Great book

I really loved this book, but I wish they offered the third book in this series Born in Shame. I might have to look elsewhere to purchase it.

Male voice

The difference between a good book and a really bad book is often the reader . It was very clever to pick a male voice with an Irish accent.

The Best Narrator for a Series

Would you consider the audio edition of Born in Fire to be better than the print version?

Yes - because Fiacre Douglas makes the books great.

What other book might you compare Born in Fire to and why?

This trilogy starts off without anything out of the ordinary - then in Born in Ice we start with whispers of memories of a time and place prior and a link to the land - but in Born in Shame it goes right out there with some circle of stone memories of past lives. So it may compare to other stories in that way - but to me the series stands on its own. Fire and Ice are my two favorites in the series - but what makes it a five star rating is the narrator. He makes it all work.

What about Fiacre Douglas’s performance did you like?

A tale told in Ireland where the characters sound like they belong. Strong lead men and woman characters performed equally and believably well. It is worth listening to his voice. He is my favorite male narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Hmmm...

Any additional comments?

Please - someone else select this great talent to perform your audio book. : )

Usually a huge fan

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not especially time well spent. The story was interesting, but meandered more than made much sense.

Would you recommend Born in Fire to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend some of Ms. Roberts other fiction, the Key, Circle, or Sign of Seven trilogies are better done and time better spent, in my opinion.

What does Fiacre Douglas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The pace of the narration was very good, it was more structural inadequacies I experienced than in the performance. His differentiation among characters was great.

Not Nora Roberts best work

I accidentally listened to book 2 of this trilogy, and book 2 is infinitely better. This is a simple romance novel with very few plot twists and no background mystery. I very mediocre romance at that.

Many have complained about the clipped tempo of the narrative when he is talking as the women. I’ve gotten used to it and didn’t find that distracting.
