Publisher's summary

The California sunshine’s not quite so bright for three sisters who get dumped in the same week....

Finola, a popular LA morning-show host, is famously upbeat until she’s blindsided on live TV by the news that her husband is sleeping with a young pop sensation who has set their affair to music. While avoiding the tabloids and pretending she’s just fine, she’s crumbling inside, desperate for him to come to his senses and for life to go back to normal.

Zennie’s breakup is no big loss. Although the world insists she pair up, she’d rather be surfing. So agreeing to be the surrogate for her best friend is a no-brainer - after all, she has an available womb and no other attachments to worry about. Except...when everyone else, including her big sister, thinks she’s making a huge mistake, being pregnant is a lot lonelier - and more complicated - than she imagined.

Never the tallest, thinnest, or prettiest sister, Ali is used to being overlooked, but when her fiancé sends his disapproving brother to call off the wedding, it’s a new low. And yet Daniel continues to turn up “for support”, making Ali wonder if maybe - for once - someone sees her in a way no one ever has.

But side by side by side, these sisters will start over and rebuild their lives with all the affection, charm, and laugh-out-loud humor that is classic Susan Mallery.

And don’t miss the newest heartfelt tale of friendship and sisterhood from Susan Mallery, The Stepsisters!

Review

Overall a nice chic book with strong women, adversary, and a happy ending. My only major dislike was the speed of the audio reader. I ended up adjusting to 0.75 speed and it made all the difference.

Gambit of emotions.

Finola frustrated me, Zennie made me sad, Ali grew the most. While they each went through a different struggle, they each found a strength and contentment. A great listen.

Tough to listen to!

The storyline was what I expected but the narration killed me! She over enunciated so much that her voice sounded like a robot. I debated on quitting the book many times and only finished due to lack of another book on my phone. Listen to the sample before purchasing....

Narrator sounds like a robotic computer voice!

Very hard to listen to. The too "perfect" enunciation sounds like it's being read by a computer. Not a bad story tho! Narrator wrecked it for me!

Not a typical Susan Mallery

Just finished this stand alone novel from Susan Mallery about three sisters and how each of the sisters, with their unique personalities, deal with their own life crisis in the relationship department. Finola’s husband cheats, Zennie doesn’t feel the need to “couple up”, and Ali’s finance changes his mind about getting married just seven weeks before the wedding. Each sister has a lot to deal with and their mother is not very likable or supportive. Three or maybe even four stories in one left me wishing each was written separately. I felt this because the author was only able to scratch the surface and not go into much depth in developing the characters for the reader. I enjoyed the book but found myself wanting more. I also wanted to send their opinionated and judgemental mother to parenting classes and then make her apologize to her daughters over and over for years of being so unbearably self-centered.

Azzhool

Don't waste a credit. Storyline ok but I cannot get past the horrid narration. If she says "azzhool" one more time I'll return this without finishing it.

Great Story but HORRIBLE NARRATION! !

I struggled to keep listening and not return the book. I try not to bash a narrator, but to say this robotic sounding narration was bad is an understatement. I kept listening because the story was well written. This one is a"listen at your own risk".

Story full of highs and lows!!

It took me a day to make comments on this book because I really wasn't sure how to express my mixed emotions after listening to this book. I don't review every book I listen to...I have too many and while I've listened to this narrator before this is my first with this author.
I imagine the paper version was really good because I liked the story a lot. You have three sisters, who are as different as night, day and noon. The oldest could be described as selfish, the middle sister is very compassionate and the youngest very likeable yet full of insecurities. Interestingly, each sister experiences all within the same period of time something that impacts their lives causing a chain of events and the beginning of their respective life altering journeys.
The narration was very fast paced and is probably why I have these mixed emotions but I got sucked into the story and had to finish it.
Ultimately as these sisters, their friends, family and other characters take us on a road and path to love, some pain, some loss and lots of feelings, you can relate to some of their experiences and want to get to know them and want things to work out for them. There are some funny moments, heartbreaking moments and moments when you want to roll your eyes. But overall I did enjoy this very different yet engaging story. And yes, each sisters journey is a lesson of love, friendships and brings them together and ultimately closer.

Good story-bad narration

Good story line that kept me interested. It’s the only thing that got me past the choppy, computer like narration.
