When she was 9 years old, Melody Browne's house burned down, and it took all of her childhood memories with it. Now she's a single mother of a teenage boy living in Central London. She hasn't seen her parents since she left home at 15, but she doesn't mind. She's better off on her own. She works as a dinner lady at her son's school and has no idea where her humdrum life is heading. But one summer's night, a hypnotist inadvertently unlocks memories of her childhood, and her whole life is turned upside down.

At first, these new memories mean nothing to her, but as Melody slowly begins to piece together the real story of her childhood, she begins to uncover mystery after mystery and wonders if she'll ever know the truth about her past...

While the story was a bit unbelievable, it was entertaining, and good mental break. Great narration.

A great change from the other books that I've read from her. Highly recommend and was finished quickly

I liked this story. I typically enjoy this author so it was a safe purchase. I do not regret buying and I did read the whole thing in a matter of days but at no point did I think it was great. The narration was great. I guess if I had to pinpoint my reasons for not rating higher, I find myself just annoyed that too much was unbelievable. I understand artistic license but there's a difference between weaving a story and just outright predictable. This book was a strong three stars, the performance was outstanding, but I won't seek out this author again.

Just okay for me, not great

Another Lisa Jewell jewel. Back and forth through time, a story of a unique young girl’s childhood survival and the colorful characters she encounters, even a most unexpected best friend. What is it that draws people together regardless of age and social status? To me, the entire story is a great fairytale.

Really great characters, but the story could not hold my attention! I had to jump back chapters multiple times because I found myself not listening. I normally love stories that bounce back and forth throughout a character’s life, but she kept losing me. I will be asking for my credit back on this one!

Not my favorite LJ book
