In New Orleans, a pair of undead serial killers is about to turn Mardi Gras into a horror show - unless the immortal hitman Bones can hunt them down first....
Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own....

Charley Davidson isn’t your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She’s more of a paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. However, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. To further complicate matters, Reyes is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth... but then dead women start appearing in her apartment, one after another, each lost, confused, and terrified beyond reason.
When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma, is the serial killer’s next target Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes’ help. Arsonist or not, he’s the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.
Charley Davidson is at it again in Fifth Grave Past the Light, the sexy, suspenseful, and laugh-out-loud funny fifth installment of the New York Times best-selling series by Darynda Jones.
What can i say other than how funny and great this book was. From the beginning laughter was included and it was loud, specially remember this review when you hear the word salut in the beginning of the book, was at the office and i couldn't stop myself laughing.
We are at book 5 and the number of characters is increasing and you get to know few new ones here, and some of them are unique.
Of course narration was great. Lorelei King is a great narrator and one of my favorites.
Darynda Jones you have done a wonderful job here, and don't make us wait for he next Charley Davidson book.

Every time I listen to a CHARLEY DAVIDSON book I know that I’m in for a wild ride, but Darynda Jones has truly outdone herself with this latest installment. We finally get a real sense of “the big picture” that’s previously only been hinted, and the infamous “key” is at long last inserted into the “lock.” Cryptic enough for you? I’m sure that long-time fans of this series know exactly what I’m talking about, but as for the rest of you… this is a spoiler-free review, so you’d best get reading!
There’s definitely no shortage of plot threads in FIFTH GRAVE PAST THE LIGHT with ghosts galore, a serial arsonist on the loose, a new client with a cheating ex husband, and then of course there’s Charley’s ongoing issues with the son of Satan. My favourite mystery out of the bunch was the one surrounding the 20 dead blondes; I loved the way Jones developed this story line, and the resolution was masterfully done. The other subplots were equally as entertaining, especially the new tidbits we learn about this series’ main arc. Mr Wong continues to be stand-in-the-corner dude, but I’m beginning to suspect that he’s there for a reason. And, that cliffhanger, well let’s just say it’s the reason why I’ve postponed listening to this audio for so long.
I’ve been DYING for more Charley/Reyes’ smexy time since I first started these books, and Jones finally delivers in this installment. I guess it’s a good thing that the author made readers wait for so long because it allowed their chemistry to reach its boiling point, but you can’t blame a girl for wanting less flirting and more “doing.” Their relationship undergoes a lot of growth in this novel—both in and out of the bedroom—and it’s clear that their romance is in no danger of waning anytime soon. The secondary characters continue to be incredibly endearing; Cookie is hands down my fav, but Garrett and Ubie aren’t too far behind.
Lorelei King brings just the right amounts of sultry and sass to these audios. She really captures the essence of Charley’s larger-than-life, smart mouthed, ADD personality, and makes you feel like she’s a real person. King is a skilled narrator with a knack for bringing the snark while still maintaining a good pace and tone. Her character voices are distinct yet remain consistent throughout this series, and she sure knows how to deliver a punch line! I can’t imagine that it’s easy reading Jones’ writing aloud with a straight face, so this woman deserves mad props for this and for her stellar performance.
FIFTH GRAVE PAST THE LIGHT is the best of the best, the crème de la crème, the pick of the litter—well, you get the idea. The Darynda Jones / Lorelei King duo is unstoppable!

Ms. Jones, it was an amazing sequel! Charlie makes you want to sit her in time-out just to get a breather. The plot and sub-plots where intricate and involved. Not a dull moment anywhere. I like how you have the romance between Charlie and Reyes, but you don't allow it to consume the entire book. I TOTALLY LOVED THE ENDING!!!!! Can't wait for the next addition to the series. This book totally left me with a big grin on my face :D!
Ms. King, you were awesome as usual!
Yep, it was worth my credit. I would have loved for it to be longer,. But, I am one of those guest who likes to stay a little too long, if I am having a good time! lol!

DARYNDA really brought it in FIFTH GRAVE PAST THE LIGHT. Charley is overwhelmed with women in her apartment. She doesn’t hesitate to figure out their story. It really made me wish that there is someone like Charley to set the deceased at ease and help them cross.
Garrett Scopes helps to fill in Charley and the reader on the whole portal thing. He is a real friend, but I didn’t so much like him testing the dagger out on Reyes. I think my heart stopped for a second. Nothing like a little testosterone being thrown around.
I really thought I had the whole serial killer thing figured out. But JONES gives us a crafty twist and turn. And I am going to give you fair warning. DO NOT FORGET any loose ends. The case I sadly had forgotten just about did me and Charley in. Luckily, she really is a badass and is coming into her own awesomeness.
Reyes. I didn’t think he could get any yummier. Not only does he show us some of his domestic talents, he lays most of his cards on the table for Charley. It is more than obvious how he feels about her. But he could show me one more time, if he wants. *toes curl* But I have questions. How does their relationship play into the prophecy and the things Garrett told us? What about Rocket’s premonitions? And how can you make us wait so long to find out the answer to the last line?
This is not my first LORELEI KING narration. She is the voice of Mercy Thompson too. Though I’ve loved them together, I think she was made to be the voice of Charley Davidson. Her voice perfectly plays Charley’s sarcasm, confidence and self-deprecation. As usual, she rocks the secondary characters. LORELEI is one of the best at projecting alphaness on her males. They never sound neutered and actually drip with swoon-worthy sexiness. And as much as I love reading the series, Felicia @ The Geeky Bloggers’ Book Blog is right. “Freaking Brilliant! …I highly recommend these on audio.”

I'm at a lost. I thought the last line of the 4th book was the best ever but Ms. Jones may have topped herself. This series is exceptional. Each one is more entertaining than the last. This one is impassioned from the start. Mystery, action and paranormal all wrapped up with appealing characters.

If you're already a fan - then you know what you're gonna get..... an amazing, awesome and addictive listen that'll have you laughing out loud one minute and then on the edge of your seat the next. However, if you haven't heard of this series before then ..... JUST WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? it takes the saying "I see dead people" to a whole new level so start at book 1, sit back and enjoy.
Quirky humour, funny on-liners, hot sexual chemistry, new powers, more characters, action, adventure, mystery, surprises, plenty of paranormal activity and, of course, the oh sooo drool worthy and delicious Reyes (damn I'm jealous) makes this book a PNR lovers dream listen.
So what do you say Darynda - how about I agree to come round and be your own personal 'do absolutely everything' P.A. for a month or two then would that get Sixth Grave to your fans any quicker?
Worth a credit? Shhhhhhh (don't tell Audible) but I'd spend 2, 3 or even 4 credits on each listen they're that good - so that's not just a YES but it's a fling your arms out and scream it from the rooftops HALLELUJAH, THANK YOU DARYNDA YES.

Another hit with Charlie Davidson. Crazy, ADD and plain good times. Since this is the fifth book in the series you know what I'm talking about. Otherwise start with book 1, you won't regret it. So funny in parts almost peed my pants. Time flew by at work. Defiantly will be continuing on with this series. Please write faster Darynda Jones. And as usual Lorelei King rocks with her narration.

I can't say enough how much I love this series. Just start at book one and keep listening you will not be disappointed. This series just keeps getting better. Charley learns more about herself and Reyes in every book and I am excited to see where things will go from here. Daryanda Jones is the best with witty, sexy and spunky. Lorelei King is also one of the best narrators and she does this series so well. This pair is a winner. I just wish these books would come faster.

I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but this has to be my favorite! The combination of Darynda Jones & Lorelei King is unbeatable! If you haven't read this series from the beginning, you owe it to yourself to give it a go!
