Noemi and Connor

I'll start by saying that this story was nothing like I was expecting, it may be about an arranged mafia marriage but in every way that matters, it's a beautiful love story. Noemi or Emi, Connor's name for her is the daughter of a monstrous Italian. A man who she knows arranged for her mother's murder, and who would kill her or her brother if he felt it was to his advantage. Whilst Connor is the much-loved adopted son of a member of the controlling family of the Irish Mafia.

When an alliance is needed between the two organisations to help against the encroaching Albanian Mob it's Connor who is asked to enter into an arranged marriage and choose one of the Italian ladies offered to cement the alliance. After looking at some photographs he chooses Noemi primarily because she's mute, she hasn't spoken since the car crash which killed her mother. Connor isn't looking for love and thinks it will be a bonus to have a silent wife even if she is as they say traumatised.

Noemi wants to escape her father's control and the mafia and if possible bring down her father without endangering her brother, but when she learns that he's arranged for her to marry Conner, that dream seems impossible. She knows she can't refuse without putting both her life and her brother's in danger, so hoping she’s not leaving the control of one monster for another she agrees. Connor quickly finds that Emi is much more than he expected, she's strong and brave and prepared to stand up for what she wants and I loved watching them get to know each other. Learn to trust each other and determine exactly what their relationship will be.

Connor is by his own admission, not a decent man, he's everything you expect from a Made Man, he's ruthless, ambitious and yet with Emi, he's gentle, loving and patient, their story is intense from start to finish it's full of angst, intrigue and undeniable chemistry and it's true to say that regardless of how their relationship started, these two were meant for each other. I absolutely loved this book and l can't wait to listen to the next book.

The narration of this book by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross is excellent each of them did a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life, showing their vulnerabilities and strengths and wringing every bit of emotion out of the story.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

My favorite kind of Mafia romance

This is my favorite kind of Mafia romance - there is a mystery of sorts to work through, the main male character falls for the female completely and becomes worried for her and protective of her.

Solid story

Admittedly, Mafia romance isn't my normal genre. That said, this was a solid book. It was recommended on audio by @ListenwithBritt on TikTok. I trust her book recs, because she likes plot and an emotional storyline with her spice. I really enjoyed the secondary characters. The Bryne family, in particular. Spicy and a little on the darker side, it was an enjoyable ride.

Romance

I haven’t read a book like this in a long time. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. A good author to pursue I think

Silent Vows

Conner and Noemi. I really enjoyed this book. I did the audiobook and followed along in the ebook. Noemi has been mute for 6 months now due to an “accident” that killed her mother. After the accident, her life had never been the same. Her father started treating her differently and she wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone or be alone with her brother. Conner was adopted into an Irish family when he was young, and it was recently brought to his attention that his birth mother is Italian and apart of the Italian mafia. His family come up with a plan to solidify a union between them by marrying an eligible daughter from the Italians. Connor chooses Noemi. Their “accidental” meet cute happened in a coffee shop. Noemi the silent, angry woman and Connor and the way he kept antagonizing her to “write” to him. He became obsessed with her.
The audiobook for this was so good. If you choose to read/listen I would do it because Kai and Wen did a really good narrating it. Also, Connor has filithy mouth so imagine that in Wen’s voice… Yes. PLEASE!
