Publisher's summary

Do you have back, neck, or shoulder pain that keeps recurring or won't go away? Do you have to "baby" your back? Does back pain keep you from living a full life? If so, you may be suffering from TMS - (Tension Myositis Syndrome) - and you don't have to take it anymore!

Dr. John E. Sarno, author of the revolutionary book Mind Over Back Pain, is a medical pioneer whose program has helped patients overcome their back conditions- without drugs or dangerous surgery. Now, using his latest research into TMS, Dr. Sarno goes one step further. After identifying stress and other psychological factors in back pain, he demonstrates how many of his patients have then gone on to heal themselves without exercise or other physical therapy.

Discover why self-motivated and successful people are prone to TMS, how anxiety and repressed anger trigger muscle spasms, how people "train themselves" to experience back pain, and how you may get relief from back pain within two to six weeks by recognizing TMS and its causes.

Not the whole puzzle, but ahead of its' time

Dr. Sarno believes most ailments are symptoms of a condition called Tension M(something) syndrome, TMS, a condition caused by unacknowledged emotions, namely - rage. He believes the cure is in the knowledge of this fact, which he makes a great case for. We'll see.

Sarno is the best at Sarno

Love this audiobook and have always felt Sarno gets his ideas across best when he is speaking them, the veracity of his experience just comes through so strongly.

Would you listen to Healing Back Pain again? Why?

The information is helpful with understanding the behavior of the unconscious mind and how it can cause pain.

A concept worthy of consideration.

Interesting concept. A little disconcerting regarding how dismissive the doctor is regarding anything anything anything that seems to be a potential caveat or contradiction to his theory. Maybe he's right? But, it would have been nice to hear more balanced discussion on those seeming caveats,, and reviews or supports from other credible doctors as to whether & why or why not they support his theory and his easy dismissal of all other views and diagnoses.
Addotionally, it's not been my experience that it is easy to retrain one's brain. Some discussion on dealing with immediate pains whilst trying to get a grip on one's brain, conflicting education/experience, and emotions would be helpful. Separately, more research and support via the science behind how this actually comes about in the body would be an enlightening addition once available.
Still a decent rating because it's an interesting concept from a doc with alot of years experience -- so worthy of consideration.

A very thought provoking book.

I always suspected a connection between mind and body. This book provides a frame work to better understand how it works. I found many of the example I could relate to and it greatly enhanced my understanding of how it works and how the connection manifests in pain. While I have just finished listening to the book and not been able to put in practice his theory it has certainly motivated me to put aside my fears and motivated me to action.

Interesting concept

Good concept. Thoroughly explains the theory, but now i want to learn more about the psychotherapeutic approach. He lightly touches upon it and that it helps cure hundreds of patients, but does not give detail in treatment.
