Publisher's summary

The first book in the Hollow's Row series.

He's the devil. And she's his wicked game.

An enemies-to-lovers dark romance with a thrilling twist from the disturbed mind that brought you the Darkly, Madly Duet.

Halen:

They say eyes are the windows to the soul—but when he looks at me through hues of slate-green and flaring blue embers, I'm terrified of what's watching me from behind his clashing gaze, something primal and feverish that threatens to melt me like fire in ice.

I fear falling into Kallum Locke's pitch-black soul.

But after I'm called to a crime scene to investigate the most gruesome act of violence to descend on the legendary town of Hollow's Row, I have no choice but to turn to Kallum, to the man I had locked away in an asylum for the criminally insane.

He's the leading expert on all things Nietzsche and occult. And now, to get answers, I'm forced to make a deal with the devil himself.

Kallum:

Really, eyes are the windows to the soul? Then I wonder what little Halen St. James thinks of all the cryptic eyes watching her in the killing fields.... I wonder if the hairs on her delicate nape lifted away, if a thrilling shiver raced over her soft skin. She's desperate for the answer, and she'll do anything to uncover it—even make a deal with me, dangling freedom like bait on a hook.

But she's far more tempting to sink my teeth into than any lure.

And the pain will taste twice as sweet.

Lovely Bad Things is the first of a three-book Hollow's Row series: Book one ends on cliff-hanger.

CW: Serial killers. Crime scenes. Dark themes. Violence. Murder. Blood and sharp object play. Occult references. Loss of loved ones. As this is dark romance, there are likely other dark themes and situations, so please listen responsibly.

What a great story!

I really enjoyed this story, and the narration made it even better. I thought that I would struggle with “dual” narration as opposed to “duet” narration, but both of the voice actors were fantastic and I was able to get over that concern really quickly. The story itself was intriguing and contained a lot of elements I love in a good book - darkness, intrigue, mystery and tension. I would recommend this book to a friend. Totally worth the read and audible credit!

Aptly Titled

Oh my. This was my first Trisha Wolfe novel and HELLO, welcome to horror/suspense with a bit of sex on the side. Trisha masterfully weaves a tale of mystery, all the while building the sexual tension between the two main characters. Lucy Rivers really brought something special to the character of Halen and gave her true emotional depth. Joe Arden gave a flawless performance as Kallum all the way to the end (including the credits). I can't wait to listen to the next book!

Amazing story, lackluster performance for Kallum

First, I love Trisha Wolfe and I love this story. I’ve read the book(s) multiple times and wanted to give the audiobook a shot. With that being said, I don’t think Joe Arden does justice to Kallum. This is clearly a personal preference but he just didn’t live up to the Kallum I had imagined when I read the book. He sounded too much like Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon Cooper attempting to be villainous and seductive. It was cringey. I warmed up to Lucy after a couple of chapters and thought she portrayed Halen wonderfully but ultimately I think I’ll skip the Lovely Violent Things audiobook. I don’t know if I can listen to another disappointing portrayal of Kallum but again, this is personal preference.

Beautiful Storytelling

I have listened to this book over and over again. Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers are an amazing duo. They bring this book to life in a way no one else could.

Wanted to like it so bad

I was really excited to start this book but it just wasn’t my vibe. It was like a part time job trying to get through it. Loved The narration, Joe Arden is what encouraged me to finish the book.

The story is a bit unhinged, which is great, but some parts of the main characters dynamics was unclear.

The story line is very intriguing, I love how we followed the case with Helen discovering the truths slowly. The philosophical plot was confusing and I didn't quite follow. I do have to say that the spicy scenes were deranged and I kinda wish we could've gotten a full scene but maybe the following book will provide that.
