Publisher's Summary

Her town’s lack of men may make headlines, but it isn’t news to Dakota Hendrix. The beautiful blonde has bigger problems to deal with, such as overseeing the romance reality competition filming in Fool’s Gold. Screening eligible bachelors is a difficult enough task, but Dakota hits an unexpected snag when a sexy stranger comes to town.

Finn Anderssen will do anything to keep his twin brothers — the perfect contestants — off the show. Despite Dakota’s better judgment, she finds herself drawn to the mysterious outsider. Like her, Finn knows about heartbreak and how a family can fall apart, so she doesn’t dare to hope for anything more than a fling. After all, even in the Land of Happy Endings, finding true love is never as easy as it looks on TV.

Entertaining. A fun read!

If you could sum up Only Mine in three words, what would they be?

A great escape!

What other book might you compare Only Mine to and why?

Susan Mallery books

Have you listened to any of Tanya Eby’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She always does a good job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The relationships between the women in these books are loving and caring. Endearing. They are not competitive and are basically stress-free. Just nice. Susan Mallery develops her characters very well, and the reader begins to like and care about them. It is comforting to know when you begin reading her books that all will end well.

Any additional comments?

My motive in reading these books is to enjoy a relaxing moment with a good book. I am not trying to learn anything by reading them. I just want to have a little fun, quiet time when I am alone.

The characters and the story line were my favorite so far.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters Dakota and Finn. They were easy to like and I was routing for them the whole time. I know her books and stories are predictable but I still enjoy them very much.

Sweet and entertaining!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Only Mine?

When Fin was trapped by the old lady and Dakota's mother at the market. He was doing a lot of squirming throught that conversation.

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I've read several reviews that bash Tanya Eby's performances and I just do not get it. She makes the stories interesting and brings the right amount of humor when needed. She is among my favorites that I like listening to tell the story the author wants to share. In fact I found Susan Mallery's books by searching for Tanya Eby's performances after listening to The Search.

Hate the narrator

The story is good (I think) and I would have normally given this 5 stars but the narrator is so bad I can only give it 3. She was so distracting with her strange pauses and bad voices that I could not enjoy the book. I will never download another book where Tanya Eby is the narrator she ruined it for me. Read this book, don't use a credit.

A continuation of a good story

I could wait to read the story of The ever studious Dakota. It happened like I thought it would but it was great hearing The story anyway.

I'm loving the Fools Gold Series

This book had kind of a strange plot, but in the end I got caught up emotionally in the story line.

Leaving Fool's Gold

What would have made Only Mine better?

I found the male protagonist to be too judgmental. It was bad enough that he was so quick to anger and disinclined to listen to anyone's opinion, but being so quick to judge and mean about it was just too much for me. I dislike snap judgements so he was hard for me to like.

Would you be willing to try another book from Susan Mallery? Why or why not?

Probably not unless it was a novella. I read "Almost Perfect" years ago, enjoyed it and decided to read the others. The books have been ok, but a bit tedious in their predictability. The characters go through a cycle of rehashing their feelings/issues, deciding they will/will not do something, going against the decision and then rehashing their feeling ad nauseum without seeming to grow. They justify their feelings and keep talking about not changing their ways/views/etc then suddenly they see the "light of love" and now their world view is different. It makes the books seem longer than they need to be and uninspired because you sit through hours of them going over and over their issue(s) until they realize they're in love without SEEING the progression in they're thinking. I know that it does work like that for some people, but besides "Almost Perfect" one or both of the characters are stuck in this emotional rut they don't leave until the end of the book, which makes listening a job instead of a joy.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Exasperation

Any additional comments?

It is a good story in general, but I was getting tired of the cookie cutter nature of the character's development in this series before I was presented with a male lead I just could not like so I won't be reading anymore, but for those looking for a romance with and good story, it may be worth a try.
