Publisher's Summary

For most, a plane crash means the end of life. For Dusti Dawson, it's just the beginning...Dusti and her sister Batina survived the crash, thanks to a couple of brothers who are equal parts menacing and muscled. She'd be grateful...if they hadn't turned out to be delusional kidnappers, who believe Dusti's grandfather is some monstrous halfbreed creature bent on murder. Turns out Vampires, Lycans, and Gargoyles do exist - and they've been crossbreeding to form two hybrid races. Drantos, the man Dusti can't stop lusting after, is one of the most dangerous of all.

VampLycans Drantos and Kraven were sent to eliminate a threat to their clan. But when that threat turns out to be mostly human women, clueless of their lineage, plans change - especially after Drantos gets a taste of Dusti's blood. Now, he'll die to protect her. Even if that means walking away from everything he knows to keep her at his side.

Is her strong desire for Drantos reason enough to endure danger coming from all sides? Or should Dusti cut and run the first chance she gets?

Author Note: VLG stands for Vampires, Lycans, Gargoyles...and breeds in between. Living in Alaska's harsh, pristine territories, these creatures live and love fiercely. These are their stories.

Meh…

I didn't like this book as well as the Species series and I won't be continuing on, I barely finished this one. While I liked the whole Vampire, Lycan, Gargoyle aspect to the story, the rules not so much. It was also hard to like the book because I hardly liked any of the characters in the story. I did not like Drantos's clan. Everyone wanted Dusty to grovel at Drantos feet and continually told Dusty how she was not good enough for him. It was beyond degrading how everybody treated Dusty, especially since she was new to the clan and did not know the ways, they basically thought she was only good as a brood mare. Drantos also had a mentality of "Me Tarzan, you Jane, do what I say", which he later lightens up a bit on. Dusty was also annoying, half the time she was cowering behind Drantos and the other she was blindly running into danger without thought. Plus the whole book had a Damsel in distress vibe to it, which I wouldn't mind if I actually liked any of the characters. But mainly I like women with a bit of a back bone and isn't too stupid to live. Also I would have been fighting tooth and nail for my sister, that part of the book bugs me because they were separated at the beginning and then Bat is just gone. I know the next book is about her but that wouldn't fly in my world. The best part of the story was the narrator and I would certainly listen to her again.

The More I Listened, The More It Grew On Me!

Overall, I liked Drantos, but honestly it wasn't my favorite by Dohner.

Laurann Dohner is a talented writer who has created a complex world of lycans, vampires and gargoyles. The story's fresh, fascinating, full of humor, but there's a lot to take in with the characters, clan politics, and the history of these supernatural beings (it almost had my head spinning.) I believe die hard fans of shifter romances will appreciate the complexity and mix of these supernatural beings; however, I can tell this will be one of those stories where some will love it, while others will dislike it.

Some spoilers;
True to Dohner's writing style, there's a lot of heat, attraction and sexual tension between the H/h. In the beginning, it felt a bit forced but as the story progresses, the chemistry between Drantos and Dusti develops and becomes genuine. At times, Dusti's character could be annoying, and stubborn but at least she had a backbone. I actually felt bad for Drantos when he discovered she was his mate. Because of his clan's politics and their dislike of supernatural beings who have been diluted with human blood, Drantos had an uphill battle protecting, keeping and convincing his clan and Dusti of her place as his mate. From the moment he realizes Dusti's his mate, I loved how this dominate alpha's world changes as he becomes focused on making her happy and helping her fit in.

The subplot and characters were really good. Dusti and Bat were tricked by their grandfather, Decker, to come to Alaska for a sinister plot. He wants to use one of the sister as leverage to start a conflict between the different clans all in an attempt to gain power over all the clans. When Drantos's clan learns Decker is plotting something bad, Drantos and Kraven are sent to intercept and retrieve the sisters before Decker can put his plans into motion.

This was the first story I've listened to narrated by Savannah Richards and was impressed with how she portrayed the characters. She did a fantastic job!

I'm a huge fan of PNR's and loved both the New Species and Cyborg series! This is the first story in the VLG series I've listened too and thought it was intriguing but not as intense as her other series. I am curious enough to listen too the other audios that have been released; however, I would only buy these stories on a whispersync deal or sale and save my credit.

book was ok. too much sex not enough action.

Book was ok. could use less sex, more imagination and action. Characters are well thought out but lack depth. descriptions of characters and history, lineage are superb but story was lacking in appeal where skirmishes are concerned.

Dusty's Bitchy!

Ms. Dohner's always an automatic download for me, I love her books just that much! This one falls squarely in the middle range for me, I just felt that Dusty was such a whiny b-word and I never warmed to her at all! Still the writing of Dohner and the narration by Savannah Richards make this audiobook a buy, just don't expect to fall in love with Dusty!

Great story but the voice for DustI is ridiculous

Which character – as performed by Savannah Richards – was your favorite?

All of them, with the exception of Dusti, are great.

Any additional comments?

The narrator is excellent but the voice she uses for Dusti is awful to listen to. The constant shakiness makes me cringe. Seriously, it's a good book with great characters but Dusti sounds like a very terrified 5 year old who can't speak without sounding like she's having a heart attack. I do love everything else and the other voices for the other characters are great.

Too much fluff

Overall the basic storyline was excellent. Dusti tended to get on my nerves because she was constantly jumping to the wrong conclusion and her sarcastic selfishness, but in the end she won me over with her kind heart. Drantos was pure sexy awesomeness! I wouldn't have changed a thing. He had my vote from the beginning. It took a couple of chapters for the story to really get going and some of the statements in the first part were really stupid. Like when the girls were wondering if they were being mugged or or about to be raped, when the Drantos and Kraven were trying to save them when the plane was going down. It was just a little too ridiculous. Overall, the basic plot was really well written and kept my attention. I devoured the entire audiobook in less than 24 hours!

There were entirely too many sex scenes, which I finally ended up fast forwarding through most of. They became redundant after the first 3-4. It seemed like fluff to me. I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if I had only had about three total!

The narrator was wonderful and the emotions in the story really came across and she did a fantastic job distinguishing between the voices. I would've given more stars had there been a lot less fluffy sex.

Loved it. The open dirty talk and plain languange (swearing and all) made this a really good listen.

Brilliant performance weak story

The story started very well the performance was great but as it progressed, Dusti's character just became weak and non-redeemable. The people of the clan whilst initially understandably shocked and such, their cruelty just became vindictive and. The author never gave Dusti vindication from it. The little she seemed to consider in the end even that she took away from her. Drakos who had been the epitome of Alpha male just wasn't well rounded by the end of the book. The book just left one hanging for something more spectacular or more finished but didn't quite deliver. I would still recommend it and but tone down on expectation. It passed the time nicely, didn't blow me away. I'm not inspired to pick the next book, but if I were short of something to read would consider it hence the 3 starts, the author clearly has talent but she just didn't make her characters endearing to the reader. I kept hoping Dusti might suddenly develop some neat tricks from drinking Drakos blood to show the clan that she was worthy but .....

Great read... if you can get over the female lead

Loved the story line and savannah did a great job bringing the characters to life.

I'm happy this wasn't the first one in the series that I read though, because I found Dusti - the female protagonist so annoying and off putting

She felt like those whiny judgy teenage girls that you just want to grab and shake hard or slap across the face for an attitude adjustment

It totally put me off wanting to read the next book - which incidentally is about her sister... no thank you!!!

Glad I started with book 5 and 6 first... but great series though, if you can hack the female lead long enough to enjoy it.

Intensely gratifying

Laurann weaves a story like no other, she infused action, suspense and humour in her storytelling and not to forget hot and sizzling sex scenes ;P oh my wow this book is hot hot hot. The interaction of Dusti the mainly human mate of VampLycans Drantos with her in Laws and the vamp lycans community is refreshing, not many book deals with this storylines and Drantos and Dusti's learning each others culture is realistic because it happens in real life (mine) i left my country and move to my husband country and has to deal with lots of changes specially culture shock, its not easy but with your partners support its not too bad. Savannah is amazing in her narrative, she is believable, just awesome thanks ladies xxx
