Publisher's Summary

Few people survive the suffering that Kael Symes has experienced. Hot steel, demonic magic, and the loss of those he loved.

After escaping the horrors of Arkum Zul, Kael and his companions survive a terror-filled night on the ocean only to find themselves shipwrecked and stranded in the Wildlands. With forest tribals on the warpath and old enemies roaming the forest, Kael struggles to come to terms with what he is slowly becoming - a killer. A DeathWizard.

In the fight against the evil that threatens to consume him, Kael learns that the Dwarven Mountains far to the north may hide an ancient monolith that holds the answer to the corruption that flows in his veins.

But trekking across Talohna is a dangerous prospect. It is a world that holds its secrets close. The cost of uncovering them may very well be his soul and, quite possibly, his life.

Good wtiting Bad book

I want to say this book is really great I really do the writings well done and the story is good but the author seems to want to use so many clifhangers the book becomes impossible to read. I would gladly read this book if literally, he wrote one line differently.

This book is incredibly infuriating the entire permise of the book seems to be the MC dealing with prejudice and whatnot but the author dangles a massive clifhanger over you for the entire two books so what might have been amazeing turns into a really infuriating book about the MC failing to find his wife or even learn shes alive when he could learn for some magical reason one of the characters happens to be in the way and stop him I wouldn't mind it so much if it didnt feel like it was just the author teasing the reader his wife has an ability to dream walk and straight up told him she was alive through dreams but for some reason he believes that his wife is dead even though their entire backstory says even on the most faint hope he would believe she was alive not only that but his wife can teleport and she never once seems to try teleporting to him.

this book is frustrating.

Kael is always one step away from finding his wife, even though he thinks she's dead. this book is frustrating, freaking frustrating. oh my God she's not dead.

Good narration for a terrible story.

The MC can't seem to stay consistent in his behavior throughout book 1 and 2. Constantly changing how he behaves; but not in a character development type of way. The author leaves cliffhanger after cliffhanger never resolving anything. You are constantly going between perspectives of other characters that are written in such a way that you don't like any of them. yet you will need the information to understand whats going on. Just no; a waste of time. this book is a Hard Pass.

Wow!!!

Mr Franx truly knows his way around world building, and seems to be a burgeoning master “spinner of plates” not letting his many sub plots fall and break.

As an author myself, I can sincerely appreciate the power one’s pen wields over the lives of their characters, and that sometimes you kill a character to further the plot. My sincerest hope is that Mr. Franx doesn’t follow too closely in The grand master of character killers, Mr. Martin. One author killing all the cool characters is plenty.

Fantastic read. Can’t wait for the next book.

so much better than the first book. it was not linear and was my favorite thing. I will recommend it if you don't want to read first book.

Simon Vance is marvelous as ever

The story is ok. Good premise and some great ideas but inexperienced writing let's it down. The characters do inexplicable things to advance the plot, and there are too many 'oh if only he/she knew what was really going on' moments and silly unfortunate coincidences. Still, I'll read the next one I think. Oh. And Simon Vance. He can read me the phone book.

Very Frustrating! Parts are really well done<br />

As others have indicated the over use of coincidental non encounters is way over done

just like the fist one i loved it.

This book grips you from the first page. You can roughly figure out where the story's headed but in no way predict how it'll get there! At every juncture you will be filled with lots of questions but continually satisfied with the ongoing story

i could not stopp l listen to it

One of my fav series right now

so Good, hopefully the next one is coming soon. The story progresses at a good pace. Some characters are easy to hate but they make the story more complete
