Publisher's summary

Engineering genius, billionaire icon, and consultant to kings, the gorgeous Cassian Court is a legend before he even steps foot on the remote island of Arcadia. But when Mishella Santelle locks eyes with him, she doesn’t see that power - she sees the man behind it and the bruised soul hers has been destined for. But destiny isn’t a luxury for a woman of the Arcadian court.

When six months of Mishella’s life are bargained to Cassian in a multimillion-dollar contract, she must learn the rules of a more ruthless kingdom: New York City. In this glamorous jungle, paths are harder to discern, enemies are more cleverly camouflaged...and passions are impossible to ignore.

Mishella is increasingly drawn to the beautiful but bewildering Cassian. He connects to her soul, challenges her mind, and awakens her body in ways she’s never dreamed. But Mishella fears for her heart and doubts the ghosts from Cassian’s past will ever free him to return her love. Unless she can prove the impossible.... That their love is worth fighting for.

Slow but intriguing

The story is intriguing, if slow going. It is compelling enough to go into the second book in the series to see what happens to Cassian and Michella.

The readers both do an excellent job with the characters and the accents.

Yes sir....smoldering naughty naughty series!! 🔥

Jason Clarke your voice is so damn sexy in this series I get thrills and chills. Hold on when he's narrating those scorchingly hot panty melting scenes. Sizzling!!!!!
Yes there's a cliffhanger but I dont care...the narration by Stella is also great. I am loving the story and looking forward to more of Cassian's and Mishella's whirlwind romance.

How did I not find this series sooner!?

I came across Angel Payne recently but I'd never seen this title in all of my searches for audiobooks on Audible. I didn't know what I was missing out on until I gave it a shot. It's been a long time since a book swept me away emotionally, but this one managed it in spades. The ferocious and passionate depths of emotion these two characters feel for each other was presented beautifully, with some of the best lurid and definitely naughty imagery I've heard in a long time as well. The author doesn't just write the typical sex scenes or paint a basic picture of NYC or the characters themselves, but fills in all of your senses with the sounds, feel, and sights of it all. Honestly, I've come across many authors that try to achieve this eloquently and end up going overboard with unnecessary pages filled with imagery that's ultimately unimportant and boring but Angel hones in on what keeps the reader imagining the world of the book and had me feeling the fascination and wonder that Ella does in NYC. It made me remember my first time there and how the magic of the city seeped into me like it would never let go, like it was a sort of holy place in its' own form of chaos. That trip was 15 years ago and I remember it like yesterday, and Angel's description of the first time feeling of being there brought it back in technicolor for me and the book reminded me why I love that city so much. I think that made me a little attached but ultimately, my love for the book developed into more than that when I saw the complexity underneath the simple, undeniable lust and deep-seated feelings between these two characters. The narration made it even better, and this is one book I definitely recommend listening to rather than reading from Kindle; Jason Clarke has a voice that could coax a woman to jump off a cliff if he told her to, and Stella Bloom did a remarkable job on the accents of each character which could not have been an easy task when Ella's country of origin seemed to be this strange amalgamation of countries (I think they were the U.K., France, and another country I can't remember now). Either way, definitely listen to this book, I can't overstate how happy I am to have found another book with an author that has the ability to draw me into their world for a little while. It is so rare to find that when the same books with the same tropes seem to be everywhere, but this one was unique and I can't wait to keep going with the next book.
