Publisher's summary

When she was 9 years old, Melody Browne's house burned down, and it took all of her childhood memories with it. Now she's a single mother of a teenage boy living in Central London. She hasn't seen her parents since she left home at 15, but she doesn't mind. She's better off on her own. She works as a dinner lady at her son's school and has no idea where her humdrum life is heading. But one summer's night, a hypnotist inadvertently unlocks memories of her childhood, and her whole life is turned upside down.

At first, these new memories mean nothing to her, but as Melody slowly begins to piece together the real story of her childhood, she begins to uncover mystery after mystery and wonders if she'll ever know the truth about her past...

So much potential.....what a letdown!!!

I am really at a loss on how to rate this book.
The narration was perfect! I haven't heard this narrator read before and I stand up and applaud this extremely talented voice artist. To be quite honest, it is more than likely the only reason that finished the book. Now, for the story itself...it grabbed my attention and kept me awake until the wee hours of the morning... I really felt like the story was going to bring everything together and really hit it out of the ballpark with an earth shattering ending...without giving anything away..I have to say that I was left thinking...really?? thats it?? There were SO many characters piled Into the story that just didn't need to be there. Nobody really served a purpose or added to the storyline. I have to say that I am truly disappointed and feel cheated out if my time and credit.

Hopeful! Great example of making a difference!

This fictional account of a woman’s life experiences and interactions captured my attention and held it throughout:
Author deftly jumps back And forth in time to reveal glimpses of critical times in Melody Brown’s life, giving just enough hints to keep the reader wondering yet engaged in finding out the TRUTH about Melody Brown.

Best of all- I like how his story gives me hope that people I have known in MY life met, still remember me and have been positively affected by knowing me. It was a VERY positive story.

I got the idea in early chapters that the heroine had low self-esteem or perhaps FELT that she had been dealt unlucky cards in life, but by the end, It’s revealed that she is a highly respected and loved person who has left a significant and positive impact on Those with whom she has come in contact.

Lisa Jewell classic!

This is one of the best Lisa Jewell books I’ve listened to. I’ve either read or listened to everything she’s ever written and if you love the sweeping family saga style writing that is classic Lisa Jewell you will really enjoy this one. True rich characters and a wonderful story.

A must !

I’ve listened to at least 7 of Lisa jewells books and enjoyed every one . This one was practically emotional for me as I lost my mother at a young age. I cried and laughed and throughly enjoyed every moment. Not wanting the story to end . A tale told perfectly . A must if you have loved her other books .

Interesting Story

While the story was a bit unbelievable, it was entertaining, and good mental break. Great narration.

Sad sweet story

Some people reviewed this book as the author uses too much descriptions but I think a audio book needs it to be able to visualize. I like when a teacup or a lovely garden is described. I like a detailed account of what someone is wearing. The thing about this story is it makes you think about how little children are at the mercy of parents and other adults decisions that shape the outcome of what happens to them. Melody was a victim of circumstances time after time that took her to adulthood. She was likable as she did not complain and whine but carried on into her adult life. The story is about how she arrived at a point in her life where she needed to find out what had happened to her as a small child.
