Publisher's Summary

For Fox, Caleb, Gage and the other residents of Hawkins Hollow, the number seven portends doom - ever since, as boys, they freed a demon trapped for centuries when their blood spilled upon The Pagan Stone.

Their innocent bonding ritual led to seven days of madness, every seven years. And now, as the dreaded seventh month looms before them, the men can feel the storm brewing. Already they are plagued by visions of death and destruction. But this year, they are better prepared, joined in their battle by three women who have come to The Hollow. Layla, Quinn, and Cybil are somehow connected to the demon, just as the men are connected to the force that trapped it.

Since that day at The Pagan Stone, town lawyer Fox has been able to see into others' minds, a talent he shares with Layla. He must earn her trust, because their link will help fight the darkness that threatens to engulf the town. But Layla is having trouble coming to terms with her newfound ability - and this intimate connection to Fox. She knows that once she opens her mind, she'll have no defenses against the desire that threatens to consume them both.

    "Creepy but good"

Creepy used to be one of my favorite genres before I somehow wimped out and couldn't take it anymore. But, this one had just enough creep factor without creeping me out. Totally enjoyed this series. Listened to all 3, but got the other two from my local library. I liked Phil Gigante in the first book. I would have preferred the same narrator for all 3. But, it didn't kill the series for me, so I guess it was ok.

"GETS BETTER AS THE STORY GOES"

I THINK THE NARRATOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MALE ON THIS ONE. I THINK IF THE MAIN CHARACTERS ARE MALE, THE NARRATOR SHOULD BE AS WELL. THIS NARRATOR DOES OK AT THE BEGINNING, BUT SHE GETS BETTER AS THE BOOK GOES ALONG. SHE TRIES TO HARD ON THE MAIN FEMALE CHARACTER MAKING HER SOUND WEAK, BUT LIKE I SAID, IT GETS BETTER AS THE STORY GOES.

    "Enjoyed it"

I would definitely recommend this book. The story is interesting and dark with romance wrapped in a pretty bow. It does to get a bit over zealous with the back story and analysis of the situation, but all in all good.

Dislikes: I guess my only dislike is Layla's character. Her whiny disposition was aggravating and annoying throughout book 1 and 2.

    "The Story is worth reading."

Overall, I am disappointed. I so wanted to love this. The characters built in book one fell flat here. This was mostly because of the narrator. Multiple times I considered getting the e-book because I couldn't stand it for another second. Leighla's New York accent, gone. Guage became some weird pretty boy (based on voice). Simply put, the adult characters were not well developed and the narrator made it 60 times worse by confusing voices and lack of urgency in active dialogs.

I really did like the story line, but there could have been SO MUCH more detail about the journal and the way the group figured out what needed to be done. It almost felt like an outline that was never filled in with the details.

I will read the 3rd book because I'm hooked to the story and there are many unanswered questions.

The Dark Witch series by Nora Roberts was rich in detail, so if you like this type of story line, check that out as well.

    "Something wicked this way comes"
If you could sum up The Hollow in three words, what would they be?

    It is coming.

What other book might you compare The Hollow to and why?

The other books in the trilogy: Blood Brothers and Pagan Stone.

With the three women now settling into the Hollow until the Seven, it is Layla more than the others who is at loose ends--until she's bulldozed into stepping into the newly vacant role of office manager for Fox O'Dell's law office. Fox, one of the men who'd unwittingly unleashed the demon back when they were kids. Fox, with whom Layla shares the uncomfortable ability to read minds. Fox, who Layla is more attracted to than she wants to be. And as things with the demon ramp up earlier and harder than ever before, both Fox and Layla have to decide what to do about the passion building between them.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Don't think I can pick just one

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    The Hollow: Eternal Battleground.

    Any additional comments?

A negative to this trilogy is that each book in it is narrated by a different reader (male, female, male, respectively). Little to no effort was made to keep the "sound" of each character's speech at all consistent from one reader to the next.

"Solid Nora Roberts, poor narrator choice."

This is a classic Nora Roberts trilogy. If you liked her other fantasy-themed trilogies, you should enjoy this story. It has a bit more of a horror feel to it than some of the others, but it keeps the romance as well.

My problem is with the narration. The female voices by this actor are truly awful. Quinn sounds too high and flighty with enough upward tones at the end of each phrase that she sounds as if everything she says is a question. Cal has a vaguely southern accent, which would be fine if that accent was consistent, as all three men were born in the same town and grew up together. Instead, Fox sounds like an adolescent west coast surfer and Gage is deep-voiced and just not believable. The strange voices and inflections make the conversations between the characters feel awkward and stilted and it drove me nuts.

I usually re-listen to my audio books every few years. For this one, I will stick to a Kindle version.

"Better than the first of this series"
If you could sum up The Hollow in three words, what would they be?

    Nice little drama.

What other book might you compare The Hollow to and why?

The Hollow compares with other Paranormal trilogies of Nora's. I like them. They're fun reads.

Have you listened to any of Marie Caliendo’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I enjoyed Marie Caliendo's performance in this book. She brought the characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I always enjoy the fight scenes. Anytime the heroes are in danger. Although I know none of them will die, really, it is still thrilling.

    "The "performance" is distracting"

I LOVE The Hollow series. I thought the reader for book one made Layla sound a little goofy but THIS reader makes them all sound like morons and the character voices are all quite juvenile. Quinn sounds like a character from an 80's cartoon like Jem and the Holograms. She can't make a man sound like a man and it's hard to tell who's supposed to be talking a lot of the time. It's really difficult to listen to. I keep fast forwarding during general conversation because this lady's reading style is quite grating. The intimate scenes are a complete joke as she talks like a teenage girl reading a stolen dirty magazine at a slumber party. I really hope there's a different "performer" for the 3rd book.

    "Nora Roberts winner"

As usual Nora Roberts writes a great story full of rich characters, friendship, and family. We met these characters in book one, but this time we get to know them better because it is their story. We also get to hear from other characters from book one, the town people we met before and the characters that will star in book three. This narrator is better than book one, although I woulld prefer all three in a series was done by the same person, it is a good thing in this case that it is a different person.

    "The Hollow"

This is the second book in Nora Robert's Sign Of Seven Trilogy. The six main characters introduced in the first book continue to research their own history and that of their enemy, searching for a weak point in the demon's defences. Meanwhile, they are plagued by a series of incidents and time is running out for them. The final climax certainly looks as though it will be interesting.

    "One of her weaker trilogies"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The context of an historical witch-burning is hard to carry forward into the swirling-blood and boiling water in the woods context. . . or is it just that I suddenly found myself in the wrong genre? Despite this, Roberts does characters with such ease, and there are three nice couples involved here, each with their own personality, as developed throughout the series.
