Scarred and battered loner Zane Taylor has a gift with animals, particularly horses, but he's at a total loss when it comes to knowing how to handle women. Even though he's sworn off love, he can't seem to stay away from Bryn Callahan. He's known for being a horse whisperer, but can't seem to find his voice at all where Bryn is concerned.

Bryn Callahan has a heart for strays, but she is through trying to save damaged men. She vows to only date nice guys, which is a category that does not include Zane Taylor. Too bad he's the one who sets her pulse racing every time she's around him.

Starting a horse rescue ranch wasn't in Bryn's plan, but try telling that to the assembly of abandoned animals that have found their way to her doorstep. And when a chance encounter with a horse headed for slaughter brings Zane and Bryn together, they find themselves given a chance to save not just the horse, but maybe each other....

This book by Jennie Marts ( a new to me author) is delightful! This story is about Bryn, a big hearted waitress in a small town who saves a horse, and ends up running an animal rescue ranch. As it turns out, she rescues humans along with animals ‐- well, one human at least -- Zane. Zane is a cowboy and "horse whisperer", who's more at ease with animals than with people. He has a lot of "baggage" as well as physical scars from past abuse, past loss, and war. This book made me LOL, cry, and laugh some more. The 2 scenes where the ladies from Kansas visit the ranch with a "Tiny" request and where a nurse/old friend/angel dispenses some wisdom in a hospital chapel are my favorites. The narration was performed by Connor Crais and Vanessa Edwin, and was perfect! They brought all of the characters and emotions to life so beautifully. Greatly enjoyed it.

A thousand times exactly perfect! 🩷 Bryn & Zane

Really like the simplicity with a little drama. Easy to listen to and decent narration.

Just a simple and nice love story.

This book is written in a 3rd person POV… personally I’m not a fan of that POV so that annoyed me. The story line was good, I enjoyed the characters, and the narrators were great! There were many parts that had me rolling my eyes, the worst was the public declaration, I absolutely hate public declarations in fiction and otherwise. It was a good book but I won’t continue the series.

It was ok… !!!spoilers!!!

Wasn't prepared for the tears this one will surely spring on!
The animal rescue dynamic of this book will bring on some unexpected emotions about how some people can be s cruel to animals and the way the hero ties this in with his own story.

Very well written, very emotional.

AWESOME narration by Vanessa Edwin and Connor Crais

****Does include some elements of animal abuse, but not by the hero or heroine****

Be Prepared

I disliked almost everything about this book except the narration and the animals. The only reason I kept listening is because I thought Bryn and Zane would come together before the very last chapter in the book. This man wallowed in self hate until the very last chapter in the book and gave a ridiculously cheesy speech in front of almost the entire town. He literally did a complete turnaround in personality.

If you like an angsty book from almost beginning to end, you may like this book. I would have been fine if Bryn and Zane had some angst. And then Zane had worked much earlier in the book to fix himself and form a relationship with Bryn. Even if he still had moments where he felt unworthy, but not the nonstop unrelenting emotion he exhibited through every chapter but the last. I would have been ok if Zane had put his evil hateful father in his place one time. Or at least told him how he felt about the way he had treated him all of his life.

I had plans to read book 2, but the end of this book was so unbelievable, it exceeded any thoughts of even a fairy tale HEA. I can't go through this again. It was exhausting. I only picked up this book because I really enjoyed another series by this author.

Too Much Personal Dislike For Me
