Publisher's summary

An epic mafia-romance trilogy that sets a new bar for just how dark a hero can get, from New York Times best-selling and Audie Award-winning author CD Reiss.

Some girls dream of marrying a prince, but I never imagined I’d be sold to a king.

Santino DiLustro.

The king. The monster. The keeper of secrets.

When he forced me to marry him, I cried for love I’d never know. When he locked me away, I cried for the freedom I lost forever. Every other tear I’ve shed is for my soul, because I’m falling for the devil himself.

This is the first book of three in a series.

Mafia Arranged marriage drama

Not the author’s best but not terrible. The plot was ok but just very drawn out. Once again this a trilogy that with better editing would have made a fine duet. The cliffhanger for this part was very predictable and not too exciting. I wish the publishers would pay more attention to quality and less on greed and milking the reader for every dime. Both narrators sound too old for their characters of almost 20 and 33 so while the performances were good, the miscast sounded off.

Great story, narration needs help.

The story itself kept me intrigued. I enjoyed it for the most part. I was very invested in the characters. I adore Violetta. Santino is just the right amount of gangster to make him hot hot hot! I'm ready to dive in to the 2nd book.

That being said I have to comment on the narrators. The female lead is ok. She has a breathy, whispery quality to her voice. It can become annoying after a while. However, I would take her reading all the parts for the entire book rather than listening to the male narrator.

Santino is described as beautiful and in his 30s. The narrator sounds like Elliot Gould. He sounds much older and there is NOTHING sexy about his voice. Thank goodness he doesn't do much of this performance or I wouldn't have been able to listen. As it was, I skipped over most of his narration. It ruins the character.

Over all it's worth the credit.

Meh

This was my first time reading Ms. Reiss and I have to say I’m not impressed. With all the great reviews I was really hoping for some awesome material that I could enjoy, sync my teeth into and run with, and I just have to say this one was not for me.

No matter how much the hero/heroine talked the storyline wasn’t getting anywhere only to end on a cliffhanger that frankly doesn’t surprise me because the heroine spent the whole book talking about how beautiful her sister was with her hazel eyes and beauty long lashes. I just couldn’t relate. I have two beautiful sisters but if a man chose me I would say I’m beautiful in my own right. Usually men pick us for different reasons, because of our differences....She was just starting to sound like a f*cked up broken record by the end of the book.......

The “hero” or “anti-hero” whatever you want to call him, he was great, well developed until the end of the book. I can’t say I blame him for lying about any relationship with her sister because she has no self esteem. However he said that the aunt was wrong with her theories.....

I may listen to another book in the series just out of curiosity, I hate leaving a series open, so I didn’t dislike enough not to finish. Plus, the sex wasn’t steamy enough for me. I like more detail. If you’re going to do it then do it. Hell she described everything else to the tune of 34 chapters...One short sex scene and not much detail....meh......

The Spin Series is much better...

For a mafia romance go with The Spin Series by CD Reiss. Very sexy, awesome narration and great action in all three volumes!

Great

The book and story were great, captivating, the girls voice was perfect, you felt her emotions with every FUs and her sarcasm. Loved her! You could really picture Violeta. The guys voice was not the best. The heavy breathing really didn’t help with the image that was described of the main character. And it irritated me.
But over all it was a great read
