Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference in Toxicity

How to Stop Being Toxic is a wonderful book on the way to build empathy and heal your relationships. It begins by introducing signs of toxicity and where we might find them in ourselves. Using concrete examples the author does an excellent job helping the reader to identify times in their lives when they might present toxic responses. Each chapter is well-written and includes several references to scientific research to support the information being set forth by the author.

At the end of each chapter, the author lists the key points for the reader to take away from the chapter.

The book moves through increasingly complex ideas, starting with self-awareness, cultivating empathy, managing emotions and going all the way nurturing healthy relationships and building resilience and coping strategies.

I personally found the information presented in the chapter on gratitude particularly impactful. Using research into gratitude the author demonstrates how important an attitude of gratitude is for eliminating toxicity in our personality.
