Publisher's Summary

Bookstore owner Kerry Emerson finally seems to be back in control of her life. Her failure of a marriage firmly in her rearview mirror and her recent business expansion a success, she is in charge of her own future. One that is looking better than ever.

The sight of the tall man, with the familiar salt-and-pepper goatee pushing open the door of her store, sets her hair on end. He doesn't exactly bring good memories.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Damian Gomez is just looking for a decent cup of coffee when he walks into the small store offering books and brew. The pretty, feisty woman behind the counter is an unexpected surprise. Not at all unpleasant, especially since her finger that used to hold a wedding ring is now bare.

Her wild hair, boho style, and silvery grey eyes suddenly hold a lot of promise.

But when his office is pulled into an international investigation into the trafficking of rare books and manuscripts, the straight-laced SAC realizes he has to keep his distance from the woman who might well be involved.

Easier said than done, since fate seems determined to throw them together.

Great narrators!

Received code from author/publisher for review purposes.

I really enjoyed this story. The narrators were great! This was a great who done it mystery that had some scorching hot romantic scenes. The duel points of view kept the story interesting and I was hooked from the beginning. Looking forward to either reading or listening to the rest of the series.

Super series starter.

I love this book when reading it for the first time. the Narrator's do a superb job of bringing these characters to life.
Ms. Barker has a way of mixing suspense with many twist & turns and forever romance of mature characters who know what they want in life. No time for playing games.

Damien Can Definitely Keep My 6

Keeping 6 is one of my favorite books by Freya Barker and getting the opportunity to listen to Damien and Kerry's story firmly keeps it in my top reads/listens. Christian Fox is swoon worthy as Damien Gomez. His gruff no nonsense style is exactly how I imagined Damien in my head when I first read the book. Mr. Fox adds just the right amount of intensity to draw the listener into the book and keep them listening. He does a great job giving variety to the different characters, even the female Dutch task force liaison. Muffy Newtown's voice is again how I imagined Kerry's voice when I read. She has great vocal control and range of emotions making Kerry endearing and believable to the listener. This pair is perfect for this suspenseful story.
Keeping 6 is an intriguing start to what promises to be another great series by Freya Barker. FBI agent Damian Gomez was a supporting lawman in Like Arrows of the Cedar Tree series but one doesn't have to have read that book to know exactly is going on in Keeping 6. Reintroduced to the kidnapping victim from a previous case, Kerry and Damian's attraction is combustible. The suspense story is unique and the players varied. The new characters Ms. Barker introduces have strong personalities and I think will prove to be stellar main characters in future books.
Damian Gomez has always been in control of every facet of his life. When he is faced with Kerry and the danger she is in, he realizes that maybe rules and control aren't the only way to live. Kerry has fought tooth and nail to gain independence from an ex who sought to belittle her. Since leaving him she has struggled to be in control and be independent. When danger threatens her well-ordered life and throws her and Agent Gomez together, sparks fly and control follows.
This story has it all: witty banter, strong characters, amusing family members, intrigue, passion and above all else love. I can't wait for the next installment of the Rock Point series.

Really enjoyed!!

Narrators: Christian Fox and Muffy Newtown. Both these narrators are a favorite of mine and I think they did a fantastic job of bringing this book to life. I highly recommend the audiobook!

Kerry is a no-nonsense and independent woman. She's 2 years fresh off a bad marriage and has learned that she can only depend on herself. She's got a bit of a chip on her shoulders when her and Damian meet again 2 years later but some of the was due to their previous encounter.

Damian is a bit of a player. His job is more important than a relationship but it's not in your face in this book. He meets up with Kerry and while it is rocky at first, he's recognizes something special in her.

These two met 2 years prior when Damian is one of the agents that rescued Kerry from a kidnapping. While he recognized his attraction at the time, she was married and off limits. This has him focusing more on his job than her as a victim. When he walks into her book store 2 years later, Kerry is a little less inviting in her greeting due to that experience.

As you can see, this meant for a rocky beginning for this main couple. What I liked was that it was enough to be believable but not over the top to make it annoying. I enjoy reading about older couples, 40's in this case, due to more mature issues in a storyline and not unnecessary drama.

The new case that has these two reconnecting was interesting and made for an easy read. I also liked the addition of Damian's family. They brought entertainment to this couples lives as Kerry is once again in danger. Overall, a really good read.

Loved it so much more the second time around!

I read this book a few years ago and loved it so I was so excited to get the opportunity to listen to the audio version. The narrators Christian Fox and Muffy Newtown were absolutely fantastic!
Both did such an amazing job really bringing these great characters to life. I honestly feel like I enjoyed this story so much more being read to me!

I am a huge fan of the small town setting with a hot law enforcement officer, a sassy heroine with an interesting plot and this one had all that.

FBI Special Agent Damian Gomez was a great hero of this book. He was the agent who rescues Kerry two years prior, unfortunately he did not leave a positive impression and this sort of carries into the present. When he first sees Kerry, even bruised and bloody, he felt a connection with her but unfortunately the wedding ring on her finger deters him from acting on his attraction. Fast forward two years, he is given another chance when he happens to pop in for coffee and lo and behold there she is behind the counter. At first he tries to ignore his feelings toward Kerry, but this all changes when her life is put in danger.

Kerry Emerson is a sassy, strong and business savvy heroine of this story. She is a successful bookshop owner who dabbles in buying and selling rare books. She has moved on from a failed marriage and is happy with the life she has now, even though she does feel lonely.

The suspense plot was pretty interesting. Kerry becomes involved in a criminal investigation related to stolen rare books. Her bookstore is broken into and her life was put in danger in a couple of instances. Damian’s protective instinct is kicked into high gear. The storyline keeps you guessing throughout the book on who the “baddie “ is, what is in that missing box and how these two headstrong characters will reach their HEA.

All in all, this was a great book, I am looking forward to listening to more from Freya Barker.

Kerry and Damian - yes please

The author has the ability of inviting me in her world and making it so easy to stay for a while. This story is no different, a balanced mix of suspense and romance, fast paced all the way thru. Damian’s family is hilarious, enjoyed seeing their close-knit relationship. Loved the fact that Kerry and Damian are mature characters that I can relate to, their relationship is fast developing but feels real. The other thing I liked is that I didn’t have a clue who the main bad guy was until almost the end, so had me turning the pages to find clues. It ends with a HFN which is satisfying. Looking forward to listen to the next books in the series.
Listening to the amazing voices of Ms. Newton and Mr. Fox was so much better than the voices I imagined when I read it years ago. Great choices. Ms. Barker! I really enjoyed their performance, Ms. Newton's versatile voice, she does emotions and male voices with perfection; the sexy voice of Mr. Fox is oh so yummy and he gave all characters really great voices, male and female.
