Publisher's Summary

"I couldn't have forgotten about you even if I'd tried. The seas could have frozen over. The heavens could have come crashing down to earth. Time could have stood still, and I would never have been able to cleanse myself of you."

Coralie

Twelve years ago, I ran to stay alive.

Port Royal, South Carolina, was my home. I was born there. I fell in love there. And I nearly died there. I never thought I'd go back. Now, after so many years, I have to return to bury the man who made my life a living hell. Some nights, I used to cry myself to sleep, praying my father would die. Other nights were different. Other nights, there was him.

Callan Cross.

My first confidante. My first kiss. My first love. My first everything: Callan was the glue that held me together when everything else was falling apart. He was my savior. He was there for me whenever I needed him...Until he wasn't.

Every night, I've seen the love of my life in my sleep. I just never thought I'd have to face him again.

Callan

Twelve years ago, I f--ked up big time.

Living life through a camera lens is sometimes easier than dealing with it head on. Scratch that. It's always easier. For over a decade, I've been a master of my art, taking photographs all over the world. Yet despite all of the countries I've visited, the amazing things I've seen, the beautiful women I've screwed, my heart has remained in pieces.

Coralie's the only woman I've ever loved, will ever love. And I'm determined to show her that we're meant to be together. Even if it means unearthing the bones of the past in the process.

A lifetime and a thousand miles have stood between us.

Now, there's no length of time I won't wait, no distance I won't travel, in order to make her mine.

A standalone contemporary romance with hints of darkness. This novel contains serious themes of violence that some listeners might find uncomfortable.

    "Heartbreaking Second Chance Love Story!"

Callie Hart did an amazing job pulling the listener into an emotional heart wrenching story about two young souls finding love, only to be separated, but fate had a way of bringing them back together. Coralie may have suffered in silence at the hands of her father, but meeting, and falling in love with Callen was how she dealt with his cruelty. Told from dual POV's with past and present scenes, the listener follows the characters as they return back to their hometown to face the demons of their past, reunite, heal, and move forward.

Ramona did a good job on the narration. While it was difficult to distinguish between the characters sometimes, I definitely felt all the raw emotions throughout the whole story.

Calico was an emotional story, with great characters, I especially liked some of the secondary characters. An excellent find!

    "Enjoyable!"

I liked it, enjoyed it. I love a strong male character and damsel in distress female. Narrator was good although I was a little confused bc she only had an accent once and awhile, wasn't noticeable enough to take away from the story though :)

    "Heartbreakingly perfect"

Callie Hart and Ramona Masters have given us such a great gift. This audio story and narration grabbed me from the moment I began through to the last word. The story of CoraLee and Callen is exquisite, painful, endearing and raw. One of the best audios I've heard in quite awhile. You are drawn into their story and watch from the sidelines as each moment unfolds. Bravo, well done, and please bring us more.

    "Emotional Second Chance at Love"
    Any additional comments?

You can run but you can't hide from your past. It catches up to you sooner or later. Coralie and Callan have learned this the hard way. It's been 12 years and it's time to face their demons.

A gritty, sometimes dark emotional rollercoaster ride of love, forgiveness, secrets, heartbreak, regrets and second chances with a hard fought HEA that is worth every minute of your time. The story pulls you in from the start and never lets go.

The first time they see each other at the church and Callan says her name you can feel and hear the emotion in his voice.

The story is told through both Coralie and Callan's POV in the present as well as flashbacks to the past.

Coralie and Callan were meant to be together. They are soulmates and they both know it.Circumstances and secrets tore them apart. Neither of them could ever forget the other. Coralie kept devastating secrets from Callan when they were younger. He never completely understood everything that was going on. He has blamed himself for years. Those secrets are about to be revealed, they are heartbreaking and it will change everything.

Ramona Masters did a good job with the narration overall. Pleasant voice. Clearly spoken. The narration in the beginning didn't always flow smoothly. There was a slight hesitation when she was going from one line to the next. At times her narration was a bit to fast for my taste. After a couple of chapters she found her rhythm and her narration flowed more evenly. She has some really good character voices, at the same time she needs a bit more difference between her male and female characters. She was able to make you feel the emotions of the characters through her narration and bring the story to life.

Personally, this is one of those stories that would have been even better with dual narration.

"High School Lovers Second Chance Romance"
    Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. This second chance romance (High School Lovers) was not what I was expecting. Callie Hart did an excellent job with pulling on my heartstrings and providing plenty of angst, and a HEA. Ramona Master brought the characters to life and had me captivated the whole time. I was hook, line and sinkered with all the mystery and events of the past, that I was anxious to know what happened and loved how it was revealed throughout the book. I highly recommend this audiobook!

    "Just loved this book"
What was one of the most memorable moments of Calico?

I have two. The first was when Callan stated why Coralie wouldn't get married and the second is when the secrets from the past were revealed. It was just heartbreaking.

What about Ramona Master’s performance did you like?

At times I felt she read a little fast and there was little distinction between the hero and heroines voices but even with those things I really enjoyed her narration. I would listen to another book that was narrated by her.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book. Actually have a signed copy of this book but never got around to reading it.I rarely rate 5 stars but this story was very intense but a love story underneath it all and I just really felt the emotion between the Coralie and Callanl. I really would recommend this book.

Calico is one of the most amazingly emotional and powerful love stories I've read in recent history. The tightly woven plot kept me on the edge of my seat. Perfection.

"More intense than angsty, style takes getting used"
    Any additional comments?

I'm a newbie to Callie Hart's work, but I kept seeing the promos and raves for this book after it first came out in ebook format, and honestly? That cover totally caught my eye (and now that I've listened to it, the cover ties into the story, so aww, that was a neat nod).

It was a good thing this book DID come so highly recommended. Unfortunately, although I was initially caught up in the sample enough to request to review this audio, when I really got into it, it seemed to start tooo slow and the style was throwing me off.
However, the entire time it is building layers, giving you a clearer picture of past events, of present situation, of the character's deepest, darkest, innermost turmoil & desires and piece by piece it all unfolds into a beautiful, sad story of two people who find each other again, who never really stopped loving each other.

    "Beautiful Second Chance Romance"
    Any additional comments?

Calico is a story of triumph over abuse, first love, unbearable heartache and ultimately, a second chance at happiness. Heartbreaking, beautiful and emotional, I absolutely loved this audiobook. The narration was terrific, especially the Southern accents and I liked the engaging, quirky secondary characters and much as Coralie and Callan. I would highly recommend this audiobook.

    "Heartbreakingly Good."

I read this when this was first released and loved it.

The audio version just made this story so much heartbreaking as Ramona Master did an amazing job narrating this story.

Calico is by no means an easy book to read/listen to, but that is just another positive in my opinion, as it really makes you feel the hurt and pain that Coralie and Callan have to go through to get their HEA.

This is definitely going on my re-listen list.
