it's a 7 minute drive

it's a 7 minute drive from my house to work, but I found myself leaving 30 minutes early and coming home 30 minutes later LOL. I just loved this series, the story, the narrator, the characters. The only thing I'm disappointed about is I'm already done. I wanted more and we'll have to wait until May.

Omg, I can't even possibly express how much I love the Audibles of this series!!! Traci Odom is a master and Darynda Jones is just the best. How do they know how I think???? The story and characters are so Great, I can't get enough! Thank you ladies....and Netters too!!! You are perfection!!!❤❤❤❤

I’m loving this series

At first I was afraid when I saw the main character, Defiance, was in her 40s, recently divorced and broke. So far this “sub-genre” has been a no go for me. Either too much talk of how out of shape, or too much spite about the ex, etc. Except for Midlife something or other, which is kind of similar actually. Somehow in a new town with an old house and strange goings on...
This series is surprisingly “clean” despite romantic interest with a the kilt wearing man named Roan. But the romantic moments are good and very, well, romantic and surprisingly very, Uber lightly steamy. Not so much steamy. I don’t know. I’d like a bit more maybe but I’m okay with it.
Sidekick Annette provides fun conversation.
Mysterious grandmother who gave Defiance the “haunted” house known as Percy (lots o’ personality in the house), Ruthie Goode is a lovely character.
I like paranormal, and various fiction, fantasy, fairies, and oddly good Regency romances.
But I don’t like any magic to get too “real” as in pentagrams or anything that seems dangerous to my soul, if anyone knows what I mean.
Anyway, I can’t wait to read next and I think final book.
I just realized that the narrator, Traci Odom, is doing a really good job. No trouble at all discerning who’s speaking. Of course, who doesn’t like a deep, gorgeous voice for the leading man, but Odom is doing fine.
(I’ve only found one female narrator who can do an insanely good man’s voice, but her vocal cords must have quite a range! So not fair to compare.)
I seldom give 5 Stars, though I am a little generous, I guess. But like with movies, if I get a few real chuckles from dialogue, I’m happy. And since I have no idea where this story is going next, well, I’m excited.

Fun Magical Witch Story

This book was great. A continuation of an older witch learning her magical powers. It has romance in it, the love of family, the love of friends, and of course magic. The fact that the main character is 45 makes it a perfect story for a mature woman who LOVES fantasy and magical stories.

Darynda Jones you did it again!

Once again Darynda hits it out of the park. Great storyline with plenty of humor and some mystery and a little bit of sexiness. Everything a girl could want in a paranormal romance. Traci Odom does an excellent job bringing the book to life. Can’t wait for more from this amazing author.

Not her strongest

Too much sex and not enough magic. Still a fun listen, but I prefer Darynda's other series better

Defiance? More like Denial

“I think I seized the wrong day”
In this book 2, Defiance copes with learning she’s a powerful witch by pretending she’s lost her powers and ignoring the omens of a looming magical crisis. Her stubborn denial knows no bounds as she lies to friends and family alike. While her freak out is a little funny, it’s also a lot frustrating. It’s not that I think older gals can’t be funny or sarcastic, but I’d hope that an MC like 45 year old Defiance would demonstrate some wisdom or fortitude born from years of experience. Even though the MCs from the author’s Charley Davidson or Sunshine Vicram series are younger, Defiance is the most juvenile of the three MCs and this series is the most cartoonish. Adjust expectations accordingly, and this is a good popcorn listen.

Pretending Defiance was a twenty-something helped me to roll with the almost slapstick plots and teenage hormones. Seriously folks, this book had way too much sex-on-the-brain, including a ton of euphemisms and the whole “caught in the act by her parents” schtick. Plus, some very un-cozy, naughty nooky that those new to the author may not expect.

“Crows before bros”
You don’t necessarily need to start with book 1 as this book nicely recaps prior events. This series is clearly following the same uber-slow reveal formula as the author’s Charley Davidson series. Each book barely moves the needle on explaining Defiance’s power, backstory or destiny. Instead, enjoy the hijinks and mini-mystery procedural in each book and try not to get annoyed that 45 year old Defiance gets in and out of jams by sheer luck and stupidity. I’ll try to follow my own advice, forgive the shallow treatment of a fellow middle aged single lady, and focus on the fun.

Sheriff: “Stop … or I’ll arrest you!”

I met Darynda Jones, as an author, with her Charley Davidson series. It was excellent—I couldn’t wait for the next book from book 1 to 13 and novellas too. Thank you

Now I am reintroduced D.J. with Betwixt & Between. I have read Books 1, 2, & 3---I am excited and waiting for the next book again. This series is so much fun—A hoot to listen to.
Tarci Odom is now the voice of Betwixt & Between for me—she has done an excellent job and I hope continues to do so.

I will purchase, enjoy and want more of this series
