Editorial reviews

Narrated with sensual slyness by Vanessa Chambers, Justice: New Species, Book 4 is the continued tale a genetically modified man who becomes leader of a new species; half human, half animal. A side-effect to this modification is that the man is now also the hottest hunk in the world. This man is Justice. And our protagonist, Jessie Dupree, can’t wait to get her hands all over him.

A steamy and erotic story that should be listen to for the sexy details, rather than perhaps the plot.

Publisher's summary

Justice North is the face of New Species. Seeing him up close makes Jessie’s heart race. He’s the ultimate alpha male - big, muscular, exotically beautiful… and dangerous. Of course he’s off limits. But then the sexy man purrs and all bets are off. Jessie Dupree is a mouthy, fiery human female who brings out the animal in Justice. She wants to show him how to relax, and he’s all for anything she wants to do, but Justice has sworn to protect his people and to take a Species mate.

He’s torn between the woman he wants and the oath he’s taken. Jessie knows a relationship between them probably won’t end well; heartbreak is inevitable. But that won’t stop her from freeing the wildness inside Justice and spending every moment she can steal wrapped around his hot body, making him roar with passion.

Justice and Jessie, what better couple

Love this one. Justice, being the head of the "New Species", is not only a great leader, but a very intelligent, sex, beautiful man (my imagination). Jessie is a tough little spit fire. She can protect herself, as well as any of those big men she works with. Being the fourth book, you would think that the author wouldn't be able to develop a different personality for another "New Species" character that is unique, but she has. The narrator does an excellent job of distinguishing between the characters. Loved this book. Again, Laurann, or the publisher, who decided to give us a preview of the next book with an entire chapter, knows how to sell books. I was planning on reading another author's book, but after hearing the first chapter of "Justice", I bought it and started it immediately. Now I have moved on to Brawn. Thx

Wow, great!

Laurann Dohner delivers. Audible please get us all 12 books in this series. Book 10 (Moon), Book 11 (True), and Book 12 (Darkness). I plan to listen to all of them. Vanessa Chambers is the voice of New Species. Great job!

It was awesome. These books just keep getting better and better. I just love the characters. Justice North is everything an alpha male should be.

Power Differential

Justice (H) is the New Species leader and a celebrity politician. He’s a decision maker, a media darling, and a lightning rod for anti-Species fanatics. Jessie (h) is a 'regular person', a member of a Species Retrieval Taskforce and senator’s daughter. Technically she's his subordinate.

I'll admit I was annoyed by the setup of this book. I don't like main female characters that act like tough little men. I don’t enjoy romance books where the couples are obsessed with their work and their own consequence, rather than each other. I didn’t like that Jessie was so lusty for Justice while he was either oblivious or busy. I thought their power differential was too in-your-face. It felt like an invisible woman tripping all over herself to get close to an ‘elite’ man.

But the plot thickens. And the romance really gets good when Justice realizes he's just as obsessed with Jessie. Their trysts are hot. Their fights are hotter. He refuses to take a human mate (for her own safety, for Species safety, and because of the bad optics of not choosing his ‘own kind’). But he's both driven to Jessie by mating fever, and repelled by the weight of his responsibilities. The push pull was AH-MAZING.

This book has the best action scenes of the series (because the h is badass). It's also the most emotionally angsty of the series so far. It has brief ow drama, heaps of male jealousy, and an hea. This is an (almost) perfect offering from Laurann Dohner.

They Just Keep Getting Better!

What did you love best about Justice?

His loyalty towards his people, even at cost to himself.

What did you like best about this story?

The Bar Squabbles/Fights between Justice and Jessie.

Have you listened to any of Vanessa Chambers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Vanessa Chambers does an excellent job with the character voices. Her narration has improved a great deal since the first book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Most definitely! It kept my attention, which is hard to do, lol.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next installment "Brawn". He only had a small role in this book, but he peaked my interest.

Great New Species romance!

I really enjoyed this audiobook a lot! This story is about Jessie Dupree, the female task force member who helps rescue New Species. She meets Justice North, the leader of the NS at Tammy and Valiant’s wedding when he saves her from an upset newly freed male. They spend an evening together and it ends up in bed. Then while Justice is making a speech, Jessie gets called away on a mission. Something unexpected happens and Jessie gets fired from the task force by her father, the Senator. Taking a new job at Homeland offered by Justice she’s happy they will get to see each other again. Except Justice has an idea stuck in his mind that he will only take another NS for a mate and this causes them a lot of problems. Narration was excellent.

Fun changling romance series

Any additional comments?

It's a fun light romance changeling series. A bit predictable - standard fluff, but most of these types are. Romances are always more fun when they involve lions & tigers & bears oh my! (Or shifters, vampires & other things that go bump in the night). What I'm waiting for is a hook up between one of the "amazon" female shifters & a shifter male, that might be interesting? I've listened to 1-4 & will continue the series if I can get them at a good price, not sure if I would buy the rest at full credits. Reminds me of The Breed series by Lora Leigh and a bit like the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. It's listed here as "Erotica" but I certainly wouldn't classify it as that. Yes, there are sex scenes but they're pretty run of the mill & don't occur that often. Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake Vampire/Shifter series gets way kinkier & I still wouldn't classify her as erotica either!

Love the book

Love the book and the other NS.
The only thing I would change is a male narrator for the NS male characters-the female performer doesn't sound good with the male voice.

Just-is great

Where does Justice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Out of all in this series it's the best narrated. Out of all audiobooks it's in the top 10.

What did you like best about this story?

I loves how you could almost feel along with the characters. I also likes how the narrator portrayed Justice. She did a good job of making him sound like the composed leader of the species.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Vanessa Chambers?

This narrator is getting better with each of the books in this series. She's finally starting to read the male species parts with the deep masculine tone I would expect from them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time, yes.
