Publisher's summary

Brilliant, quirky twenty-three-year-old China Mack is totally satisfied with her carefully ordered, data-driven life. A computer prodigy who landed a coveted programming job at the cutting-edge tech company Cysnet before even graduating from MIT, China is happiest when following her routine: shower before coffee, pizza only on Mondays, bedtime at ten thirty sharp.

But then things start to get a little...unpredictable.

First Jackson Cooper - Cysnet's rich, gorgeous, genius CEO - assigns China to a dangerous and highly classified project for a government defense contractor. Her sixteen-year-old runaway niece suddenly arrives in town, begging to move in with China. And then there's her sexy but oddly unsettling new neighbor, Clark...

Quickly the Cysnet assignment becomes disconcerting - and then downright scary - as key staffers turn up dead. China suspects she's being followed and isn't sure whom she can trust. For the first time ever, she'll have to follow her instincts, rather than logic, if she's going to survive.

Really enjoyed this story a lot!

I totally enjoyed this story from beginning to end. I loved China Mack and OCD normal scheduled daily life. Not to mention was a super smart computer programmer. A brainiac I enjoyed Jackson too. He was smart, rich, handsome.

The story line and plot was great. Murder, mystery and some action. Even though this was written in the first person, it wasn't full of rambling inner thoughts. There was also lots of dialogue throughout the entire book. This was a fast paced story, not full of filler nonsense. Lots of things happening all the time.

The narrator did a great job. The men sounded like men, everyone had their own distinct voice and she read with emotion and had a nice reading voice.

Brain numbing...

Thank goodness the narrator was as good as she was, after chapter 11, I skipped forward to the end, listened to the last eight minutes and knew the whole story. This story was everywhere, China was supposedly super smart however my goodness she kept forgetting she had a niece, she wasn't suspicious about a guy that moved right in next door and became super friendly very quickly? also she was threatened, followed, shot at and when she told her neighbor it was like"oh well" ugggg!!! not recommended.

Excellent

I admit to being hard to please when it comes to audiobooks. I like natural sounding narration. I want a valiant attempt to bring the character to life in a manner that's true to any character descriptions. I like the main characters to have distinct voices. This is especially important with this book, because it's part of a series in which we will continue to see/hear Grandma, Mia, Jackson, Clark, and of course, China Mack.

Arielle DeLisle nails it. There was no period of adjustment as I reconciled the character voices I'd "heard" when I read the book, and that of Ms. DeLisle's performance. Jackson's voice wasn't as I imagined it, but her version fit well with the character, and in less than a minute, her version became Jackson in my head. Her China Mack is all the wonderful, witty, quirky, feisty, and sometimes insecure that China should be. It was a joy to hear.

The book itself is suspenseful and well crafted. It is a strong beginning to a series that continues to go in surprising directions. I don't repeat blurbs, and I'm trying to avoid spoilers--China would resent that. But China is in my top five of characters I'd want to have as a BFF, if only she were real. The book has no shortage of my favorite things: unrealistic shower shenanigans, alpha males carrying the otherwise capable female up stairs and through the rain, weapon stashes or military gear normally reserved for small countries, at least one obscenely rich alpha male (this series skews heavily towards alpha everyone--even the 16 year old is in complete control of her life more often than not), lies made for the greater good or to protect a character (which nonetheless must be forgiven), female characters worth saving, and who sometimes do the saving. I highly recommend both print/eBook and audio of this book in particular, and the series as a whole.

90% Romance novel

I did not realize this was a romance novel when I purchased it. I guess I thought it would have more mystery /intrigue, but it was 90% romance and 10% the other.

Great story

Although the first is a good book... I believe next books the series will be predictable so I will opt out the end was predictable and the 2 guys fighting over one girl will most likely get worse.

Fantastic Story Can't wait for the next one

This was a great story. While I picked it up because it sounded like a cyber thriller the romance parts of it were well done. China reminds me of combining Sheldon Cooper and Chuck and add in girly emotions. She's smart and relatable. Definitely liked the twists and turns.

I love China Mack!!!

I really enjoyed this story, despite being slightly challenged by all the sci-fi nerd talk at times. The story was refreshingly different and with two male leads both vying for the attention of China Mack, I was kept intrigued right until the very end of the book.

China Mack was a fascinating character. A 23 old with a brilliant mind working in computer programming, she is sought-after for her skills and also her looks and quirky ways. Despite having OCD, and her religious routines, she intrigues those around her and especially her boss, Jackson Cooper. When Jackson employs her services on a special project, working closely with him, China is awestruck but jumps at the chance of spending time working alongside him. The only problem is that he leads her down a dangerous path which puts her life in danger and her skills to the test.

This was a real "who do you trust" storyline. With her new neighbour interested in her but having appeared out of the blue, China is suspicious as to why she attracts his attention, and add into the mix the sudden interest Jackson has in her, who exactly can she trust?

Although this book is part of a series, you could read it as a standalone but there is also a separate development calling you to read the next instalment.

Brilliant listen

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Although there were a few niggles when the author let China do some silly things or couldn't connect the dots which were seemingly obvious overall it was hilarious and China's personality was adorable and had me in chuckles quite a bit whilst driving or cooking! Roll on book 2!

Best Series Ever

This is one of my favourite series. This is my second listening of this book and series, so I am caught up again for the last book. It is full of action, intrigue and romance. This series keeps you on your toes and each book is impossibly even better than the last. I love China, she is not your usual run of the mill heroine. She is socially awkward and so loveable. Once you read this book you will be hooked on Tiffany Snow’s books. If you haven’t read any of Tiffany’s books start with her Kathleen Turner series first. There are a couple minor characters that show up latter on from that series, it’s not necessary this series can stand on it’s own. But is helpful if you read that series first. And it gives you a kick of pleasure when they show up latter in this series. You get an ahah moment. Plus to appreciate and understand these minor characters, you really have to read that series first. This series is now finished and so is the Kathleen Turner series. I love reading finished series no waiting on tender hooks for the next book. Enjoy! Great read, wonderful series.
