Lie Still

This was a good novel. The narrator was solid all the way through, giving voice to several different characters in different accents. The story had several components which the author was able to connect solidly. At times, I felt that the author provided unnecessary details which were mundane. However, overall, I think it's a solid audiobook!

Heaberlin keeps you guessing

Completely unable to predict the end of this one - another masterpiece by Heaberlin.
Hard to anticipate where she'll go next. This book has a dark premise that sneaks up on you at every turn. Couldn't stop listening.

Booooooo!

I had just got done with Black Eyed Susans and We Are All the Same in the Dark, which were both so exciting and I loved them, and this was not them...., I'm so bummed. I listened all the way through and kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. I'm so disappointed.
The performance was excellent, I liked the narrator.

Disappointing

It was interesting and we'll written in parts. I liked Letty a lot, but many of the characters weren't very believable. The narrator, however, was fantastic.

Julia Heaberlin is a MASTER of Mystery

I have listened to several books by Julia and have not been disappointed by any. This author maintains a flow that keeps you connected to the plot without repeating each episode which I find annoying. And Rebecca Gibel's narration is so good giving each character a flawless representation. I look forward to more!!

Not the author’s fault

I have not gotten far enough into the book to review the actual writing, but something is up with this audible recording. It has “skipped” about ten times, as if I were listening to an old cd. I went back and listened to the same parts again, and they always skip, like it was recorded that way. Was it copied off of a dirty cd? I’m disappointed because I really love this author and want to hear every word of her writing. About 75% of the audiobooks I listen to have recording mistakes, like a line repeated, but this one is just bad all over. Maybe someone needs to actually listen to these before they are sold. It seems disrespectful to the authors to put their work out there with mistakes. Help! Please fix this book!!!

very entertaining!

Definitely a neat book. My first from this author. Enjoyed the characters, especially Letty. Little bit southern sorority and little bit mystery.

A Flaccid Flop

What disappointed you about Lie Still?

This story sounded good in the description and in some of the reviews, but it didn't begin to live up to its hype. l struggled to care about Emily, the protagonist, and her problems. I had hopes that as the story progressed, that I would want to know what would happen next, but it just went on and on and on … with all these obnoxious grown up Texas sorority girls and Caroline, their "pledge master" directing their lives. I did not care who murdered Caroline. Actually, I was hoping someone would, but even when that happened, still the story dragged on. I kept wishing Emily would deliver her husband an ultimatum, take off back to New York, have her baby, hire a nanny, and get on with her life. The story deals somewhat with date rape and that is a worthy subject to explore but this story just didn't deliver on that and it isn't even the main thread. I did not finish this audiobook. I just couldn't listen to one more obnoxious Texas airhead. If I were a Texan I would be good and mad at this book. So what bothered me the most? I guess it would have to be the whole storyline. I listened to about 3/4 of it and quit when I decided that the story arc wasn't functioning. It was there but it just wasn't working. This book needed some serious editing, but even an editor couldn't fix the vapid prose.

Has Lie Still turned you off from other books in this genre?

I won't be listening to any more books of its ilk. I didn't like Gone Girl either. Both were ridiculous.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rebecca Gibel’s performances?

As long as she doesn't read them in a southern accent. And by the way, hers is good. But I need a rest!

What character would you cut from Lie Still?

Most of them.

Any additional comments?

I would love to have my credit back.

Pass on this one

it might be better than I've stated. it's difficult to judge because the narration is so bad. it distracts to the point I missed a lot of the dialog. if it's free in the catalog you might be able to slough through, definitely don't waste a credit

I love this author

I’ve read all but one of Ms Heaberlin’s books this year (2023) I love all of her characters, each is fleshed out to enhance the twists and turn’s that make her books a delight to read. She has a gift and I’m here to enjoy every book she writes.
