Publisher's Summary

Eighteen months after Natalie Gray loses her husband, Bernie, in a horrific hit-and-run accident, she finds love with his best friend, Ed Cooper, and moves into his home with her teenage daughter, Scarlett. But she begins to suspect Ed has a dark side - and even darker intentions. Natalie must get her troubled child to a safer place, but when Scarlett starts to hear voices coming from the empty apartment next door it seems she has unwittingly moved them into the heart of danger.

DCI Tom Douglas is also chasing the truth. As his investigation into the suicide of a teenage girl draws him ever closer to Natalie and Scarlett, will he be too late to protect them from the threat they face or from the truths that will tear their lives apart?

One of my absolute favorites!

More, more, more from Rachel, please. Intricate story that winds and weaves a mystery unlike other audiobooks. One of my absolute favorites! Highly recommended. There were a few Audible technical difficulties, but as usual, Audible made it up to me. Kudos to thrilling author Rachel Abbott and excellent narrator Rachel Atkins. Thank you for an exciting journey. Twists and turns galore.

Entertaining

Kept me guessing from start to finish. So many twists and turns , one minute I'm sure I know the bad guys and the next I'm doubting myself. Thoroughly enjoyable read and loved the narration too.

Abbott does it again!

Loved this book. Rachel Abbott is a favorite author of mine and I've read everything of hers I can get my hands on. She didn't disappoint with this one either. The end left me a little speechless but it fit right in with the rest of the story and the character portrayal.

Good story, bad narration

I enjoyed the story, kept me gripped & Tom Douglas is a likeable character. The narrator almost spoilt it for me. The voice is too slow and the 'male' voices not good. I also found the hysterical teenage voices really irritating. It helped for me to increase the speed to 1.25 level.

I really like this series

It is easy to warm to the characters in these stories and the fact that people from the previous books pop up now and then somehow makes the tale all the more enjoyable.

On to the next one then !!

Rachel Abbott does it again!!!

Yet another fantastic story from Rachel Abbott. This has you gripped and want to keep listening more and more. I hope there is a sequel to this book as I'd like to hear more....first chapter starts a bit odd and I did wonder what I was about to listen to however once that's done it's fabulous. Wish I could forget the story so I could listen again!

Not quite as good as Rachel's previous books

Overall I did enjoy this audiobook, however, I kept waiting for a twist that took ages to come, and then wasn't very exciting. The narration was as good as ever, and Rachel Abbot built the main characters well. I just didn't find myself staying awake in anticipation of what was going to happen.

Abbott's Best Yet?

The Sixth Window is appropriately the sixth installment in the DCI Tom Douglas series and for me this series is simply getting better and better. Abbott is obviously far from the only writer producing these very human and grounded thrillers but she's an important author for me because she opened my eyes to them. I had always enjoyed more action-packed books but these offer something I find just as exciting in a more subtle fashion.

Once again without any great body count or extremely violent scenes Abbott has shown her craft in weaving personal relationships with serious crime. In the early parts of the book I did wonder if she had lost her touch a little, the story developing appeared a bit too obvious. But as the book progressed and new layers and twists were introduced I stopped guessing and just let those twists lead me where they would to an ending which I found very satisfying but which doesn't quite seem to finish the entire story. It actually feels set up in a way reminiscent of how Stranger Child paved the way for Nowhere Child. Time will tell on that one.

The narration from Rachel Atkins is spot on and I very much enjoyed her performance throughout.

To sum it up this is a story from a writer who is finely honing her craft and who is capable of engendering tension and excitement in her readers in a subtle and intelligent fashion. Using very contemporary themes that are made harrowing through emotion and commentary rather than gory description. Whether this really is the best in the series in all aspects may be questionable but I do believe that it's the one I have most enjoyed.

Brilliant

Really enjoyed this book as I did the previous ones in the series! My only criticism would be the narrator who although perfectly acceptable is not the same as the previous book and it's quite off putting hearing the same characters but with a different voice!!

Loved the story, the characters, the pace and the narration. I've read all the books in this series and this book was right up there with the rest. Great book!

I like Rachel Abbott but this is not her best

The narrator was fine but the story was not one of Rachel Abbott's best. I think most of the story was based on the female's character's actions because she saw something on her live in partner's computer but I don't think anybody would react the way she did and therefore it was a bit of downhill afterwards. This woman was very 'over-reactive' and this spoilt most of the story.

Dreadful

A sharp disappointment .. an incredibly silly and irritating book with unbelievable characters and a ridiculous plot .. previously enjoyed this author. Once invested, I felt I had to continue, but would not recommend.

Riviting'

A complete page turner. Couldn't wait to get back to it when I had to leave it for other tasks. Totally unpredictable, but what will happen next? Is there a sequal? Natalie is not at all safe and Ed is a complete rotter! If he kills Natalie, Scarlet is the step-daughter of a double murderer and pedophile. The end is not satisfactory. There is another book in this story - maybe not. Natalie and Scarlet have suffered too much already.
