the pig, committed.

    "no more Jim Bond"

This story is so slow and boring. It's made worse by Jim Bond. His monotonous voice and bland reading makes this book unbearable. I'm done with the series as I see he narrates more. the first 5 or so books I loved. Time to move on. Plots are way to slow and to many speeches.

    "It was bit boring"
Would you try another book from Terry Goodkind and/or Jim Bond?

Story too long to pick. Maybe by the last three chapters when the main characters came back. Narrator was a bit monotone, made me sleepy. I'm hoping book 8 picks things up a bit.

    "Unexpected disappointment"

This series has been gripping and adictive for me so far, but I did not enjoy this book. I struggled through it so that I could move on to the next one. Very little of the main characters. The best advice I can give is to not keep wondering when Richard will turn up, as I did, as it is not until near the end..

What made the experience of listening to The Pillars of Creation the most enjoyable?

I like how more characters are introduced and they all seem to be related a great addition to the story

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Pillars of Creation?

Finding out the characters special ability was not having magic

    Any additional comments?

keep reading the other books it worth it

    "Struggle"

If I hadn't invested in 6 books up to this point I would have returned this book, although the story wasn't awful it wasn't on par with the previous books. For the most part Goodkind ignores the majority of his main characters introducing new ones that I struggled to either like or loathe. Hoping that in future books he returns to the usual suspects!

    "Great listen"

If you've read or listened to the starting books you'll know you want to read some more, personally I found the reading better than the listening, but these are still a great listen if you don't have the hours and hours to spend reading the books.

Less Richard and Kahlan in this book but still a good listen, I was a bit unimpressed with the lead girl but I think her character fits really well with the story of her life.

I found this book to be the worst in the series so far. It was quite repetitive in many parts which dragged the whole experience out. In all the most forgettable in the series!

    "Another classic from Terry"

I agree with the other reviewer that this book could be missed in the series yet you would be left wondering how the Jensen character came to be. In it's own right the book is a great sub-plot. You are left wondering quite often if only she had known this or that or been privvy to that information she could have stopped what happened. Yet how was she to know. Yes the book is about Jensen mostly but it goes along at a good pace and I didn't have to slog through it like some of the earlier books.
