Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Susan Mallery is world renowned for her "insightful, funny, and poignant" stories (Booklist). With her brand-new Mischief Bay series, Susan brings to vivid color the story of three friends on the brink of a new life.

Nicole Lord wants to be a good wife, but there's a difference between being supportive and supporting her husband, who quit his job to write a screenplay she's never seen. He won't even help take care of their son, leaving Nicole to run the house and work full-time at her Mischief Bay Pilates studio. Can she say enough is enough without losing the man she loves?

Sacrificing a personal life for her career is how Shannon Rigg rose to become vice president in her firm, but she wonders now whether she made the right choice. An exciting new relationship with a great guy convinces her that it might not be too late--until he drops a bombshell that has her questioning whether she can have it all. And if she can, does she want it?

Although Pam Eiland has a beautiful house and a husband she adores, she feels...restless. She wonders who a stay-at-home mom becomes after the kids are grown. Finding sexy new ways to surprise her husband brings the heat and the humor back to their marriage, but when unexpected change turns her life upside down, she'll have to redefine herself. Again.

Through romance and heartbreak, laughter and tears, three very different women will discover that friends can become family, and that life is richer with sisters at your side.

slow

I enjoyed parts of this book but I felt it was slow to start then it got pretty good but then just came to an ending that left some of the ending out. what I mean is I feel some of the ending of some of the characters was dropped.

I wasn't real happy with this book.

Easy Listen

There were a few major twists, otherwise fairly predictable. Just a good story about three friends and what unfolds in their lives. Characters were very likeable. Really enjoyed the narrator.

Heart warming and well done!

Any additional comments?

Great audiobook!
Beautifully written story about three friends from different stages in life who face love and loss, death and rebirth. Sometimes they cope with humor, other times despair, but the story moves along at a great pace and I found myself driving or walking farther just to listen. I even sped it up, not out of boredom, but because I wanted to know what was going to happen.

These ladies lived through some of things I’ve survived in my own life and the emotions conveyed were very real and pretty much spot on. There are times when I laughed then thought I might cry in sympathy or thought “Yep, been there, done that.” Other times I wanted to scream, “Why don’t you say something!” or “Why did you do that?” they love each other through good and bad even though there are decades between them. Heartwarming and sometimes heart wrenching.

The Narration was very good. I will say the beginning was a little confusing as they introduced the characters. I think the voices were very similar, but once I got them straight- Natalie (30) - palates instructor, Pam (50) - Pooch owner and Shannon-CFO (40) - I was good to go. Their stories weave throughout the book so you do need to pay attention at the beginning of each chapter. The narrator did a superb job of voice inflection and captured the tone of not only what was being said, but how it was said.

This audiobook sat in my queue for several weeks before I opened it. Boy, am I glad I didn’t wait any longer!

Gets better along the way

I'm a big Susan Mallery fan, so perhaps this mediocre review has been biased due to higher expectations. I started it, lost interest, them came back to it weeks later. I stuck with it this time and found it a pleasant distraction.
As the three disparate characters and plot lines developed the story felt less like 3 stories whose pages got mixed up together and easier to jump between without losing interest. Each was a good story and the writing was otherwise the warm, witty, insightful style I love from SM.
It's definitely worth listening to, just be prepared to persevere through the beginning jumbled story jumping
