Publisher's summary

Manager for Hart’s Horse Rescue, Lucy Lenoir, finally feels she has a handle on life after having worked hard to leave her old one behind. So hard, there are times she almost forgets what she escaped. Memories which suddenly come flooding back when she catches a glimpse of a familiar horseman in town.

What’s worse, he’s in the company of the unlikely cowboy she’s only just beginning to trust.

High Mountain Tracker, Bo Rivera, tries hard never to repeat his mistakes. A huge one changed the course of his life and made him particularly cautious, especially around women. So much so, he almost passed up on the best thing to ever walk into his life; the compact, blonde ballbuster in need of a gentle hand.

However, the more he learns about her, the more he realizes a soft touch alone won’t keep her demons at bay. Those will need a firmer hand…to keep the gun steady.

You cannot go wrong with Freya Barker!

Freya Barker has quickly become one of my go-to authors. This book features Lucy and Bo, both who have baggage but work together to overcome it, The suspense is well written, the dialogue sharp and the characters well developed.

I appreciate that Ms. Barker features more mature characters in her books. The romance world doesn’t have enough of them!

The narrators did a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

This story will keep you on your toes

There is so much in this story to keep you on your toes. What starts out seemingly as a slow burn between a former special operator cowboy and an independent, hesitant rescue ranch woman turns cryptic as the past Lucy had thought she'd outrun turns her hard won peace upside down. Luckily, she had started letting Bo in so she has a fighter in her corner, but things turn sinister in the blink of an eye. With danger, action, suspense, a fiesty old woman to add humor, and a growing love, this story will keep your attention. The narration is terrific by Ada Sinclair and Jamal Roque as they bring the journey to life. I love how Freya's heroines are strong and independent and find the love of men who can appreciate this, although they may get exasperated at times at each other. Trigger warnings though as the tough subject of sexual assault and abuse is discussed in this book.

Bo and Lucy love story

Y’all Freya Barker nailed another story. This whole series is full of suspense, love, trust and more. This latest book High Impact is no different. It had me hooked from start to finish. The story of Lucy past had me so sad and angry but then happy she lived through it. Bo who is a hard worker, awesome tracker and great friend doesn’t give up on Lucy even when he thought she was younger and off limits. He wants to help anyone and everyone overcome their demons. The trip Freya took us on in this book was a wild ride and showed the strengths Lucy had to fight every step of the way. This book does has a few trigger warnings with kidnap and death for those that need to know this. Ada and Jamal narrated this story so beautifully and with so much emotion I felt all their pain, sorrow, happiness and love the entire book. Freya thanks for writing another awesome story. Well worth spending your credits for this entire series.

Another great story

Loved Lucy’s spirit from the first book in this series and Bo has always been a func character. I loved seeing these two get their chance for a happy ending. Lucy has had a hard life and keeps her background to herself and is never comfortable opening up. Her past is something she would like to never remember. Bo has always been attracted to Lucy but has been under the impression she is a lot younger then him. When he finally decides to pursue her he definitely has to take his time to get her to let him in. It was a great final story in this series. Loved it and the narrators did a great job with the characters.

Fantastic!

What a great way to end the series!
Lucy is such an amazing character. She’s such a strong woman with a complex history. Woven through all four books I knew when we got to her story it was going to be epic.
Bo is an enigma and Freya was brilliant in developing his relationship with Lucy.
As always, this story was filled with twists and turns and a climax I didn’t see coming. The narrators really made the story come to life.

Lucy and Beau finally act on their attraction

Beau and Lucy. You knew this day was coming when they finally acted on their attraction. But I never suspected the secrets she was keeping. Wow. Just wow. The things she lived through and got away from. Then to be found when she finally found a good home, job and man. This story is a little heartbreaking, but it was great to see how strong Lucy is and how she has survived and been a force to be reckoned with. I love seeing strong female characters and Lucy is one of the strongest I have seen in a long time.

Jamal Roque is a new narrator for me. I enjoyed listening to him as Beau. His twang made Beau a southern boy and more human. Ada Sinclair, as always, does a great job with Lucy. I think both narrators worked well together and would love to hear this duo more.

Suspenseful Love Story

I have greatly enjoyed all the books thus far in the High Mountain Trackers series. This book is no different.

I was looking forward to Bo breaking down Lucy's walls. What I was not looking forward to is finding out what built those walls. I was right to be wary of the bricks as they turned out to be huge fricking boulders. I am a happy-ending type of reader and once the rocks start turning into boulders I often fast forward through them. I will go back and listen to them in pieces as my heart allows. Let's just say I forwarded thru more than a few spots in this one before going back to those parts. Not sure why I can't listen to scary or bad stuff until I know that there is a happy or reasonably happy outcome. I'll ask my therapist.😉

With all that said, I love ❤️ a well deserved and hard-fought happy-ending. Freya Barker is one of the best at delivering strong female leading ladies and strong teddy bear leading men. Of course this book has all the good feels & some not-so-good feels.

Ada Sinclair delivers a strong performance as Lucy. You have no choice but to root for her. Jamal Roque was good as Bo but his performance at times sounded or was delivered a little immature if that makes sense. His best performance was the voice he gave to his mother. I could picture her and would not be surprised if he modeled her voice after a woman in his life.

worth a credit??? Of course.
Cannot wait for the next book in the series. Really hope it's available soon.

Enjoy!!!

My first by this author

This was an excellent book with many little twists and turns. I really enjoyed the ride this author took me on of this older couple. Both have had tough pasts. Hers is more awful and traumatic then his. Lucy sticks to herself and doesn’t get close to people and there’s a reason for that. She has a big heart and Bo has been attracted to her since the moment he saw her. He’s in it for the long haul and will keep doing little things for her to know he cares.

The narration took some getting used to. Both narrators are new for me. The male character took me a while to warm up to but half way through I was used to him.

I will be going to check other books out in this series.

Loved the suspense in here

Liked the story! Really got going later in the second half. I really didnt feel the connection between the two main characters. So that first kiss just seemed weird. I really liked the suspense that is in here. Kept me wondering what would happen. The narration is good on Ada Sinclair’s part. I did struggle a bit with Jamal Roque.
