Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a novel of love, friendship, and family in Book One in the Bride Quartet.

Wedding photographer Mackensie "Mac" Elliot is most at home behind the camera, but her focus is shattered moments before an important wedding rehearsal when she bumps into the bride-to-be's brother...an encounter that has them both seeing stars.

A stable, safe English teacher, Carter Maguire is definitely not Mac's type. But a casual fling might be just what she needs to take her mind off bridezillas. Of course, casual flings can turn into something more when you least expect it. And Mac will have to turn to her three best friends—and business partners—to see her way to her own happy ending.

Bad Narration

I read this series and looked forward to listening to it. This narrator ruined the story. One voice and a lisp too! - I am glad to see the narrator was changed for the 2nd and 3rd book in the series so I am looking forward to hearing those. I recommend reading the paper copy and skipping this audio.

Romance okay, narrator stinks!

The story is okay but not one of Nora Robert's best. The narrator really killed it for me. She has a lisp and I'm not sure why they would have someone with a lisp narrate a book - it was very distracting. The characters were not as developed and you didn't feel the attraction between them like I have in other NR books.

This is the first in a series and if the same narrator does future books I won't be purchasing them. Save your credits/money.

Not so much

Never listened to Nora Roberts before- not sure if this inspired me to buy more although I have heard they can be addictive. Trying not to be offensive but the narrator's lisp is very distracting and each character has the same voice- not distinction and everything is said in a sing-song, high school way. Really wanted to like the story but its just to hard to get past the narrator.

Narrator is great!

I put off buying this book many times because of what others said about the narrator, but I finally bit the bullet and got it. It was great! I didn't notice any kind of speech issue. The narrator is at least as good as others I've heard, and better than some. And, of course, with a Nora Roberts book, you can't go wrong. I enjoyed the second book more, but I like this narrator better. Either way, I say go ahead and download the series!

Surprised at Nora Roberts

I wait for all of Nora`s books including JDRobb/I do alot of driving. The reader of this book is very hard to listen. She appears to have a lisp so all of the characters have it as well
so if the reader is important to you do what i am doing buying a hard copy.

just ok:(

I am sorry I bought this one. I haven't finished it yet. I have had it for at least 6 days and it keeps putting me to sleep. I think the other reviewer whose title is boring pretty much covers it. Get it from the library, don't waste your time or just wait until it is given to you. I really like Nora Roberts and the fact that her book are usually totally different. Not a punch out, change the names, put it in the same area books. I think she may have phoned this one in. Oh well can't all be home runs. Just didn't want to spend 17 dollars on a foul ball.

Worst. Narrator. Ever.

I can handle almost any narrator, but this one takes the cake as the worst. All the male voices were made to sound like idiots and all the females came off as just silly. The narration was so overwhelmingly bad the story was completely ruined. The Bride Quartet is a good change of pace to have a Nora Roberts series that stuck straight to the romance, without crime or supernatural (although I enjoy those as well).

so-so

Not the best of the genre, quite predictable and unoriginal. The narration was at times just boring.

Enchanting Professor McGuire :)

I had no problem with the narrator. This is a simple romance and as far as I was concerned was a fun listen, requiring little sophistication in narration. The romance in this first book of a quartet was very enjoyable and Carter, the man in this first romance was charming, vulnerable but very self assured about what he wanted in Mac.
No surprises in this series but fun listens and fun character development. Will never be recommended reading from a scholarly perspective but I have enjoyed listening a few times.

I loved the narrator!

I love all of Nora's books but seeing some of the reviews for the narrator Emily Durante, I was hesitant. Well I loved her! She made the characters come alive and I could just "see" them as if they were in the room with me. Great job!

Not bad, but one for the girls!

This isn't a bad story, although it dwells rather lovingly on the wedding design side of things, so if you're not interested in what makes a girl's wedding dreams come true, you might struggle (as I did!). It's essentially a straightforward love story, and while I did want to shake the heroine a couple of times, the hero is a star. It's also quite funny at times.
I can't download this in the new Enhanced format (my ipod nano is too old) and the quality, at the highest I could get, was poor, bassy and slightly fuzzy. I got used to it, but these audio books aren't cheap, and should be easy to listen to.
Anyhow, if you like a nice love story, with no nasty baddies or serious catastrophes strewn in the path of true lurve, then give this a go.

Disappointing

I have been an avid reader of Nora Roberts' books for many years. However I struggled to finish this one. I just didn't like her heroine and the hero, for me, didn't match up to her usual standard. Very disappointing.

Awful

I am a huge Nora Roberts fan, but this is awful I’m afraid. I’ve not been able to finish the book. There is no real substance to the story and the characters seem to lack any depth for me. The narration too, is terrible.

Not Nora Robert’s best book

This book was so light and fluffy, it almost didn’t exist. It will be intersting to see if the rest of the series develops the characters, and plot with more depth.

Horrible narrator!!!

Would you try another book written by Nora Roberts or narrated by Emily Durante?

Nora Roberts, yes. Emily Durante, never in a million years. How can she have passed test by Brilliance Audio? Surely someone listens to the people before they hire them?!? Awful just awful,

What did you like best about this story?

The syory is typical Nora Roberts, not her best, but quite good.

How could the performance have been better?

Get someone who can speak English! Narrator sounds either like she's deaf, severely mentally slow, or has recently learnt the English language. She overpronounces every word, the women sound like silly, little children, and the men sound like comical baboons!

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story is good, the narrator is the most awful I've ever heard, and I listen to about 20 books/year

Any additional comments?

Whatever you do, stay away from this book! Get the paperversion

Pleasant Romanticism

Written to the tried and tested Mills and Boons Style formula this is a contemporary romance about four friends who play weddings a children and grow up to run their own wedding planning company as adults. The characters were believeable. It might not be literature but it is reasonably well written and a highly enjoyable fun read. Wholesome reading for a pleasant escape.

Narrator does a decent job.

AUDIBLE REVIEW
Love listening to this series and the narrator is decent.
But boy, doesn’t Mackensie’s mother Linda really come across as the most horrible, self-centred person in the world.
I really hated Linda every time I read this story but I hated Linda more in audible.
It also shows even more how Mackenzie enabled this behaviour and how long it took for her to grow a spine.
Carter is just so cute and I want to marry him too.
BOOK REVIEW
Lovely enjoyable read with likeable characters.
We are introduced to a small group of people who have grown up together. Four women who run a business together and two men. Only two are related by blood but family is more than just blood as this group show.
Loved the premise for this series and how well balanced these four women are and how they each have their niche in the business.
The beginning with them all as young girls playing weddings was sweet.
The support system they have for each other covered all moods, no matter how bitchy they act at times and then there was Mrs Grady the housekeeper/surrogate mum.
Mackenzie is so positive and strong with her photography but so weak when it comes to relationships. This is due to her b**ch of a mother who is a user and despicable.
Into this group comes Carter who is the quintessential professor. Bumbly, definitely not world wise. His friend Bob was funny with his helping!!!.
Carter is the brother of a bride and when he and Mackenzie first meet, well lets say, things collide.
How these two meet and fall is so cute and Carter was a wonderful support for Mac.
I just wish we had a bit more getting to know Carter.
Have reviewed twice before, as a single book and in the box set but reviews missing.

Feminine and pretty

I found it very pleasing , beautiful and girly.
The storyline flowed beautifully with a bit of romance, a bit of drama and of course love.
I found I was cheering for the schoolteacher and hating the mother and hoping the main character would get her life together and see what she had in front of her. I was captivated the whole way through. It took a little while for the different voices to make sense to me due to the performance of the Reader.
